I just upgraded to 3. It might not be worth it to you living in a city, but it is for me. I live out in the country and have a German Shepard that can cover some ground when he’s chasing varments
Okay, I have to reply to myself lol After about 3 days of using the series 3 I’ve come to the conclusion that it doesn’t work any better than series 2. It may not be worth it
I have been using fi for over 2 years and currently using FI 3 series for over a year. If home and using wi-fi it is very accurate especially if my dog is out and leaves the boundary I have set. I take my dog on mountain hikes from 1-8 miles daily. At this time I allow my dog to run off leash, while doing this the tracking is good but not great. It needs to be close enough to my iPhone to get accurate updates which doesn't happen because he can 100-200 yards away from me at times. The collar will ping off a satellite in this case but not as ofter as I would like for accurate tracking. You can leave blue tooth off or use lost mode for it to use only satellites but each time it pings it draws straight line from each ping which is not correct.. example walking around a lake in this mode it pinged on one side of the lake and when I got around the lake it pinged again showing that he walked right across the lake not around. I try to have a visual on my dog at all times but sometimes he gets on scent of deer or other animal and is off through the brush, trees or different terrain that's why I need fast and accurate location updates which I don't get. Overall it is probably the best tracker available not including very high end hound dog gps tracking collars.
I've had the latest FI for a year and half. It's a last resort. As far as real time, it sucks. There is way too much lag in the live tracking. If there are roads near your house and your dog is a runner, then you might find your dog dead before the device works. FI and the Whistle should have HUGE disclaimers on the top of their website pages warning owners. Do not buy if you want to save your dog
Bought two Series 3, one for each dog. RIP OFF This company has no customer support, does not respond to emails or phone calls. The battery sometimes doesn’t last even one day, never more than a week. Annual monitoring cost as much as a new collar. Wish I had known, I would have bought a different collar that works.
This is the worst collar. It was at least a block or two off on the location when it connected at all. Email support got me no where. If you don’t buy a year membership then you cannot get phone support. I am still trying to return my collar. They say log into my account and I am logged in then it goes to an invite code that you cannot get past unless you invite a friend. It is not accurate at all. They kept wanting me to add more home bases to get it to connect better. I wanted gps and their gps when connected was so far off. I have used lots of gps devices and none are as bad at this one. It is only good for for the froo froo stuff like tracking how many steps your dogs took. They also said if it is used in gps the battery has a short life so basically it can only be used if it is connected to the home base. Support said to take my dog for a walk with out my phone and it will work to connect!??? The worst part is customer service. 2 days to answer and won’t give me a RMA #you return it’s like they are exhausting the 30 day return window.
