I’ve owned my Fiat 500 Sport 2012 since new and it recently turned 158,000 kms with very few issues. It has a six speed automatic which performed very well especially when I hit the Sport mode button. Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦
Your car is made in Mexico. The one that is reviewed in a video is built in Poland. Mexican and Polish versions are quite a bit different. I have a mexican version with automatic gearbox too and I think mexican version is a lot better than polish version
I've had a few issues with my Abarth which will probably affect all of them. It's on 109k miles. Crumbling pipes in the engine bay (running close to heatshields so get cooked eventually). There are a number of weak suspension parts and those go, as well as rear bearings. The gear selector bush will break as well, causing a breakdown unless you replace it for a better one. The Earth strap will rust away and the car won't start. I live in the UK so mine is made in Italy by Fiat themselves.
Canada 2013 Lounge 5 speed, sunroof, leather interior, metallic red paint, 100,000 km The purchase experience was the worst I ever experienced so I should have taken the hint and bought another Jetta. Now I am a happy Nissan driver. 1)Leather interior stood up well except armrest 2)On a trip the shifter only reliably engaged 3rd and 4th gear, mechanic in Sarasota fixed for about $200 using generic bushing kit the official Fiat bushings were on back order with a unknown availability time 3) door handles broke twice on drivers side once on passenger door, once fixed under warranty second time at my expense 4)Brakes where done twice, dealer charged over $1,000 to do all four, parts for brakes done by me $250 and it was pretty straight forward think the dealer mark up was ridiculous 5) all 4 wheel bearings had to be replaced 6) catalytic converter rusted off at 100,000 km 7) the alternator went south at 100,000 km I am sure I missed a few, like the electric hatch release not working. On the positive side I enjoyed driving it and it never actually left me stranded, although when the shift bushings went it was close we where on vacation from Ontario, had spent New Years in New Orleans and where on our way to Sarasota when half way there at a gas stop it no longer shifted properly. I had visions of being ripped off by a mechanic near the Interstate so I drove the rest of the way to Sarasota in 4th gear abusing the clutch to start up in third gear. Found an honest shop in Sarasota and made it home without issue. I still have the car but it would cost more than the cars value to make it road worthy so right now it is just an ornament.
I have a 2012 500c Pop. No issues real mechanical issues so far. There are no squeaks or rattles. I live in Anchorage Alaska and in the winter this car handles the icy roads well if the roads are PLOWED. The ground clearance is 4.1". Also I took the back seat out and installed a flat kit that matches the carpeting and interior flawlessly. It looks like I bought a 2-seater with a cavernous trunk. I love the car.
Got a 2018 500e, perfect for even the coldest/hottest morning/afternoon commute of 40 miles. Can use heat and ac as needed. Costs nothing to charge. Amazing, cheapest vehicle I’ve ever owned (over 30 cars and counting). Most fun to drive, too.🤙🏽
I had the 2000 Toyota RAV4 (for 19 years!) and it was a great and reliable car, and when the FIAT500 came to the US, I became obsessed. Every time I saw a FIAT500, I was like a distracted dog that sees a squirrel. But, I couldn't justify buying a car while I had my very reliable Toyota. Well, the universe intervened in the way of a tow truck smashing into me (no physical injuries to myself!) and totaled my beloved RAV4 (the older model before they got too ridiculously big). I got a decent amount from their insurance company and started looking for a used vehicle that I could afford. I kept looking at FIATs, but I also looked at practical cars, like other Toyotas, etc. Finally, my brother reminded me how much I loved the FIAT500 and so I made up my mind and found the FIATlove of my life in a used 2014 500 Sport in the verde azzurro in 2019. It had about 50k miles and so clean. Since then, I've gotten new tires, rotors, and tinted windows and now have more than 100k miles on it. I have driven it from California up to Oregon several times, out to Las Vegas and Joshua Tree, and so many road trips around California (I live in the SF Bay Area) and it is such a fun car to drive! Zippy! I take it in for regular check ups and oil changes, and it has done very well. I love my FIAT500 so much so that I fall in love with it every time I see it. It's true, the media console is so outdated and the buttons have faded, and the body paint does chip off easily. Since I park in the street, my back bumper has gotten a lot of scratches, which I will have to repair at some point, and the front got a small crack from a careless driver backing into it (city living, parking in-between larger vehicles that don't see your little FIAT is always a risk for some bumper scrapes). I've had it for 3 years now and so far just the above replacements, knock knock on wood. ...meep meep. Thanks for this video!
I bought a fiat 500 brand new in 2018 I love this car It’s got a turbo and is quick I did have to replace the brakes but other than that I’ve had no problems
I had an Abarth 500 for a while. They are ok but there are better hot hatches. I never found the seats or driving position very good and the controls are a bit sloppy. It also went through a lot of parts and broke down twice in a year.
I too was always in love with the Fiat 500, and I also drove a Toyota Prius that I absolutely loved. I work at a Chrysler dealership and one day I spotted a 500 Sport on the lot, in white, which was what I had wanted. I hesitated because of all the negative things I heard about them, but I took it for a drive and that was it! It's a 2015 and had 41,000 miles on it, one owner, sunroof, and heated seats for $10,000. I bought it and I am so in love with this little spitfire! By the way her name is FIFI 😍
Being a mot tester In the UK , they suffer from rear axle corroding at the coil spring seat and in some cases the spring falls out. Also rear shock absorbers top bushes wear out and front suspension arm bushes wear out and the arms end up sitting on the sub frame causing a knock .
My wife wanted one. So I took a chance on a 998k km leather trim, mint green, color display odometer, just a notch down from the one with an iPad type display. We have had it for under a year and it is still going without any issues at all. There's a slight oil leak under the air intake, but nothing serious. No rattles at all. Firm-ish ride. I had to change a daylight light and I found it could have been better designed. You need to have Houdini hands for that one. As cool as this car is, they didn't think about where to place a smart phone. You can't Bluetooth music to it and there's no storage space around the front seats. Had I realized this up front. I think I would have bought it anyway. It is a dream town car and short trips motorway cruiser. Commuting type trips. Big enough to hold a weekly shopping for a family of 4 I reckon. When she lets me drive it, if I take my driver and hybrid woods out of the bag, I can also place a shoulder golf bag in the boot.
This channel is absolutely amazing. All the info is there and the mechanic bit is insanely useful. Awesome stuff, you're definitely going to be one of the biggest car reviewer channels within a year or two
I have had my Fiat 500 since 2008. it has 147,000 UK miles on it and only now am I starting to pay out for repairs. The book says 61mpg but I have regularly been getting 71mpg. It is a great little car that, if you set the driving position up correctly, you can drive for 6 hours straight without any problems. I know, I used to drive the length of England every weekend for a while ( hence the high milage).
I have a 2009 Abarth on 110k miles and there is always something wrong with it. Currently it leaks petrol from the breather pipe when full. In the last few months I've replace the springs, front droplinks, rear bushes and shocks, rear bearings, a split intake pipe. Also had to have an AC leak fixed.
Think we've missed something? Let us know on this comment thread! Stupid comments that don't focus on the pros and cons of the Fiat 500, will be deleted 🙂
Interesting Vlog, thanks, however I disagree on one point. I recently finished a 3500mi/5600km round trip from Las Vegas to Chicago. I drove each way in 30 hours. The terrain included desert, mountains and plains and included a snow storm entering Denver, Co. I thoroughly enjoyed my drive and found my 500c drove quite well and was comfortable on the long hauls....Love my 500c.
Hello from Japan. I have a Fiat 500C for 7years. I would like to share some of the things about this car. I had no major issued with this Italian car, as opposed to many people expected , lots of my American buddies call Fiat500 either JLO car or LEMON. However, there are 4 things you need to KNOW abut this Italian beauty. 1. Engine oil must be changed every5,000Km. 2. Timing belt and Frontal brake disk roater pad on wheel must be replaced with new ones every 50,000Km. 3. You need to have a good mechanic or garage who know about Italian cars, and get a car inspected every year. 4. And finally this is the most PAIN IN THE ASS part, If you have a so called Dual Logic Gear version of Fiat 500…. In Japan for some reason, Fiat dealers only sell Dual Logic Gear System in which you can drive on either stick or auto mode, of Fiat 500…. This gear need lots of care such as gear oil must be changed and required to be calibrated every 20,000Km. And DLG system and clutch needed to be replaced with new ones at around 120,000Km!!! That usually costs around over $3,000!!! Hey, after all, this car is all about style and this lovely retro look, For that reason I believe people fall in love with this Italian beauty!! I live in Tokyo and this tiny angel can go smoothly in any part of the city sooo easily with style!! I love this Fiat 500!! Peace and Love from Japan!
I’ve seen on Instagram, so many Japanese own this car, and I love looking at their photos! Not sure if I could get a used ones and take care of it, but surely I’d love to drive it sometime 🤍
I mean I know it´s not really the same car, but my Abarth has actually been very reliable and every time I get to drive/see it I can´t help but smile. Emotion is just more important than perfection, at least to me.
In the US all the 500s got the same 1.4 the Abarth had, they just weren't turbo charged on the basic models. There was a separate turbo model with 130hp and some of the same suspension components as the Abarth, but they all had variations of the same engine here.
Do you mind if I ask why to avoid dualogic? I currently own a manual Fiat 500 but was looking at the dualogic thinking it would make commuting to and from work easier. Are dualogic known to be unreliable?
@@Tiddley Dual logic is an automated manual which uses a fairly complex actuator mechanism to change gears... when they go wrong they can be pricey to fix and a lot of techs just don't understand them
Not that reliable at high miliage though. I've had to replace loads of stuff on mine. Rear bearings, springs, shocks, numerous bushes, droplinks, broken hoses. Now I think the gearbox mount is going, it needs bushes in the control arms and the toe links need replacing. Also broke down twice within the same year (broken gear linkage bush, then a corroded earth strap). Mine is an Abarth 500 but most of the parts are the same.
I just recently bought a 2013 Fiat 500 Turbo Coupe. She's got a 108,000 miles put on her, and I had to get a window mechanism put into the passenger door, but that's the only issue I've had so far. I've wanted one for many years and now I have one. I've replaced the door flags on the outside and she was missing a plastic trim piece that goes on the bottom of the door mirror and that's coming in the mail. A few other minor issues are the sun visor mirror on the driver side missing and that's about it. Nothing a little time and a little money can't fix. Even with those issues, she runs like a champ and is so much fun to drive!! What got me excited about them was the fact they are so great on gas mileage and they fact they were available with 5 speed manual gearboxes!! I missed having one and I'm super stoked about having one once again!! I already plan on getting her a pair of door sill plates and a set of chrome door mirror caps to doll her up some more. I named mine Aurelia, which is a ancient Roman woman's name meaning "Golden One". I also almost forgot to mention that she has a set of the Abarth wheels on her!!
"The thermostat is about a $200 part, takes about an hour and a half labour to put it in so that's about a $450 all up" That's $166 per hour charge, literally twice as much as any other trade person charges and even more than the hourly fee of a lawyer or even doctors. No wonder people feel ripped-off by mechanics and good thing I learned how to read a repair manual and have been taking care of my vehicles for the past 20 years.
Great vid and good coverage of the pros/cons imo, love the honesty and no bullshit attitude of describing both… I’ll definitely recommend these kind of reviews to my customers in future for when they want to buy a new car. Im a mechanic and 1 of my customers have one of these. Unfortunately she bought it in bad shape and neglected with minimum routine service maintenance. After buying it for around £4000, it then cost a further £900 (mates rates) to replace a blown Dual Mass Flywheel, rear shocks, front brakes and wheel bearings. As he said in the video, Check the maintenance history and thoroughly check the car over! Cheaply built with cheap parts! Subscribed 👍
love the review. actually romanticized abt getting an abarth. it was a black competizione .until i discovered it costs R320 000 here in South Africa. had to settle for a ford ranger 2.2 xls double cab never regreted that option.
I live in Michigan in the US. I have owned my 2012 manual Fiat 500 Sport for 6 years now and I just love love love it! It is such a fun car to drive. Perhaps the newer ones have gone down in quality 😮. Mine has never had any squeaks or rattles, I find the seats to be extremely comfortable. It looks like it just came off the showroom floor... No rust or dings. I did have the door handle replaced and an electrical short that a wise mechanic was able to fix inexpensively. Recently my son-in-law installed new spark plugs and I had the transmission fluid changed. Considering the enjoyment this car has offered I have no complaints.
The only fiat 500 I'd honestly consider buying is the one that Arsène Lupin III drives. Another good video guys though I'm surprised we didn't hear Joel laughing at the stuff ups. Also an idea for a video is popular makes of cars that were replaced with inferior models (e.g. the Getz being replaced with the far worse i20)
Don't know if you check responses long after your comments, but yours is a *great idea!* Replacing old, loved cars with _~meh~_ replacements has happened for decades, and would be fun to see a survey video.
@@be5952 I get notification when people have replied to the comments so hope that answers your question lol. As you said their are a lot of popular models that get canned by auto makers and replaced by far inferior replacements and then they wonder why sales are down lol.
I got a 2013 red turbo.. of course manual.. I stopped riding my motorcycle for almost a month!! Every time i drive it i have a smile on me... Turbo is not soo hard as an Abarth, but comes with bigger brakes than the pop, also leather heater seats, auto clima control and fog lights.. Has everything!!! Love it! Maintenance starter... (same happened with my older pop... try to get a oem, china home made are bad.. ) oil changes and brakes.. All DYI quick projects... Starter takes 45 minutes to reinstall in you driveway!! AVOID AUTOMATIC VERSION!!!
@@s.z.x.01 it sounds like he has had 5 fiats that he traded in each time - I also LOVE Fiats and have owned the 2012 Fiat 500c and traded it in for the 2018 Fiat 500e! I don’t see myself owning anything else in the near future :)
I have a 500 Lounge I bought new in 2009 - it's now done 85,000kms. Very few issues at all - except one that you didn't mention - the back hatch mechanism fails and then the only way of opening the hatch is with the remote, regardless of whether the car is unlocked. And weirdly you can't unlock the hatch when the car is running, you must turn it off, take the key from the ignition and then the remote will work. Bizarre. I took it to Fiat who quoted me about half the value of the car to fix followed by the famous 'they all do that'. Thanks. Also my local Fiat dealer changed owners and the new guys are charging $175 plus GST per hour for any work done. Steady guys, it's a bloody Fiat!
great cars but it's the lack of dealer coverage now compared to say the era when LNC the same people who used to bring in the Subarus and Renaults(well before Volvo and now Nissan for them)and at one stage Lancia that would put me off buying one,At one stage Adelaide had three dealers(Newspot Salisbury Park,Adrien Briens at St Marys and Solitaire at Eastwood)now it's just the one.and the worst part is taking it to the same place as a person who has an expensive Bentley or Aston Martin or Jaguar for service today.
We had the Twinair Turbo version and it was a little corker - quick, nippy and comfy. No problems in the 3 years we had it and I often wish we'd kept it.
Before buying, find out what the service interval for timing belt replacement is, is it a non-interference engine, and what is the estimated cost of a timing belt replacement. I was a Fiat mechanic back in the 80's....Buyer beware and be sure to have sufficient funds for unexpected repairs.
Owner here of 2 Fiat 500c Auto 2013 with 110K km and 136K km. It's just one of those cars that you want to love even though it has lots of problems. Wonderful interior. Lag and delay when stepping on gas to get into or out of lane. It's quicker when in sport mode. Got use to the weird auto shifter after a while. Very uncomfortable for long trips. Wish they had cruise control. Cup holders are way too small and couldn't fit or hold your average size drink. Most aftermarket chargers are smaller than the cigaret lighter socket. Air conditioning fails when idle. Had to replace transmission. Fuel pump failed on me. Had to replace window regulators which are made from cheap plastic. Had to replace convertible rail after pieces of plastic started to break even though both cars were garage kept. Very expensive car to maintain in terms of parts and labor cost.
We have 2011, 2 cylinder twin air 900cc 500. We live in the central Tablelands nsw, have travelled to Qld and Vic in it. Ours has 16 inches rins with 45 series tyres. Ride it better than a yaris with same tyres. Best fuel economy 3.8 l per 100k. To Qld on New England Highway. Average is usually around 6l per 100k. In 120,000 we have replaced front brake pads and rotors, 2 spark coils (warranty). Loving it, practical yes I can carry lots of stuff when rear seats folded down. When we have rear passengers I show courtesy and move my seat forward to give comfort to rear passengers.
I just sold my 1.2l Fiat 500 which I had for 5 years. Not one thing ever went wrong with it - it is a fantastic car, especially for city driving and is very economical.
I got to test drive a used 500 5-speed today and now im obsessed with finding one for a second vehicle just for bonking around in. Such a fun little car and very easy to operate, it was my first manual drive in almost 10 years and didn't stall once.
amazing channel quality! good information about the little car! I once had a black 500 2012 . I sold and bought a Peugeot 408 turbo. Here in Brazil a Fiat 500 2012 costs 50 thousand R$! Approximately 10 thousand dollars .50% of the value of the car is tax
I live in Chicago Illinois and I just wanted to give a shout out ❤️ to this host. Extremely wonderful video. Wow. Impressed and thankful. Well done gang. I subscribed
I have had 3 500,s and had no mechanical problems what so ever my wife and I drive it everywhere, and have done 37000 miles in the las 20 months in our current model the rockstar (strange name I know) all good and looking to purchase another… with the current deals out at the moment it a no brainier, 3 years free services and cheap pcp deals, new 6 speed gear box and added climate control, auto lights and wipers… in the sport … all in all also works out cheaper then using public transport… happy days 👍
I have the 2013 Turbo. It is fun to drive when I can drive it without worrying about the police. For clarification, I leave home at 3:20pm for work. I return at 2:00am. As you can imagine, lights are needed when I leave work. This takes some of the fun out of it because this car has built-in flaws. The wiring, for the electrical items of the hatch, is routed through a rubber sleeve that sits by the left hinge in the US. I can't speak to the right-hand-drive versions. You might think that Fiat would have allowed for this to be a non issue since accommodating the sleeve wouldn't be an aerodynamics issue. They didn't. While Fiat thought to give us a bunch of otherwise useful warnings for when the car has maintenance and repair needs, I can't help but wonder if those extra electronics are causing some of the troubles. My tag lights cut off, after a short while, while driving. For this reason, I can't relax and enjoy my return from work. One of my daytime running lights is similarly unreliable. I've thought about modding some of my older vehicles with a line-drawing picture of a car or truck and giving it low-powered LED indicators that indicate which lights are actually performing their intended functions. It would have been low-tech and use a tap on the ground-side of the load for the return signal. These people added some tech for that purpose. I wish they hadn't. I shouldn't worry about the cops so much. This car handles incredibly well and the last cop that would have pulled me over stopped in front of my driveway and commented on my driving skills and asked me to slow down so he could catch me next time. From where he spotted me, I can't see why he couldn't unless he has limited skills himself. If I were on a straight route, this car would pose trouble driving at night. I've found others with the same issue. Also, the turbo actuator can't handle the boost that this car absolutely needs to not be an utter PoS. It's going to require an aftermarket version that doesn't use the same mechanical design. This does make it a trash car. Thankfully, there is a solution in the aftermarket. Once these issues are dealt with, I won't have anything to complain about. After all, who needs a spare tire for a vehicle that rides on pneumatic rubbers. My guess is that everyone does but I don't travel far and I have a truck and trailer.
My first 500 was a 2015 electric, loved that car, like driving a go cart. Alas, it was a lease, and when it was time to turn in the car it was to expensive to purchase. The dealer though had two brand new 2017 sport models they were selling for under 13 grand because it was late 2018. I snagged one and it has been great. A few problems like my radiator started leaking fluid and had to be replaced, luckily covered by warranty. I had a bulb go out on my dash for the air conditioning knob, 300 bucks🙄 that was a pisser. Otherwise a great driver. It could get better gas mileage in the city, about 28 mpg average but highway about 38 to 42 mpg. Have taken two long drives from Santa Rosa Ca to Rancho Mirage and the car performed wonderfully and was very comfortable. Easy to park, cheaper to fill with a 10 gallon tank, and with used car prices today, I could sell it for what I paid for it, not bad. Oh and the stereo is awesome
I have a 2012 fiat 500 1.2l and in cold climate if you have only short drives the exhaust rear silencer lasts about 4 years. Also runing the rews above 4000rpm can result in fuses breaking for rear foglights or rearwindow heating. Frontal support arms are weak and on rough roads wear quickly. Also on dirt roads the frontal wheel arc paint peels off because there is no protection on it and the sand and dirt flinged at it will eat it super fast. Cheap car to own and to fix most of the time. Good to drive, has space to get stuff around, but only with one passanger. If you have 3 people in the car a biger luggage will be problematic.
Woohh what a score!! You had a good built 500!!! Mine the paint kept peeling off while driving!!! Not to mention horrible loud noises coming from everywhere as soon as I sat in…I guess mine was haunted too!!!
Back intime my then girlfriend and I were living on Sardinia , and she bought a convertible Fiat 500 (actually the 1.4 ) I drove round the interior and exterior of the island twice . I had an Alfa Romeo at the time (still do ) but that little Fiat fitted me in ( I'm 6ft 3 ) and drove beautifully
it was the only 0 mile/km car i purchased. it'll be my last. 2012 Pop, 5 speed stick - can't believe manual is going away. I've put into it 1/2 of what I paid for it in maintenance( to be fair it had 100k+ at the time). I still enjoy driving it, but wouldn't reccomend it. Manual makes for better drivers!!
We have a 2014 Fiat 500e, now with 72K miles-- This car has been fantastic, no issues at all. We literally have done NOTHING to it but recently added new tires.. We still have not even replaced the brakes as the re-gen braking keeps the pads fresh. I think other than electricity, air in the tires and windshield fluid -- nothing else has been needed! It's also really quick -- as fast as the Abarth and super fun in the twisties. A great car for the money! (note that I've had 30+ cars over my lifetime -- Mercedes, BMW's, Lexus, Nissan, Subaru, Volvo, Saab, etc, etc) I honestly don't know what this guy is talking about in the video -- maybe the original 2012 model?
I have a 2013 Pop manual and it has been a good car. Had trouble with the drivers side door handle, the drivers side window regulator and a gear shift linkage bushing had to be replaced. Still looks good. I like that you can run regular in it and it has averaged 36 mpg overall. On the road it does 42 or so.
I have a 500x. Love it. 2018. Stil going. Only problem I had was that I believe the dealer did not change the recall concerning her oil usage..I took the hit..because they insisted it was my problem. Other than that she had been great.
I’m an SUV/Truck person and idky but I’ve been eyeing a 2016 Fiat 500X Lounge. I am just trying to get an idea of it’s just a stage I’m going through or if I’ll really like it…. Plus if there’s a lot of problems with these cars. This channel is pretty awesome. I’ve saved them and subscribed so I can check out all the videos on cars I come across in my search for a cheaper car that is comfy and reliable. :)
Ive got a 2013 500 automatic convertible. Its been a great small car. Sold an MGB to buy my 500. I actually measured it. Its smaller than my B but much more fun to own.
I bought what most would call an absolute nugget of a Fiat 500 1.2. Sold as knackered engine which in reality was the gearbox bearings. I have smashed the pants off it for 18 months without so much as an oil change and it is still going strong.
By listening to you we should have never bought one, but we did back in 2013, brand new. We still have it just this year 2023 we had to put some money on it, a new radiator, we do live in the American desert South West were temperatures can get brutal. We went ahead & replaced hoses, belts & so forth, the car has been a jewel, mostly a city car it is like driving a go cart. One thing we don't like is the reaction of some people, they get annoyed here in TANK country U.S.A. some folk try to intimidate us by riding very close to our rear. Used ones are going for about 15K U.S. which is what we paid new. We are planning to keep it for another 10 years will make a determination then, by the way my wife named him Gino 😀
I actually test drove two of the Fiat 500 one with turbo and one without both with standard gear shift. The turbo one was the real winner fun to drive.
You left out the sport model which sat between the Pop and Abarth. I have a 2015 Sport which has the 1.4 litre engine and 6 speed manual gearbox. It is a blast and the only problem I have after almost 6 years is the AC dash fan needs a new resistor pac (controls the fan speed). Also never had a problem with Blue & Me connecting to any of my iPhones. If you do you can download firmware updates for Blue & Me. My daughter has a 2015 Pop 1.2 litre 5 speed and she has not had any problems. Both of our cars were made in Poland.
I’ve bought one from 2009. Beautifully kept. Semi auto. When I’m doing around 20mph it’s jittery. Is this normal? Do I need to keep in city / eco mode? It’s not smooth drive unless I’m doing over 30
How about a review of the Abarth 595 Comp? Great content and I notice Quantum Mechanics ( great name) around the corner from my in laws when up visiting.Sik!
No mention of the amazing TwinAir, the engine that manages to be frugal and thirsty almost at the same time. Or the Diesel variant, which was actually petrol 🙂
Owned a 2015 Pop when it came to America - broke day 2….engine would turn off by itself when stopped. Dealership lemoned my car. My replacement car, took it on a 800 mile road trip first week of having it - AC blower broke in 100 degree summer weather. After that, the instrument cluster clock stopped keeping time (replaced entire cluster), drivers side inside door handle stopped working (whole door panel replaced), passenger seat mechanics warped and couldn’t pull seat forward (seat replaced), back taillights filled with water (replaced), passenger side door rubber seal incorrectly installed at factory (replaced), plastic cover under steering wheel column broke off (replaced), back fiat badge began to bubble up (badging replaced). This was all within the first 2 years. I thought it was super fun to drive but all of the issues scared me past the initial offered warranty, so I traded it in.
@@ReDriven yeah, it was a fun lil car but the reliability is so spotty I would never buy another fist again (however it seems like they aren’t long for the United States). Unrelated, love the channel and videos. You’re really good at what you’re do and make your videos far more entertaining than most. I’ve subscribed!
I love my 2013 Fiat 500. Only issue I have is it started to develop some kind of vibration on the driver side that I need to figure out. I’m sure it’s minor.
I had a fiat 500 and it was the best car I ever owned because it was a manual. The automatic is awful and jumps into gears at times. My fiat It was very fun to drive. Easy to park and cheap on fuel. The cons although are bad. The dash piece leather came off within 6 months of owning the car. Fiat refused to fix it. After a number of attempts they finally fixed it only because the owner of the dealer found out about it and gave us some merchandise to make up for it. The major service is crazy at $1000 and they barely can tell you what they did. The rear brakes were crazy expensive also. Our driving light stopped working after a few years and again fiat wasn’t interested fixing it as the whole bumper has to come off to replace a glove so big money there. I did sell it for a Kona. I know right but it was fun while I had it was just I small for a family.
Ive got the lounge version with the nice panoramic roof electric windows , AC etc very nice fun car but the plastics are awful , I had to clip back together the handbrake cover yesterday LOL but i fitted my own rear view camera and front dash cam , I was going to fit Apple car play but it would obscure the vents for fresh air so no can do sadly
i had a fiat linea 1.3 for 3 years and i had no problems except i filled with a bad quality diesel and the injectors damaged. it costed me a lot. but i cant blame the car for that. then i bought the upper version, fiat egea 1.3 and its working fine. its a cheap car and does its job so we cant blame the brand for that
That charm and Non-refinement is what makes the Abarth one of the all time great cars. Modern cars are quicker and handle better, but all that refinement means they’re absolutely wasted especially with our meagre speed limits.
This was a very good and honest review! I drove a 1998 Toyota RAV for 22 years until it just became embarrassing to drive. That thing will run forever. But without me 😂 When it came time to replace it, I spent a couple of years trying to make the best choice, having always wanted a Mini Cooper but was afraid of the reliability, and absolutely loved every time I test drove a Fiat 500 convertible, but again also afraid of the reliability. I ended up buying a 2016 mini Cooper countryman which has turned out to be quite expensive, and a real oil burner. Also not one week goes by without a different warning light coming on, it may as well be a poop emoji at this point 💩 😣 So where do I find myself, a little over a year into my Mini Cooper? That’s right, back to looking at RU-vid videos of Fiat 500s! Just can’t get the little bugger out of my head, no matter what my brain is telling me. They are just so much fun to drive and so much fun to look at. If I could afford a second car, I would definitely get one. Every single person I’ve seen in my town who drives one says they love theirs and have no problems with them. However, they are no longer sold here and so far no mechanic I’ve met wants to work on them. 🤦🏻♀🤷🏻♀
Wow, it's been a year and what a journey. It took some learning for me, because I had my driving exam in a brand new high powered diesel car. So driving a manual low-powered petrol car was a switch-up. I still stall it sometimes, because it doesn't like to go slow. But every time I get behind the wheel, I fall in love all over again. I have a white and red model, very unique; it's got a red body with white mirrors and rims and the interior is white to match. What an amazing car, would recommend it to anyone
I have had Fiat’s since 1987 mainly has a second car but in 2008 I bought a new one as my main car. No macine is perfect but I feel they are unjustly criticised. My wife was the main driver of these cars. My other car has been various BMW’s over the years. These were good cars to but not always perfect.
I'm thinking to get an AUTO, but having watched this I need to go back to manual driving and learning the right hand drive in the UK. Is the 2017 model 1.2liters good buy/?
Here in America, fiats don’t have dual clutch automatic manuals. Only the large 500L had one and it was for two years, all fiats have a TOYOTA 6 speed automatic including the Abarth. Only one that doesn’t is the fiat 500X and that has a zf 9 speed auto.
It was pricey in Australia.I bought me a Tiida around the time Fiat was returning to Australia in 2006 had that till 2010.yes it was a pile of shit next to the Fiat but it had plenty of space and crumple zones in case someone hit you in the rear meant you could report everything to the police at the station in minutes as opposed to off in ambulance to hospital.I then had a Micra and a Spark and now drive an older Mazda 3.it was after being totalled by a truck in the spark i won't go anything smaller than a golf or a corolla.
Still a heap less problems that more expensive cars. Owned one for years. No issues. Given how many on roads in Syd and Melbourne….never seen one stranded by side of the road. Fuel miser, runs on the smell of an oily rag. My only gripe… cheap interior quality plastics.
Had three 500s and honestly had no real issues… nothing broke and nothing fell off. Only my electric 500 has had a fault and even that was caused by a rat (!) so not the cars fault! Loved every one of them!!
Hello ReDriven, I am looking at purchasing a used Fiat 500. I understand Ak Morris the presenter is 6’2” and he didn’t seem to have any difficulty sitting comfortably inside the car. I am 6’4” do you foresee me having issues with fitting inside the car / driving it comfortably. Thank you in advance.
got one as an unwanted rental once...once. This is a tiny garbage barge on wheels. Has poor road holding characteristics, wind buffet was horrendous, mileage for something so small and light was poor...not really much good to say about it.
I really want a fiat 500 but feels kind of stupid as I drive over 80km/h 70% of the time so it might dont be a logical and smart choice. That said I would love to have a charming and simple car again that I can trust. Driving a French Sport car atm and while its super fun its not something you trust all year around 😅 Also I have read that there is a secret compartment under/in the seat 😀
