I still have no idea what the pads do, though that's probably cause I haven't been in a group that's wiped on it yet. I just try to get in every circle that's not yellow tbh.
@@ShadMuffin if we're talking about the same pads (in the eye dude); if you happen to get the debuff doom from him, stepping on the pads removes doom for you :)
Yes, it's basically the same as it is in one of the early dungeons. Temple of Qarn, maybe? But I'd assume people also steamrolled through that dungeon by just frantically running around on every tile that's glowing
Never ever tell a sprout a terminology of the game. Use simple words like the pink/purple eye and then turn around. 90% of sprouts won't know what mortal gaze is.
And if you must drop a good hint at the beginning, please spell the word properly. Three out of four of us kept looking for "the Nail". Apparently we should have been looking for "The Tail". After two wipes we three just kind of figured it out. Even though the experienced person repeated "the Nail" at us again lol lol. And when I said "Tail! duh!" they may have thought I was being snarky at them, but no. Just figuring out for the first time that enemies are listed on the left of my HUD and Hey it said TAIL arrgghh...if only I'd looked two wipes ago, but it's a download data dump in the early daze. whoever the hint giver was, I wasn't snarking at you. Just face palming myself. When you know better, you do better.
tbh I feel like more sprouts would survive the gaze if the game actually taught them the stuff like gaze and stack markers. Instead they kind of just sneak them in a dungeon or 2 and usually its still brute force-able... until its not and the sprout has no idea why because they never actually learned the mechanic so much as face tanked it.
@@Sniper0502this Like I would've never have known about this eye thingy if I didn't watch a guide beforehand lol And the eye mechanic, I didn't even know about this and was always confused when I turned into a stone when others didn't in haukke manor... I only figured it iut after going through it couple of times through duty roulette
@@LowIntSpecimen The last fight of Crystal Tower teaches you to stack stack markers, for the levitate. I didn't learn that you're never again supposed to do that until the first stormblood alliance raid... Many a brave warrior of light got bonked to teach me this lesson.
When I fought Cerberus, I was told to destroy the adds...and I thought the gastric balls were adds you had to destroy...we wiped twice before someone was like "What chuckle keeps destroying the gastric balls??" and I was just... *sweats profusely*
People really overestimate how self-explanatory a mechanic is in dungeons they have been in plenty of times. Nothing about Cerberus is that obvious, maybe apart from "don't stand in front of him", which is just a general good advice for non-tanks in this game. And if there is any help, people often just write "A=Adds, B=Belly, C=Chains". Like.. how is this supposed to tell anyone anything who doesn't know about this already?
To be fair, the Crystal Tower raids go from "ok there's that insta wipe ancient flare and meteors, but nothing else is really dangerous" to "there's literally nothing you need to do here but tank and spank and maybe not get killed by curtain call" to "HERE'S SOME ACTUAL MECHANICS BITCHES, YOU BETTER KNOW THEM ELSE YOU'RE DEAD AND THE RAID WIPES" So it's little wonder this place is much harder on sprouts, especially if they make up a good portion of the raid
Especially in current year where the first two have been nerfed so much that the mechanics are kinda pointless now which puts you in a false sense of security when Raid 3 hits with all these mechanics in full force. I think it depends on the party explaining to sprouts what to do for specific bosses
I have replayed world of darkness soo many times just to learn that one with the damn eyeball and I still die. I look away and everything. I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t think I’ll ever figure it out. the only boss I struggle with.
@@Squeaxx Its a lot going on in that fight. The big one is looking away from mortal gaze, theres also the platform lighting up with two different colors that you have to alternate standing on, theres the lamp things(I dont remember what theyre called) that you have to dps and i think an aoe called lvl 150 death or something you have to run out of. So its a lot to remember lol.
If you see a sprout in a raid or a dungeon with tricky mechanics please take the 2 mins to give a quick rundown. I am still a sprout but I study what I'm getting into before I get into it. The sad thing is that I, as being a first time in the event myself, am typically the only one to explain to the other sprouts what is going on or going to happen. ☹️
It helps to ask for tips as well. Just because you are a sprout, doesn't mean we know you don't know what you're doing. If you ask then people will probably provide.
Excluding harder modes of normal content why on earth would you spoil your first time by watching other players complete the content first? Duty roulette rewards are hefty for a reason, we're helping fresh players. If we're after a somewhat guaranteed clear then we should queue as a pre-made or use party finder. It is a shame you have felt the need to research content before doing it therefore missing out on a real first time experience.
@@pasteldreams5413 sadly in my experience that is not the case and the most constructive piece of advice I get is 'don't die'. I do try and look up things before hand but sometimes I die to something I cannot fathom what it was and I will probably never know XD
@@lullylew9083 first time experience of what exactly? Messing up an encounter and possibly wiping the raid or being a massive burden to the healers? Any small pleasure to be had of "learning" something blindly does not outweigh wasting the time of 3+ people.
@@Karthunk By all means give new players a basic run down on a strat when you reach a boss but I wouldn't make them watch a video. That way they get most of the first time experience. You're not wrong, Karthunk we just have slightly differing perspectives and if we're both honest the game tailors to either with the use of party finder and duty roulette filters.
The moment we had the influx of new players begin, my gut said 'make CT macros, or else'. And for once, I listened to my gut feeling, and made macros for all the important things. Holy crap they have saved us so many times skdjghsdkjghskd
ya i started doing that as i got tired of wipeing on stupid crap in game. i wont blam new players 100% of the time but if some one explations it to you and you still die i have no simtheny for you.
as a sprout, this was the dungeon that made me stop being a tank and switched to a dps (started out as a GLD/PLD and now I'm a DRG), it was my first time running this dungeon blind and I made mistakes and panics a lot, I got grilled afterwards by many other players from the other alliance, thus I dropped my sword and shield in exchange for a pole arms
I did the same thing. I didn't do this dungeon, but another one, I kept dying from Doom, without understanding. One person finally told me what to do and seemed a little upset. I felt so embarrassed, I logged out and didn't play for a few days. Then I picked up BLM. I got to level 23 before I went back to my WAR. Most people are super helpful and now I watch short dungeon guides to help.
@@amberlovely1 When i started playing, I was a war too. FF was my first 3D online game. Up til FF i only played like..rpgmaker pixel games and card games. I was very confused cuz I found it hard to even walk, let alone tank XD A few times I got some very aggressive dps and one of my 'friends' told me that i should try playing a dps instead because he didn't think i could tank. I was feeling very sad and finally decided to try another class. I looked at other classes and thought 'hah maybe gladiator would be good?'. I picked it up, leveled it to 20 and then realized it was a tank too. Now I'm doing newest savage raids as warrior 8) I'd say it was destiny.
Im sprout myself, sometimes when i die because some mechanics of bosses witch i dont know feel bad for my team and thinking dam prob they hate me, but its silent in chat and they are ok and tell how it works, im surprised since in wow you will get kicked, bashed, shouted, glad i started ffxiv not coming to wow back for sure.
Don't feel bad; as you've seen, most of the time people will be understanding and be helpful towards you if you communicate that you're new beforehand. Glad you're enjoying the game!
Well i have been playing for about 4 month and now on stormblood msq. Lets just say that i already experience a lot of game mechanic. But when i back into dungeon level 35 dungeon as a tank idk that the bee can instant kill you if you not kill it first. My point is even though you already have a lot of experience you may miss one or two in this game and sometime make a mistake.but good thing is, the community here are willing to tell you what you must to do and usually a lot of them are pretty chill.
to get yelled at or kicked you need to do something so wrong multiple times without reading chat that it actually looks like griefing, like being an off tank and constantly provoke the boss and make him face the group over multiple boss fights. Of course if people are in discord some will probably talk shit there but it rarely makes its way into group chat, the way roulettes are designed and the sprout symbol above new players heads, people are used to new players unlike wow
@@andrevieri1804 you can stun the bee btw when they cast Final Sting. XD Also you can stun the raid Aoe of the first boss. You need a good timing and you can do only one stun before the next AoE but if you have a melee in party, basically you can avoid to get doom. I learn this form a sprout, after 3k of hours btw. XD
Its easy to do stuff when you playing FF for years, but not that easy after 1 or 2 months ingame (at this time players enjoyng whole story stuff and dont actually focus on learning mechanics) Remember one thing, you were sprout too back in the day! And i bet you have also learned to avoid stuff and learned all bosses mechanics. So dont expect new players to know and learn everything in few days.
True, had a pretty bad run of the Orbonne Monastery where one alliance was full of newer players. Alliance B I think, and Alliance C would insult and tell them to leave if any of them died.
@@DogInatutu i recently got into a dungeon as a new player myself, one guy asked me to leave because I was garbage (not too far from those exact words) and couldn't learn mechanics after 5 wipes. He was immediately votekicked by the rest of my party. It felt good I was just getting massive lag spikes that didn't make it easy for me to dodge aoe's that day
Last time I was in World of Darkness, we spent about an hour in the place. Wiped on the first eyeball boss 5x and every boss after that we wiped at least once. We had over 10 people brand new to the instance. It was painful but everyone stuck it out and pushed through to the end.
if it was around 2 months ago then i think we were at the same instance because that was exactly what happened to me that time and sorry i was one of the new sprouts lol very sorry about that
The sound of Feint Particle Beam thumping down is just Cloud of Darkness’ Timbs stomping on some plants Also the number of times I’ve seen people get the order of steps wrong to get in Cerberus’ belly is definitely more than 1
my last run a guy said it was going really smoothly and it was but once we got to the last boss it all went downhill, and someone was like "you just had to say that"
It’s funny watching and hearing jaded “veteran” players get mad at a video game. As a “veteran” player in other games I’m always happy to see new players. I help them out when I can and understand there will be failures/wipes. Ffxiv has had a surge of new players because of another mmorpg mass exodus. It’s actually a good thing, the game won’t wither and die or have jaded “veteran” players only. That would be boring, life is about dealing with whatever comes your way. If you work or attend school things aren’t always easy, you need to adapt and move on. We were all new once…
Big shoutout to the FFXIV community for not getting mad at me when I am a total scrub at a mechanic or boss and fail. For real. Y'all are the true heroes. I def wouldn't get this level of care in WoW
that eyeball has caused many players agony and confusion. I'll never forget the sheer panic everyone felt as soon as they saw that doom buff and me as the healer felt the pain of throwing all my mp away to raising them
I had no idea the eyeball icon even meant anything, I thought it was just a cool visual effect. Took 2 wipes and a 5 min explanation for me to realize T_T
@@Murasame13 Yea I think it takes a while to figure it out honestly. That raid was the first time I payed close attention to buffs, so at least it taught me that those can be super important too XD
I love how you explain the mechanics of the first boss after you defeated him. Not. As many already said - just explain it with some simple words. We were all sprouts once before. So don't sigh and encourage them instead because you know the mechanics - they don't.
I've legitimately never seen so many dooms in one party on the first boss and.. a wipe to the last one. like wow that's a lot of people who don't know what they're doing! can't blame them too much of course, especially when they're new, but.. impressive.
ya it funny when it does happne the first week in july i had people sping that boss around and killing th whole raid or i would see half the raid get doom and just die makes it hard to rez 7 people of the party when you are the only one alive
With certain mechanics its totally understandable, its pretty easy to read most mechanics and kinda get a quick understanding but there are a few that are just wtf confusing if you dont read up on it even in the ez raids lol.
Reminds me of a run i had saved where i was the sole survivor of that alliance as a bard. Doom got 6 and the half/half room got the other one right after.
Had a lot of sprouts in recent higher level raids, and I'm not a dedicated raider. I know when to move, but I don't know attacks by name. It's interesting watching the more experienced raiders quitting after one or two wipes. We get through it most of the time, and I've found a little humor and optimism goes a long way to help everyone keep going.
This is WHY, people who calls themselves Veterans, should always give a heads up to these little sprouts. Trust me, I've been in bad raids and everytime we wiped and explained the mechanics after, the run went smoother. So yeh, it's easy to laugh and point out at the sprouts though but people have to keep in mind that players all learn at the different rate.
Just a note for uploading content of people displaying questionable performance, you might want to set your game so that it changes the way player names are displayed so no one can say you are naming and shaming. Fun video btw.
Yeah I've considered it, not necessarily to make me look less of a bully but to protect the people showcased from undue harassment. For the record: I don't condone that sort of thing. Only I'm allowed to poke fun at people in my videos.
Personally i don't see the pains in just repeating a dungeon.. it makes it more enjoyable to see how a lack of organization can actually wipe 3 alliance groups. Imagine the people malding over one instance yikes.
One absolute vegetable of a healer made 4 Mentors leave EX Titane one after the other. No matter how many times we explained to NOT stand in landslide he was yeeted off at the first or second every single time.
Normal Content. Among other reasons we are rewarded heavily for duty roulette because we will be partied with new players to help them clear content and to keep all content somewhat current. I would never deprive a new player of their first time experiencing a raid or dungeon by expecting them to watch other people play it on youtube or something first. Alas it can be frustrating when people aren't listening to advice and guidance during the run.
I spent no joke 80 mins in the last EW dungeon, explaining the mechanics all the way and trying to keep the morale high. I had a fun time despite it all but gotta admit it stung I didn't get a single recommendation..........
@@mielikin me, the MT twice i covered a reaper who kept dying to mechanics had to use tank LB3 just to save the party from one mechanic *no commends* come on man, there were 7 other people
_half the party dying, cats Stone repeatedly_ Me too, man. Me too. It's that point where you're like, I don't know what to do, but I gotta cast something. Why? _Just gotta._
The first thing i do as a sprout whenever i get into a dungeon is mention that is my first time there, and usually people will explain strats or i do my runs with a veteran friend who got me into the game in the first place. Surprisingly my crystal tower runs went very well (with the exception of one time where people forgot to chain the dog) and people were very helpfull.
my WoD run as a sprout: 1st time: I got carried hard. Didn't know what to do aside from some vague don'ts and dos. 2nd time: took more time since more than half were sprouts and were new but luckily there was someone that gave detailed instructions on what to do for each of the bosses. Also f*ck that eye. 3rd time and onward: I am doing it to admire CoD boobas
Everyday I realize that I've missed so many mechanics that were happening and I just didn't realize. I was always confused by the cloud of darkness fight since it seemed like it never did much attacking besides the big lazer. Only now do I realize in the dozens of times I've done this raid I have never been targeted by feint particle beam and had no clue it existed. I thank my teammates for their sacrifice.
I just look up a guide on what to do before the fight. Being a sprout white mage as well, staying alive and not messing up the mechanics for everyone is my main goal.
When you get in there as tank and the only thing the other tanks are able to do is provoke the living s*** out of the eye. You know that it's going to be fun -.-
Honestly if people would just say what to do instead of expecting a new player to know what to do (what kind of logic is that) then these problems would drastically decrease
In this game if you state that it's your first time most people are gonna explain the mechanics to you It's up to you obviously, but I feel like discovering a fight as you step in for the first time is an amazing feeling - even if I end up dying because I failed a mechanic
@@sheeeeeeeesh7412 I prefer learning as I go instead of watching a video because it kinda ruins the experience in my opinion. Plus I always tell my party it's my first time and they always clear anything up if necessary.

@@ishisshusisusjki8274 Ugh. I hate how every time I go into a dungeon, I forget to turn my stance on, lmao! I'm starting to get the hang of it now, but it can be frustrating. @@amberlovely1 yeah same! been trying to do dungeons without looking at video guides so I can get used to it tho when it's dungeons, and just warn that I'm new
I never have issues as a healer here but Aurum Vale has seen many deaths due to tanks. The worst one was a tank who pulled the entire starting room into the boss room and also engaged the boss... needless to say we all died. I was Sage with a surgeon glam. I said "DAMNIT JIM IM A DOCTOR NOT A PHYSICIST" and the tank, he just 'courtesously bowed' lol
Last night was my first time through WoD , and I'm honestly surprised I dodged all Dooms my first time. No wipes either, although there were only 3 of us newbies (I think)
As both a Tank and Healer main. . . I have no words, but never give up dear sprouts. Someday you will be able to clear a savage raid or maybe get an Alexander weapon then show off.
I've never even seen some of those mechanics in action. The game's more exciting when you aren't surrounded by 40 people that know how to run the raid like clockwork.
It's funny how having ACT is against ToS because they think it will lead to bullying when you can track another's performance, but you're allowed to record someone else's gameplay and post it to youtube for kicks.
I swear as dps in a ct raid I literally will find the nearest healer in my party and literally glue myself to them. If they go to a specific position, I make sure to shadow them to that same position, if they attack an add I attack the same add, if they DONT then I DONT. The best people imo are those who have to have way more awareness then other classes
LMAO! This is probably one of the funniest things I've seen in weeks! And the opening commentary at the start had me laughing like a Jackal. I'm definitely going to have to check out more now. Thank you so much!
sprout here, by this point (level 58 black mage) i've learned every mechanic just by simply asking my friends "anything i should know about" when i first got into the game. granted all they told me was "dont stand in the orange areas" but i figured out everything else fast enough. level 40-ish dungeon shows how doom works, you figure out the eye mechanic simply in the open world, aoe's are simple enough. stack markers literally point at what you should do... c'mon.
Ah yes cloud of darkness, the boss where I play the the game "guess how many sprouts will be deleted by chasing lasers" you get bonus points if its more then the amount of times the spell is cast.
Just started playing FFXIV on Jan 2022. And as a WHM sprout, watching this video is SCARING THE FUCK OUT OF ME! LoL My anxiety is sky high and I'm just watching a video!
I’m still a sprout but I like playing healer so I always make sure to look up trials/dungeons I’m going to for the first time so I don’t mess up mechanics and cause a wipe. Once had another sprout, a ranged DPS, complain that us healers weren’t healing him so he died twice during the MSQ leviathan fight. The more experienced of you can probably already tell what’s wrong here, but for everyone else: ranged dps can only attack the tail and magic dps can only attack the head or your damage gets reflected back and eventually kills you. An honest mistake if you don’t know the mechanics, but if you specifically keep dying and no one else maybe ask if there is a mechanic you’re missing before you complain to the healers.
As a proud samurai sprout I'm so anxious everytime I do a new duty for the first time, I can't imagine how tank sprouts do new dungeons. (would be neat if the game explained you mechanics you've died to at least once)
I may flail at the giant eye, don't know my ABC's of cerbi, and I didn't know why I got bolted recently against Cloud, but at least I have never wiped in that place. I now see why people *love* that raid, and glad every time I do go in, I learn a little more.
Thought I found a new video, only to see I was already here, and have I improved. So long as I don't got to deal with the flare, Angra is a speed-bump. Pick your poison of the proper Adds / Belly / Chains or Always Be Chewed, though don't let my blind a** take the chains. As for Cloud, just pay attention and if you see little arrows by your feet, sprint or get bolted.
I just did my first world of darkness run and wow it kept me in my toes a lot. I did watch a youtube guide about the mechanics before hand since I was a warrior and I unknowingly became the main tank of the entire raid so had a lot of pressure (5 headed dragon was relaxing since I just had to dodge 1 attack while the rest had to deal with his mechanics).
This experience is but the first circle of hell. The next 7 are the Party Finder experience. And finally in the center of hell we have the Mentor Roulette. For the truly masochistic individuals. The meower was the best because he’s the role player. All RP’s have good amount of experience with the game. At least in my extensive experience.
You're already better than most healers in level 80 content. You actually cast Esuna instead of Glare (Stone II in this case) when a condition exists, rather than let 30+ seconds of a condition persist.
I did WoD blind the first time, insisted by my FC. It was not fun for me. So I made some macros telling the main mechanics. Not all of them, but most of the big ones like how avoid or dispell the Doom. We tend to do pretty well in my raids with a bit of extra guidance :D
i find world of darkness tend to be a coin flip, where either everything runs super smoothly no issues or theres a herculean struggle to not fuck up. i also find that tends to revolve around how well a tank copes with a raid, which is why i tend to avoid playing tank in raids and just stick to dps or healer.
PSA to all sprouts try to do alliance raids as a dps if possible on your first go for reduced responsibility and especially in later expansions WATCH A GUIDE. its a bit of a drag but bosses dont always give sufficient context to keep you alive so at least knowing why you are dying is massively helpful. i say this as a sprout myself btw.
