I struggle with drills like this where the start positions look nothing like a hockey game. In any game would your defenders allow 2 attackers to get to the baseline unmarked, and would your midfielders allow those attackers on the sidelines to have 22 metres or more headstart?
Thank you firstly for the support of the channel. Your question is valid and I will try and answer your question to the best of my ability. Some of my drills I do i think about situation that will happen sometimes in a hockey game, and with this specific drill you will get situation where you will get pressured in the midfield like that and if you can be work on this situation you will get times where the Forwards will be 22 meters ahead of you. You as a coach train these situations for when you get to this in a game your players know how to react and make good decisions because they train it. Also most coaches only have certain spaces on a pitch to train so most of the starting position will not look anything in a game, but telling your players this happened in a game and from our starting point is where we go forward and work on outcomes that possible can happen in a game.
