They are brilliant cars. Buy a three month old Lounge demo for under £9000.Keep it for less than four years and you will suffer around £1200 pa depreciation and low servicing etc. It’s a city car , but we use it for occasional long journeys and find the seats fine and it cruises at a true 70mph all day.We get 48mpg in ordinary use.
Ecorigon IV Clearly you have never owned another brand. All cars have problems, it’s called driver abuse or not understanding the mechanics and road, climate conditions.
@@UPdan well as I said. In Europe they are OK, cause parts are cheap and there's mechanics who know how to work on them. Here in Australia I'd never buy one. On the Australian site product reviews for this car it's full of bad ones regarding reliability.
They look really nice. It would Be a good car if you can get it cheap enough and look after it really well. Also love the white interior very beautiful.
@@connory6741 Sorry gallons tells me nothing we count in liters. The 2 cylinder turbo was only efficiënt in theory (lab results) in practice it did 8 liters pro 100km, not a good figure for a small engine and car. Meanwhile it's been taken out of production.
MrSparklespring yeah I realised not to long ago that there test results are false by a long way and fiat are lying about there economy. They lied about the economy on the 900cc 2 cylinder turbo. I believe there was a news article about how far off there results where to real world driving.
The issue is with a 0.9 2 cyclinder engine is that its always reliant on the turbo to move anywhere even in very normal conditions and using the turbo burns through much more fuel. If you drove the car like a granny and so slowly its basically unsafe in the modern world you would get those MPG figures. It would be much better with a 1.2 4 pot engine with a smaller Turbo.
I need a second opinion. I have a 15-year-old and a 10-year-old. The car is going to be used for me. I don't really need a family car. does anyone know if this is suitable for a single parent with half adult children? Thanks
Hey Annisa, Depends how tall the kids are - especially the 15 year-old. If they’re near or over 6ft they probably won’t enjoy sitting in the back, as it’s pretty tight. However, if you like the car and the space for the kids is your main concern, find one you like and have a poke around. They’ll let you test it and allow you to figure out if there’s enough space. We’ve all got individual requirements and trying it for yourself is the only way you’ll truly know whether it’s suitable.
Amazing the difference location makes. In the USA these are terrible cars. In the city a moped is better.. but i can see owning something like this in European cities
Good review, mediocre car for people who are disinterested in driving and like cute looks (nothing wrong with that), just not for me. I'd be concerned about reliability, depreciation and comparative cost of ownership.
Well in that case you can't beat the Fiat 500 Hybrid. Very low running cost, cheap to buy and the regular services are cheap too!! It also holds its value pretty good as it is a lifestyle car
Had a fiat 500 for about a year. Awful, wouldn’t pull you out of bed. Dangerous on motorway. No power whatsoever. Might look nice but my bones had rattled so much over every speed bump and pothole. Never again.... would feel safer on a mobility scooter!
I forgot this outdated car still existed. Notice that it has a 67-reg plate, which just shows that Fiat has given up on the 500 or is this an used car review?
I can’t even drive but l have always been scared of learning to drive with bigger cars so if l am ready l will go for a smaller car like this then after years of mastering l might upgrade
Mine is a 59 plate 1.2 lounge and it has a left foot rest for the clutch foot and what is all the moaning about the driving position?,which I find just fine, great little car and I love it
I know! It has some of the most comfy seats around! Most owners comment on just how comfy they are. A blog by some guy crossing the Arizona desert highlighted this very point.
I have one as a courtesy car I do wish the seat could be adjusted a little lower but I am 6ft so need more room than most Fiat 500 drivers. The seats are a little too small for my body too.
I hated this car before I drove one as a courtesy car. Yeah I hate how it looks but its actually really nice to drive in the city I would never buy one but I can see how some people find it appealing.
this car would be perfect for me other than that its a 120 mile trip to my mums house which i will have to make once a month or so (completely unideal with this car) what should i do?
I disagree with some of your review. I've just been down to Portsmouth from NE England for Christmas (700 miles) in my 2014 1.2 Lounge- great drive- performance wonderful- six hours door to door (300 miles). On roads nowadays performance is irrelevant- traffic is the prob.
Ho dear, this car is all style and no sunstance. It`s got dreadful road noise and a terrible ride. Still some people wll love it for it`s looks alone, just like a expensive handbag.
Thanks for the review. I was tempted to buy a Fiat 500 but I was so disappointed with the driving position, that unfortunately I will have to discard. Hello Ford Fiesta.
Being more upright actually is better on my lower back. Sitting high means you're at the same eye level as most bigger cars and see quite far ahead of the road. Has some of the most comfy seats around! Most owners comment on just how comfy they are. A blog by a guy crossing the Arizona desert highlighted this very point. Horses for courses of course. Fiesta also a good choice.
I think the older, smaller ones were better. I borrowed one of these recently (my Lotus was in for some work) and I think it's one of the worst cars I've ever driven. The steering is WAY to assisted, to the point where there is no feel at all and it's overly light. Grip level was poor, it constantly felt like it wanted to let go.
I’m considering buying my wife a 500 automatic but I keep getting comments that the auto box is poor. The other alternative is a Fiesta auto. Comments appreciated .
The Dualogic auto gearbox isn't great, so we would recommend the Fiesta auto instead. Best advice is to test drive both, however. Either car may really suit her for one reason or another, while the other just doesn't quite click.
I have a 2015 FIAT 500. In USA at least the automatic transmission is made by Aisin, a Japanese company. So far no trouble with it or any other part of the car.
The original design was fine for post-WW II Italy that needed an uber-cheap alternative to motor scooters. But these days the 500's a very uncompetitive car for the money, that ranks consistently low in reliability. So not surprising that their primary marketing appeal is to the sorta drivers who most value 'trendy'.
