Just wanted to say thank you. I just did a run of Aurum Vale (pre-50 so no soil) and your tips abouts aether guage and swiftcast addlo really pulled me through. I got my first triple commendation for it and it's all thanks to you ^^
I have been playing scholar for a while, but I think its neat to explore how other people use the kit(s), and take what they do and apply it to your playstyle to help you be a more rounded player. So, that's what I did! Thanks for the perspective :)
Tank being unpredictable is an understatement. We got a tank that had less hp than everyone else in the party and would randomly lose 50% hp on anything in one global. Needless to say I had to completely stop doing damage to make sure he didn't die at the last boss in the lv 32 dungeon. The boss took longer than it should have, but the DPS told the tank he needed to update his gear and everyone went on their merry way.
you think that's bad... I was doing a lvl 27 dungeon and my tank somehow got in with lvl 1 gear... could barely keep up with the healing on 1 mob and he kept pulling more then 1 group of mobs
Amazing tips man! I’ve learned so much in such a short time, I have to say this is the best scholar guide Ive seen thus far. Congrats on 100 subs, here is one more :)
This is a very nice break from most other ffxiv channels with highly egotistical narrators. Healing being unpredictable and requiring a dynamic response is not something I've heard A SINGLE ONE of them say. I believe this is because they are mostly follower types (i.e. they can only listen and learn); they are not theory creators. It's nice to have found a free and critical thinker. Hope you make more videos.
Nice video and good tips. Still learning my Scholar at level 51, so all tips are welcome and needed :-) Only issue I have (coming from WoW) is my keyboard/hud setup, but that will come in time.
@@foxheals 150 subs! The channel is growing like a weed! Ideas for future videos: WHM and AST versions of your SCH guides... thoughts about SGE and how it will rock the healing scene?
Picked up scholar a few days ago, and coming off of playing mostly AST and starting with WHM, SCH definitely feels super different! So grateful for this succinct, practical video with the focus on concepts!I also really appreciated the video you made making comparisons between the three (at the time) healers-really validated my own thoughts! Would be curious to hear your thoughts on SGE now as well :) Thanks again for the video! Will be saving this one.
This is the ONE video I've wanted to see! Returning player here and I was nervous to play scholar again. This is a great refresher for people. Great videos 🤌🏾
As someone who's been a scholar main since 2.0 back when you had attribute points to distribute and sch/smn shared attribute points so you had to use a hym to reset skill points depending which you were gonna play, back when people would refuse to run with you or kick you for being a scholar cause people didn't know how to play it. This has been a real treat to see, though not much j got value out of it as I tend to do most of this anyway. It was definitely well thought out and super happy to see some scholar representation out there!
Thanks trickster. 👍👍👍 i remember that! I was like lvl 15, being asked where I wanted to place points, and I had nooo idea 😆 I really wished I kept playing back then, but I was also playing WOW at the time. BC ya ultimately this is a better game.
Great video. Im learning a lot from them. Keep it up! I got a question on what to prioritize healing lower level dungeons as im just starting to learn scholar.
Thanks Graham! I assume u mean like below lvl 40? I can explain more in my discord (since I actually get notifications there). But for now just focus on not stacking adliqium shields (i.e. heal with physic every other time if u must). Spend lustrates if u have that yet, and know that ur dot is only worth it if it's on the enemy for about 15 seconds (i.e. enemy dies before that, ruin is better)
Just got my SHB Scholar relic! My build is more focused on Critical Hit & Determination rest in Spell Speed! I wanted to to buid Crit + DHR for more damage but then i was like I'm a healer therefore i should focused on healing lol just watched your guide & it's amazing i rarely find myself using Fey Illumination & Emergency Tactics tbh.
I'm a summoner main but have always struggled with SCH, which is frustrating since I have a max-level class I can't play. Picked up SGE this expansion and learned how to play it and realized if I can play SGE, I should be able to play SCH as well. Your tip of SC+Adlo is a game changer for me. I always tried the deploy trick but half the time I messed up and tried to deploy a shield that was already gone or just took too long to do it and let the tank die.
Hey! Glad my video helped 😁 It's funny because I'm the opposite, I find summoner hard. So many buttons that change with what phase ur in. Idk how it is now tho.
@@foxheals Heh - I understand completely. I had a very hard time learning ShB SMN but I just forced myself to learn it and after a while it became just pure muscle memory (which tbh, is a lot of what I think you need to have to be a good healer -- you can't be searching for your spells when people are dying!). New SMN is completely different -- very straightforward and more like a ranged dps because of all the instant casts.
yw. you dont think so? :P thats good for me lol. i really respect the balance discord guide (indomitable), its crazy detailed. so im trying to find my own place by talking about gameplay tips for ppl to focus on.
Watching this. It feels like i've been doing something righ at least, lol. I stay using Excog on tanks during the initial pulls of dungeons. Into disspiation. Not a 9 aether setup, but six usually does the trick. If need be? Swift-cast shield tops them off well.
if ur not going huge, 6 is fine. but prioritize getting ur 6 through just the aetherflow ability, then when the enemies are almost dead u can kill ur faerie. then when ur running to next pull faerie is on its way back. but there's more than 1 way of doing things, and sounds like you have the right idea.
Thank you for this. I just came back to playing again and wasn’t feeling up to playing my scholar and switched over to WHM. I was just curious would you be swapping over to Sage when endwalker comes out or sticking to scholar?
yo dexstarslab. oh right on. w/e u play hope ur having fun with it. whichever one turns out to be more fun, and idk how sage will play. i plan on playing both and making videos for both. but ill probably main whichever one has the least amound of healing and most midigation. i basically want to play a green tank xD
Ya I love this preset 🙂. It's yukifairyland. But I've also enabled some setting that draws outline like in everything. It's like one of the first 4 options if you edit the preset.
@@foxheals thanks! I’ll try to find it once I get home. Also, thanks for the guide. I feel the least confident on SCH out of all the healers lol, so this guide was helpful.
As a newer SCH, can I request a Stone Vigil SCH guide? It syncs to pre-Aetherflow (43) and is super frustrating to run. Big pulls tend to end dangerously close or very poorly for me. Every dungeon before SV wasn't that difficult with big pulls, even Cutter's Cry was alright. Will I just have to suffer through it, panic-cycling and OOM'ing the entire way?
thats a good idea for a video. infact ive been brainstorming how to make a whole new series of guides and what to say in them. starting from the basics for people at lvl 30. so if u have anything u with u knew when just unlocking SCH lmk! as for early stuff, ya it can be a little annoying. i also get low on mana but not to the point of stuggling (ofc i can if my tank makes me struggle xD) A - make sure ur super diligent on lucid dreaming B - try to recover mana during bosses. avoid adlo here. C - and most importantly. u dont have art-of-war yet so ur dmg is not gonna speed the run up by 20%. just apply dots and be content to cast physic a few times in a row. adlo is expensive, so if ur almost exlusively using it to heal then ur gonna go OOM giga fast. hope that helps, and ya let me know if there was anything u with u knew about the class when u started.
Ok, but what when you don't have enough time to build aetherflow for a pull? Like the first pull from Bardam's Mettle, where you don't have the option to have 3 aetherflow build when it starts? I tend to usually use my aetherflow in the first pull of the dungeon and dissipate the fairy as the last mob is dying so i can get a full aetherflow gauge + aetherflow off cooldown in the next pull, but on the first pull that's very much impossible. And some dungeons have some very intense first pulls, like Ala Mhigo or Bardam's Mettle.
I think the main idea is that u don't have to feel pressured to waste aetherflow inorder to keep the cooldown rolling (like we are trained to do so often in this game). Also u should NOT apply this idea to raids or anything. It only applies to dungeons bc if u enable the tank can pull faster, that is more valuable than ur optimal CD usage
I am! 😃 At the moment of recording this I was using the preset Yukifaerylandgameplay I think its called. There's also a setting I enabled that draw outlines on everything (I forget the setting name, but was the 3rd checkbox)
Only ever played wow and mained holy priest. Scholar seems like disc priest which was fun in pvp but less viable in raids and white mage seems like holy priest from wow. I just started playing arcanist to lvl 30 so I'm very new but does my comparison hold merit? If so I may enjoy white mage more as a holy priest main.
Nice! I mained disc priest when I played wow. I would say to a certain extent, sch has to predict dmg much like a disc in raids. Everything is way more balanced in This game tho, so play w/e u find fun. Also I made a healer tier list video comparing them all. 😁 Also note that healing in this game feels quite different. It's less about healing ur brains out and rather finding ways to be more efficient for the sake of dmg.
I've been leaning towards scholar as my healer class.. watching your videos has definitively made up my mind to play it. I want challenging, dynamic, gameplay. I'm excited to level this class and learn it as a secondary to my tank class.
If u have 3 on ur Guage, and u have aetherflow and dissapapation off CD, u can use 9 aetherflow abilities rapidly. It's not actually 9 on the Guage but rather just able to refill it twice.
Basically you do not want to use ur aetherflow ability on CD (like many ppl suggest). It's best to save ur aetherflow stacks + aetherflow ability for when it's needed (if u doing fat pulls)
Hi Terry. No, only normal enemies unfortunately. If you notice an enemy attacking one of the DPS players, you can sleep that enemy (but that enemy wakes up if it gets hit)
