Paige Hardaway from Netflix's "Atypical". She is ALWAYS panicking about how people see her, she's a massive people pleaser and not to mention that time she approached a teacher to say "hey, I turned your class learning into a rap song to make it more interesting. It goes like this...." She's so hyperactive. Both in the stereotypical sense and in other more realistic ways. She's the opposite of Sam's Autistic neurotype but opposites attract and he's smitten over her! (Not sure if Paige is canonically an ADHDer but who knows?) Also I found out recently that I have both ADHD and ASD, do you have a video or plans to talk more in depth on how that experience is for you and how us both-ers can work on both? It's all so overwhelming right now.

I love hearing about neurodivergent headcanons. It's so fun to take control of the characters seen in media and connect them to neurodivergence. You also make a DEEPLY important point about medication. Because we rely on the media we see, it's important to talk about good experiences and bad experiences with medication, and different experiences with neurodivergence.

I think that Todd Chavez in BoJack Horseman is also an ADHDer. He’s creative, tends to hyper focus on things and finds a way to channel them into success. Mr. Peanutbutter also seems to be ADHD coded too.

I have ADHD and the difference in my day if I don’t take my medication is pretty stark. If I forget my medication my mind is running all day leaving me exhausted without having accomplished much (unless the hyper focus took over then goodbye for at least 2 days) but I also find I’m more likely to also suffer overstimulation on those days. It’s all still somewhat new for me as I was only diagnosed with ADHD and OCD few months ago, and I’m still in the process for getting screened for ASD as well since I have texture and sensory difficulties. I really hope the stigma around ADHD meds changes, because for the first time in my life I can focus better at work, I can stay on task better, and it quiets the hum of rushing thoughts and sounds in my brain for part of the day.

In an anime called K-On! I noticed two characters named Yui and Ritsu and related to them immensely and I’ve head cannoned them for myself that they both are ADHD. Yui represents more of the inattentive presentation and Ritsu represents more of the hyperactive presentation. They both hyperfocus on music, and it’s especially noticeable in Yui since she’s the main character and you can see that she completely avoids homework just to practice on her new electric guitar falling asleep on top of her homework or with her guitar on her bed. Though Yui is written as a pretty extreme “airhead,” despite the extremities I see that she may be ADHD and I love her and Ritsu so much!

(Almost) everyone in Malcolm in the Middle. Hal clearly has it and has passed it onto the kids. Reece and Francis clearly struggle with attention and impulsive behaviour, and Malcolm and Dewey are both clearly 2e - they still struggle with impulsivity, but are very smart. One of the moments I most relate to is when Francis has to revise and they remove everything from his room and he still gets distracted despite wanting to work.

i'm pretty sure Mabel Pines from 'Gravity Falls' has ADHD, as well as Star from 'Star vs the forces of evil'. Klaus Hargreeves from The Umbrella Academy! Also, I think Anne Shirley from the new show, Anne with an E is both autistic and ADHD. About Jake... how many times has he pulled an all nighter and is like “I didn’t sleep, but I solved your case”? Honestly, I feel that
@watchingthebees

@Luke Hinds Signing channel yes! I relate so much to Anne, it’s actually a little bit weird because she’s literally me. Even before I knew I was autistic and ADHD, she was the character I related to the most. Then after I got diagnosed, I watched the show again and realised that, naturally, Anne was both of these things as well... a hyperlexic and hyperverbal autistic and ADHD girl with an extremely overactive imagination, emotional regulation issues and trauma (it’s like I’m defining myself hahah). Also, Matthew is definitely autistic too, which I think it’s why they get along so well and understand each other, Matthew’s presentation of autism is very similar to my dad’s (he’s autistic too) which is another weird coincidence

As a man currently under diagnosis at 35, I haven't felt so close to any other film character as Gary King in the "The Worlds End", British comedy I've watched almost decade ago. Simon Pegg deliberately or not, he really nailed life struggles this condition can bring upon your life, especially when you're left unaware and alone with it. In other films ADHD is usually shown as harmless cartoonish character quirk, which only enforces stereotypes and misinformation, and people like formelly myself live in ignorance or denial for most of their live thanks to that.

My ex girlfriend left me because she thought I was a lazy and irresponsible guy, and even compared me to Phil from modern family. 27 years of my life with undiagnosed adhd, harassed by people left and right, labeled as a "slacker". Finally I went to a PROPER psychologist (one that didn't say the same thing as everyone, like "lazy" "not motivated"), then a neurologist, and now I'm under treatment and I have more knowledge about myself, and that's liberating. Too bad so many people judged me for something that I didn't have control. Including someone that "loved" me.

I think Nick Miller from New Girl also fits that list. Another more recent example is Evelyn from Everything Everywhere All At Once. Daniel Kwan (one half of the duo who wrote and directed it) even got his diagnosis after he realized he had written Evelyn as a character with undiagnosed ADHD. I also wish we saw more people of color that fit into that category in media overall. It would be nice to see more representation all around because it really does make a difference.

Three characters I think are definitely ADHDers are Cricket Green from Big City Greens, Bloo from Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, and Speks from Cosmonious High. Cricket leans pretty heavily into the ‘bad kid’ stereotype, and is similar to Bart in character. A lot of his actions lead to some pretty drastic stuff - this is heavily shown in the recent movie, where most of the conflict comes from his obsession with making the yearly vacation more entertaining. The argument with Bill at that one point, as well as Cricket realizing just what he’d gotten his family into, really stuck with me. I’d also like to mention the episode Quiet, Please, where the whole episode is about his inability to remain quiet in a library due to lack of stimulation. Bloo is a bit of a stretch, but does seem to have a few traits as well; most notably is his impulsive and often catastrophic behavior. In fact, almost all of the conflicts in the show are caused by him just being a jerk for seemingly no reason. He also has an obsession with paddleball, though he gets frustrated by his own lack of skill and rages instead of practicing. There was also the episode where he was home alone, where the first half of the episode was him trying to get someone else to pick up a chip, and then doing random stuff to keep himself stimulated. Not the best character, or the most accurate, but definitely a candidate. Speks is probably the most on-point and relatable of the three. She talks unusually fast compared to the other characters, often says random things in conversations, and has quite a few stimming idle animations. There’s also a whole side quest where she just can’t remember where she put things, even when it would be easy to see them. They even including her getting tired rather than energized when sprayed with the in-universe coffee equivalent, a small detail I’m happy they included. She’s not overly energetic or in any way extremely problematic, just iconic. Love her.

Gon Freecss from the anime/manga hxh might be neurodivergent (most likely adhd, tho some single minor autism signs) -Hyperactive/has a lot of energy -Impulsivity and recklessness -Often hyperfocuses of something /a goal and then forgets everything around and then as a result unflexible (when he has set his mind to something it s hard to make him budge basically) -Has a hard time regulating his emotions and often makes choices based on them/emotional kind of -Seen as weird by others, which is something some neurodivergent folks might relate to -Difficulty keeping quiet/talking out of turn (&often really honest and just speaking what comes to his mind) -Carelessness and sometimes poor organisation skills -Low frustration tolerance -Often seen as oblivious/not always quite checking what is going on -Curious -Idk if that s much of an argument, but he s seemingly not that good in school/math and easily bored/distracted I think -He s rather childish for his age and often acting a bit younger than he is (he s around 13) -His thinking is seen and portrayed as rather special or different, by characters in the show and the viewers -Bonus (spoiler) The whole story is about how he impulsivly left his home for a goal, leaving school, and then afterwards just coming back and getting forced to catch up to school, idk, seems very adhd to me And personally as someone with adhd, I just claim him ig

Another character who canonically has ADHD is Stiles from Teen Wolf! Teen wolf is an incredibly cheesy and kind of mediocre show and it's been a hot while since I watched any of it (I never got through it, only of one and a half seasons), but I always loved how he was portrayed and in my memory it's one of the best portrayals of ADHD I've ever seen - or at least the one my teenage ADHD brain related to the most. I don't think there's any major talk of him having it, but there's comments from time to time about him taking medication for it (for example him being obviously hyperactive and him making a comment along the lines of "and before you ask, yes, i HAVE taken my meds today") and he shows symptoms throughout the entire show. He hyperfixates on topics pretty easily, he's remarked to be hyperactive sometimes to his detriment, but none of his friends see it as a sort of flaw of him. It's nothing they shame him for, they kind of just accept it as a trait. While, yeah, some people may see it as an "ADHD is a superpower !" trope, I actually just think it's really refreshing because there IS the possibility of a nuanced portrayal in between negating the struggles of ADHD and only showing at as a form of "torture porn" where everything has to be a struggle and you can't ever be okay. Because he takes meds and is generally fine, which is a possibility. I can really relate to him because of it, because while yeah you can kind of be the annoying hyperactive kid, at the same time you can do just fine and the ability to focus deeply can help you! I'm fine on meds and I'm not some kind of non-functional suffer story, I'm not less than, I'm not disabled without some chance of functioning and however some people on TikTok may want to portray it - for a lot of people there's the potential of functioning just fine on meds or with other types of (professional) help. Also, he never becomes a supernatural being, contrary to every other main character, which I see as a refusal to have him "fixed" and suddenly able to compensate for everything - and it is a fucking good thing. Aaaand I've rambled about this for way too long. Teen wolf may be a shitshow of half naked men playing teenage boys and a cheesy supernatural teen drama, but I'll always think fondly of Stiles and the way he was portrayed.

I have been struggling to find engaging resources online and I am at a loss for how to view ODD healthily through the lens of neurodiversity. I have been struggling with emotional dysregulation for the last year more than any other time in my life and have only recently been introduced to the possibility of ODD. If anybody has some good resources they could suggest that would be lovely as well. I love you and your channel, thank you for all that you do - it helps so much. - Tjaden Marie

I honestly wish I was dead instead of having ADHD... It's a curse that ruined my life, and what ever help is available is mostly a money making scam...

Hey, there are kind people out here you just gotta find them, my immediate family are all adhd and I’m also dyslexic on top of it, it’s hard to feel different but it helps to know why at least for me it does :) Please don’t die if you die there are less of us out there and that would be very sad :( // I know it you posted awhile ago but if you still feel this way I want to remind you of lollipops, and bubble wrap, and good food, and cute lol plant babies :)
