Greg Sheehan is one of Australia's premier and most innovative percussionists widely regarded internationally as a leader in his field. As a performer, he is significantly represented in the last three decades of Australian contemporary music as both a live band member and studio musician on hundreds of recordings.
Greg has created a melody from the first 8 numbers in the Fibonacci sequence and performs it in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House for TEDxSydney 2013.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I applaud the brave new style of rhythmic hand clapping that was used in this piece. The knuckle to palm technique or the "half reverse clap" was a bold move, but as we can all hear and see, it pays of in a powerful way.

You have zero idea of what your talking about. The hand reverses to signal the new measure, because of the odd divisions.

“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” - Nikola Tesla To understand anything non-physical, one needs a certain level of creativity and imagination. Frequencies are hard to see but easy to feel.

thanks for reïnventing the hot water capt'n obvious. so if you take any sequence of numbers, and use them to pick out notes from a scale that was designed to sound harmonious, in a musical system that was designed to sound harmonious... guess what, you get a harmony... if i play 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 in the scale of C major i get a magically harmoniously sounding C-major scale, therefor the numbers from 1-8 are magical. So if you play fibonnacci, or any other numeric sequence in an allready harmonious key, it will sound harmonious

@jackie.p6891
@jackie.p6891 6 лет назад
if that's supposed to faze me, you're sadly mistaken. I listen to ted talks because they are interesting and informative, this one is not, it is an empty discovery. I have no ambition of giving a ted talk, especially after i've just seen someone waste 8 minutes of my time saying something that is in essence implicit in music theory, Also after the recent censoring of an artist ted talk about censorship, i tend not to take it that seriously anymore

This is just basic maths . 60 is the Least Common Multiple (LCM) of 3, 4 and 5, of course the next unanimous clap would happen after 60 claps. I don't see any reason to applaud such a simple fact. It has nothing to to with Fibonacci either. Issa scam.
@DerpMuse
@DerpMuse 6 лет назад
the harmonics of the spheres follow the fibonacci sequence though. pythagoras invented music theory and knew about phi millennia before leonardo de pisa(fibonacci) found it by accident finding it in optimal breeding ratios.
@benjaminmoldrup6286
@benjaminmoldrup6286 6 лет назад
It is music, not a simple fact. :) The clapping was a demonstration of something called polyrythms and they are very fun to play, because so many people can cooperate to create something bigger. It feels god man.
