In this video I do a fiberglass repair for a rust hole with No welding necessary on a Toyota Corolla using simple materials and tools that will get the patch job done quick and easy. USC Duraglass bodyfiller: amzn.to/3vvWjqZ
This is great! So many get hung up on things looking perfect of on making a fix that ends up outliving a used car that probably only has under 5-10 years left anyhow. This is a GREAT way to get it done in a hurry, and get back to work so I can buy something that will last well into the future! :)
I agree that everything doesn’t have to be perfect and you want something that looks decent and gets you back and forth like you want until you get that vehicle that you deem your perfect vehicle!
Thank you my friend for sharing that great idea. I have a similar repair to do and will give it a try . A great cheap and quick way of fixing a hole without the cost of welding . Regards from the UK .
@@undergroundbuilds7 hi, i didnt see how you treated inside of the rust metal? I usually try to brush with steel brush as much as I can, then i spray it with a lot of antirust, and spray with paint from inside. After its done, I use your method of sealer. Altough I use metal mesh for holes.
@@uroskostic8570 I pretty much do the same process as you and use a rust converter, then let that dry 24 hrs then apply paint or under coating depending on what I’m doing
So glad I saw this video this morning after watching so many videos on rust repair now after seeing this video ( using wax paper brilliant by the way) I feel more comfortable for someone doing this for the first time now so much appreciated!!! I'm going to try this on my one wheel well on my truck today !!!
The King is back on the tube! Glad to see you! Love that fiberglass putty😁 40 years ago, the shop I worked at made us braze metal patches over the holes, and then cover it with Duraglass. I was glad to skip the brazing part later on. Good vid!
@@undergroundbuilds7 thanks! This RU-vid stuff is a pain sometimes. The sound just quit on my 4K hat cam, and my iPhone is acting up, too. I recorded my first welding demo, and there’s no sound☹️
Well done. Wax paper trick was brilliant, solves the shaping problem straight away, and will come off, unlike aluminum foil. The fiberglass should hold together better than Bondo, which is too heavy, and will fall out of a big hole or bottom repair in one big chunk. Better for minimizing future rust than spray foam, by a long shot.
I like your effort to repair the rust on your vehicle. It might help your repair look a lot more professional if you looked at some of the auto body repair videos on youtube and then do your repair. I looked at auto body repair videos on youtube for 2 or 3 months before I fixed my rocker panel rust on my truck. I wanted it to look like it was done by a real auto body repair shop and when I finished, it looks really good. The wax paper concept is a great idea. I like anything that I do to look perfect. Thanks for your video, it gave me a few more repair ideas that I had not thought of. Good job!
Heyll Yazz. Thanks for the tips man. I'm working on a square body daily driver. Not a show truck, but I do care about it. Thanks for all your time, an tips. I'm a mechanic not a body man. I need all the help I can get.
Really love the video. Saw a similar video where the same method was used. May I ask you though do you think using some fiber glass sheeting would it help strengthen the area in addition to the bongo mesh they sell?
Yeah i like the spray foam way slightly better because it fills the hole completely and you can easily shave it down before you put fiberglass mesh on top of it.
Bro!!! Thank you. This is right on time. I see the link. What type of angle grinder, sander and compressor do you recommend? I am working on my project car and I want to avoid the bad products if possible. Thanks! I have a 1963 Lincoln Continental.
I'm thinking if I took my car to a bump shop and they did this fix hell I wouldn't know if it looked damn good too me.. Man I'm going this myself and save my thoughts and me lots of damn money..
I was gonna put fiberglass putty in the rust hole on this ‘72 Buick Electra, but Bear Budget Garage was wanting to see my flux core technique, and I’m reviewing the $101 welder I got, so I put a patch in before fiberglass putty. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ngYmUczsRMY.html
Just as a side question, What is the material you use to make those covers for the wheels to protect them from overspray?? I see alot of shops use them but I can never tell if it's old blankets or a different kind of cloth.
great video UPK. quick question is there a benefit to actually cutting the rusted metal back to solid metal before doing your fix? i want to spruce up the wheel wells of my '06 odyssey.
I do that type repair myself. I'm not about to do $3K worth of bodywork on a 5K pickup. But I don't want to look like junkyard Joe when I go to a customers house.
@@undergroundbuilds7 I like to mask off the lower half and paint the bottom matt black. Then I slap on a rubber molding and it hides the paint line. It looks good and clean.
I put 2 inch masking tape on cardboard, mix the duraglass right on top of the tape, spread it out over the sheet, and slap it on. The tape pops right off the Dglass, and it’s already fairly well shaped.
I had a body man show me this years ago that was making good money fixing cars on car lots, it’s a few different ways of doing it and I like learning how others such as yourself do things
Maybe you missed it in the video but I showed what I used in the video and mixed it, basically the whole process on how to do it and there is a link to the product that I used. I appreciate you watching the video!
Rust free😂😂 Youleft al the rust untreated inside. Looks good now but over 1 year and the rust will show up again. Quick patch but Al the work for nothing.
Don’t get me wrong, it was not meant negatively. I commented before I saw the whole vid. Yes your right, for a quick fix it will do, but it’s such a pity for the work. Some rust converter and wax spray would extend the repair so you enjoy a longer period of the work you have done. I know cost would be a little higher but then you wouldn’t have to do the same job again on a short base
Great content. Not everybody wants welded patch panels. You gotta bend a little and give them a solution. May not last forever, but is presentable for the near future. Its only temporary until it lasts. Love the videos. I may have to ask your expertise on a fiberglass fill and paint blend over some headlight pockets. I wish you were was local to Dallas.
I agree with you, sometimes you just need a quick fix to get you back on the road and won’t cost you a lot of money and this is just a alternative that people can take. Email me what you’re working on if you want and maybe we can get it figured out!
