Frank "FG" Thornton grew up in the Cross Atlantic Piru area of Compton/Lynwood. He joined the hood when his family moved there from 120th & Main street in Los Angeles. In 2000 the FBI targeted FG in a narcotics investigation. He was arrested in 2004, four years later, by the FEDS and was sentenced to 10-years (120 months) in prison, plus 5-years federal probation. He became a free man in 2018 after his convictions for selling 4 ounces of cocaine and according to his case he was set up in a sting by Mob James. In this part 8, FG talks about getting shot during a drug deal gone bad and being rushed to the hospital for life saving surgery.

Whether you agree with gangs or not, guys like him, Turtle and Cutes, explain why gangs grew so fast. FG is what all the original gang leaders wanted their successors to be like. Business and street Smart, honorable, fair, sincere, a hitter, and someone who understands fully the consequences of bangin win lose or draw. FG character displayed on these interviews, reminded me something my father taught me as a kid. “Son, as long as you’re genuine and sincere with people and it’s clear to them where you stand, you’ll never have to worry about needing much because people will know they won’t encounter with someone like you often.”

Which original gang leaders you referring too?…it’s certainly not the original crips. Maybe you know something I don’t in regards to original Piru’s and bloods! I’ve read Raymond Washington’s book (written with help from people who knew him)..I’ve read Tookie’s book, Monster Kody (who was 2nd generation). Business was not a thought with Raymond and Tookie. Their only aim was to expand the Crips into the most powerful gang entity by dominating other neighbourhoods by any means! As far as honourable - the original crips were the first too invade funeral homes, tip caskets over and slap mother’s of deceased! I think your over romanticising gang culture and it’s origins. Again, if you know something more about the thoughts of the original Piru’s and Bloods let me know your sources.

This was an interesting topic for sure. That's crazy. Anyway there was a part in the interview where FG explained how Cross Atlantic adopted the Piru identity. For clarification did Cross Atlantic adopt the Piru identity due to the influence of the branching off of other neighborhoods/sections like the ones he mentioned in an earlierpart of theinterview? Such as,, Elm, Luders, Lime? I'm just curious on how they adopted the Piru identity?

I honestly thought Cross Atlantic, was it's own separate hood with no ties to Luders Park by any means. I thought they were a neighborhood/section that started off neutral and adopted the Piru identity due to being in close proximity to Piru neighborhoods/sections?
