It is actually a terrible system, because the cable that runs in that tube rusts solid. There is then no way that you can get at the mechanism to free it up because the wheel is in the way. You really would think that Fiat would put checking the spare wheel mechanism in the service schedule, but they didn't. The spare wheel is completely unprotected so it's going to be soaked in water and salt spray. So the garages never check it, and when you have a puncture on the highway there is not a thing you can do about it.
Hi just an update . Had my wheels changed on my Roller Team 747. The mechanic found you can’t access the spare wheel winch because the side skirt doesn’t allow access.
Mate, thank you! I have been struggling with this on my vauxhall Combo, winding it out further (thought it was) so that I had room to then articulate the holding bracket.
If you want to put the alloy in the carrier after a change then you will need an adapter. Also there should be a remote valve tube to attach to the valve before you raise the wheel.
On the winding mechanism there is a window which has an indicator to let you know when you have wound up to the correct torque! You haven't mentioned this!
