Fiat Ducato Airbag Disaster

Thanks for the video Keith, it enabled me to quickly remove the unit and have t ready to go to Crashdata. I emailed them 1st to which they replied within 15 minutes and I went on their website and placed my order for repair. I would 100% recommend their service, saying that, I haven't got the unit back but I see hundreds of Motorhomers who have trusted them. May I add, why on earth do Peugeot/Fiat allow this fault to keep on happening when it is obviously ocuring in hundreds of their Motorhomes. It's almost a factory fault/problem that the vehicles should be recalled for?

Had the pleasure of this fault. Fitted new vehicle battery and crashdata reset the sensor... All now working fine. Great video, saved me time and effort. took apart on tuesday all finished on friday.. Thanks 😮

I don't understand why people buy Fiat or Citroen asking for trouble. Good video it will help someone out

Thanks for your excellent video, I bought a few weeks ago a 2nd hand 2019 Benimar 202 22000km , the previous lady owner had her Airbag icu replaced dec 2023 at a cost of Nz1008 plus labour plus 15 % gst just out of warranty …….unbelieveble rip off

Although this was easy to rectify it’s not acceptable that there is data loss due to a flat battery ! I would expect the system to have a back up data battery for this which should be replaced on a regular service basis , it’s just not right from major manufacturers.

Oh no sorry to hear about this as you say in video such a comment problem on the Fiat Ducato , peugeot Boxer and Citroen relay . Heard so many good reports about great customer service from Crash Data . I was told to put headlights on before starting to help stop power surge . Don’t know why I didn’t get a notification when this video came out ?, anyway thanks Keith and camara lady Michele 🎥, Sod’s Law whenever you go and check caravan or Motorhome everything is fine, and when you don’t have time to do a check, there’s a problem, and what a price difference between online service and dealer , just goes to show shop around, thanks again guys 👍👍.

Very useful, same thing just happened to our Motorhome.

Has this been a long term fix? I see many positive comments about crashdata then followed by a comment about how the warning light came back on within a few months!

Great video did it work ok for long after crash data fixed ? I am doing mine today ...can't get that plastic piece of dash out like you did 😅 I am struggling

We have the same issue after a flat battery… To get rid of the annoying “See Handbook” warning, press “mode” and it goes. You have to repeat the action whenever you switch the ignition back on. It doesn’t however turn the red light off!

Don’t know if it makes any difference but a mechanic who has been working on our Autotrail did say it’s a good idea to turn the ignition key to the on position and then wait until all the indicator lights that will go out to disappear then start the engine - he has been working on our van repairing a wiring fault caused by the main ECU cable being so badly installed that one of the metal studs that holds the ECU in place had shorted out some of the wires! Love our Autotrail but the van part build quality is total crap! Luckily it hasn’t fried the ECU or any of the modules so the repair hasn’t cost a huge amount this time. Might be as well to check the wiring harness around your Autotrails main ECU in case you have a similar problem waiting to happen, once the mechanic repaired the wiring harness he fitted a simple P clip to the stud in order to prevent it happening again.

Great to see you both back. My solar panel worked ok over winter. Are you sure it’s not failed. As mine in my Stirling 2014 failed last year.

Don't be dissapointed if it happens again. It's happened to others two or three times unfortunately. Fiat have apparently only just found a fix for the newer models.

Just a little side note. The lock on the passenger door, is lockable from the outside, (but it is really the drivers door as it’s a European model)

Hi guys, just to let your know that there is usually a hole in the inside of the passenger door opposite the lock mechanism, if you insert a screwdriver in there with the door open and then flip the little latch upwards you can then close the door and it should be locked. When you use the key fob again it will unlock as usual.. If you need some pics or a short video, just let me know 👍

You can lock the passenger door manually, there's a little hole on door where you can flip a latch, close the door then its locked.

that is a terrible fault that fiat need to ge tresolved. a flat batter yshould not in any way do aharm to any of the computers in the vehicle and 100% sahould not cause any fault with air bag module.. i would seek legal advice on this as that could be a potential fataility if a wire should brea kwhilst travelling and cause battery to go almost dead flat, and trust me that can happen ......

You can lock the passenger door ,small hole on side of door insert screwdriver and flip up lever!!!

hi.we have the same problem & our battery is 6 years old what do you think of the Yuasa 5000 battery thinking of buying one & is the light still off only i read somewhere after sending the unit away the light came back on after a few months .sylvia

An ex Fait mechanic has told me that jump starting the 2015 or newer Ducato causes ECU faults and indeed failures of varying types including the Airbag!! Basically the electric components don't suppress correctly. Never jump start a Ducato 😢

Hiya both, great to see you both again. One quick question. Now that you have a motorhome, do you find it more expensive than running a caravan. With tax on motorhome and insurance, and taxing a car aswell. Cheers, peter.

With the door locking point.....can you lock the passenger door before removing the battery?

Why did you need an new Airbag Model because the Battery went flat?? In my job fixing cars we would be replacing loads every day!!! All it needs IF it has any 'Stored Faults' is wiping them with a Code Reader or disconnecting the Battery when fully charged!

Any warning light is a mot failure.
