Is your timing belt worn out? In this episode the we remove the timing belt cover and check for wear and tear. It's time to check the condition of our Fiat Barchetta's timing belt to see how bad it is. The timing belt cover is removed...eventually!
If it's worn out or damaged then it will need to be replaced very soon.
The gear knob needs attention as well! In this episode we also take the Fiat Barchetta out for its first drive in 6 months!

CIAO Paul...with the cover nearly off, just do it even if the belt looks ok you can't see the pulleys and water pump which ar the main reason for belt failure. The yellow Mark's are quality controls done on the assembly line when it was made.i enjoy watching your videos because I've been through it in the past with my barchetta..bravo👌😎

Ciao. Yes I suppose you're right. The belt might look ok but those other parts could fail and cause a big problem. I think it's something I will do soon. I will need to get the tools together etc to do the job.

Paul I am in South Africa where I have the only Fiat Barchetta in the country. I recently changed my cambelt and had the timing checked by three garages. The car won't idle properly. The new cam belt has 168 teeth. How many teeth should the Barchetta have?

Does anybody know what that squeel is at 1:59 when the engine starts? Mine does the same

It's the starter motor. Someone else commented that it can be cleaned rather than replaced. I'll try and do a video about it at some point in the future!

@@pauliecabs ah I figured. That's unfortunate since I hoped it would be a belt or something. I look forward to your video :) Though I'm considering selling my 96 barchetta here in NL, since I have my eye on a 86 Toyota Supra

The timing belt shoud be changed Evert 3-4 years Do IT your self IT is easy

I will at some point. I will need to get more tools to do the job. The belt looked in better condition than I thought. It will definitely be a future episode!

By the look of the belt it's probably be changed at least once. It would probably look more worn if it was the original??

@@pauliecabs often the age of it is even more important than the kilometers. Of course it could hold but it could also ruin your engine when the belt tensioner or the belt itself breaks. :/ I would not risk it. The change is totally possible to to on your own. :) Anyway, great video!
