Coldplay was one of the first bands that I discovered on my own as a kid. Their early records have played an important role in my development as a songwriter. Originally I had planned to perform ‘Parachutes’ in it’s entirety with my band in Toronto, when live playing disappeared from the realm of possibility I shifted gears and decided to take the idea into studio land. My pal and co-producer Kris Ulrich and I began the project in January 2021 just outside of Riding Mountain National Park where my family has a little cabin. The frigid outside temperature and roaring wood stove set the tone for a cozy and intimate take on a classic album. With the help of friends and collaborators in Winnipeg, the record quickly took shape. It’s tricky trying to re-produce an album that is so well done and well loved but I’m really proud of where the album ended up living.The addition of some wonderful guest vocalists (Begonia, Lizzy McAlpine and Dizzy’s Katie Munshaw) gave us further opportunity to explore new territory and present these songs in an interesting new light.
