The Fiat Dino was created because Ferrari needed to Homologate their newly developed V6 racing engine, designed for the Ferrari 206SP. The Dino name refers to the fact the engine comes from Ferrari's Dino V6 engine, they were produced by Fiat and used to achieve the production numbers needed so Ferrari could homologate the engine for it to be eligible for Formula 2 racing.
Ferrari used the engine in the Dino 206 GT and the 246 GT/S street cars. They were Enzo Ferrari’s tribute to his late son, Dino, who helped design the engines. The homologated engine was used by Fiat in a new, sporty front engined Fiat model that also carried the Dino name.
The early Fiat Dino had 2.0-liter alloy blocks, while later cars had the 2.4-liter steel block, both had a 5 speed manual transmission. for a small 2.0 litre V6 the perfomance was amazing., The Fiat Dino spyder is capable of 0-60 mph in 7 seconds and a top speed of 130MPH. The Fiat Dino was offered as a coupe or a spider, designed by both Bertone and Pininfarina, respectively. Fiat produced the Dino from 1966 to 1973, during which time 7,803 examples were produced. with only 420 of them being spyders.

Lovely car, one of the many cute sportscars made by Fiat around the 60s and the 70s. I own two Fiat 128 Sport Coupe with a very reliable engine designed by Aurelio Lampredi, who worked on the Dino V6 too. This Spider is a real jewel!

About the horn ... Rules in Italy and Europe are such that cars require City and Highway horn tones ... The city mode being obviously more quiet than the highway mode

The first horn mode was for city driving and the second mode was for driving in the country. Many vintage Bentley and Rolls Royce have town and country horns.

I'm not sexist but this car was designed for men, that's why we don't care where the air/heating switches are located, we never used the dual horn. This beauty was built to be enjoyed by drivers, not posers. Great video though, you know your ''stuff''. Looking forward to your mg tf video. Thanks.

A bit weird when you see a constant moving Dino but hear the sound of acceleration. May I suggest you match sound with film? I love a Fiat Dino, pref a Coupe I think. A late 2.4 with individual rear suspension. This Spider hard-top is prob pretty rare!

Back in the mid 80's, my "dope man" had a hardtop version (not sure if it ran, though). The one thing I remember about the car was the dual city/highway horn. Only in Italy, right?

The engine was designed by Alfredo Ferrari & Vittorio Jano who had designed engines for Alfa & then built by Fiat, so Ferrari engine?, even Enzo Ferrari said Ferrari engines have 12 cylinders, nothing less. Cosworth tuned & helped design the heads on the V6 Ford Duratec engine but i doesn't make it a Cosworth engine.

These are such beautiful cars, and that example looks significantly better presented than when it left the factory! But those hardtops are rare, and you can see why; utterly horrid and ruins the lines of the car. I would put it somewhere else in the shop and leave the soft top up. That would also preserve the material better than leaving it stowed and creased. As a minor point, although Alfredino had some limited input to what became known as the Dino racing engines of the 1950s, he sadly died 10 years before the Dino road cars came to market and had zero to do with the 206/246 production engines.

These engines (even those mounted on the Ferrari Dino 206 and 246) were built by Fiat at Mirafiori Plant, Torino. This Italian brand is not less respectable than others, having produced not only mass production cars but also performance and luxury sportcars. There's a close collaboration between Fiat and Ferrari since 1965.
