Great cars Sean, worked on them for years and always enjoyed it, I owned 2 in my time and loved driving them, so economical yet peppy enough to keep up with traffic even on the freeways.
Very simple, turn the engine TDC on the crank, the cam gear has a line mark on it, and there is a cleft on the head on the intake manifold side at 90 degrees to the top of the gear, these marks have to line up and use the cam belt tensioner to adjust the tension of the cam belt, make it similar to the tension of a fan belt. Sir I recently bought a 2002 fiat palio 1.6 but it chows fuel spark plug number 2 comes out with oil on it and it swallows oil with blue(wish) smoke and I can't take off with just a clutch I have to assist with a bit of acceleration otherwise it jerks and want to switch off, what could be wrong
