I love the coe trucks. It's screaming for a roll back bed and whatever you can stuff under the hood. But really to get that roadworthy and drive it home? Very ambitious goal!

My Dad moved our family twice in an old green one that looked so similar, but with a full box. It wouldn't go over 45mph unless it was downhill and with the wind!

I wish my wife had her enthusiasm for finding diamonds in the rough in the field. :D There's just something that draws me to these forgotten relics. Maybe it's seeing the potential or having a better visual of the vehicle's story. Perhaps it's simply the fact that it's more easily attainable than the pristine show cars that are beyond my reach. Anyways, I actually enjoy walking through an old car yard more than checking out a car show. Best of luck with the project! :)

I have ALLLLLLWAYS wanted a COE.... Way back before they were cool to most, I wanted one to build a ramp truck. Now's your chance to have real COOL!!!!!!

I live in a small town in Oregon. I rescued one of these from a field here locally. It was a 51 mostly complete with motor and trans and in good shape. I just didnt want it to sit there and rot away. I couldnt restore it because I was pretty much broke at the time. The guy gave it to me for free. It cost me $100 to tow it to my house. I listed it on a COE forum and sold it for $100. I just wanted it to go to a home where it would be restored. I also spread the word of another I knew about in a nearby town. Also sitting in a field. It disappeared from the field soon after. So I'd like to think I "rescued" it as well. I can't wait to see how this project goes!

I will be on the hunt for a pair of early/mid '40s Dodge COEs. Preferably one to rescue and one only worthy for parts. This way I won't feel guilty of some customization. just for creature comforts, and a little modernization mods. One would be a one ton chassis with 4 wheel disk, 4x4, and a air suspension. I'm looking to make a goose neck / fifth wheel tow rig. I definitely would not want to change something all original. Thought I'd let ya know since you have an eye open. ;)

@@rustedratchetgarage6788 I look at it this way. Some are all about the little paper rectangles .... money. This honorable individual rescued a rare gem and wanted nothing more than to see it go to a good home. I recently bought a 170yr old farm house. I beat out some one with a cash purchase price who wanted to renovate all. The seller wanted the home to stay original as possible. They were not about money. My hats off to these rare breed of folk.

I love COE trucks. If you make it into a ramp truck, I'd add a big block Chevy or a diesel. You will need torque more the HP. Really looking forward to the project. 460 in the '61 would also be great. I have a friend with a short bed with a 460.

I know it's been done but a ramp truck. Dove tail the back and bag the rear suspension so it sits down and no ramps needed to load. Or convert to front wheel drive and get the bed even lower.

Lotsa options here, this is going to be fun to watch. Seems a shame to work hard to get it running there and then pull it apart again. I helped a cfriend do a Ford COE many years ago. Friend insisted in gas power, he put a BBC in it with a T-400. Engine behind the cab no matter what you power it, will make it a heck of a lot cooler and quieter in the cab, and if you design the ramp wedge right much easier to work on as well. I would scrounge the boneyard for a common rail out of a 3rd gen Dodge. IF you could find an 07 Dodge Ram 3500 dually in the boneyard or otherwise as a donor vehicle you would be set pretty well. Prefer would be 07, 325 HP 600 lb tq. bone stock. Adapt to an Allison. Use the Dodge dually rear end, with Disc Brakes from the factory. You can put the radiator up front where it was designed to go, or in front of the engine behind the cab., then you could convert the space under the hood to a baggage compartment. AC condenser up front for sure. Set it up on air so that when it is time to load the GTO you can drop the wedge to the ground. Same color as Roxy. Flying Sparks logo on doors... Can see it in my mind now.

A Cumming diesel for car hauling or a stroked 350, 383, low end torque cam with EFI. Steep gears with an overdrive transmission would make in travel down the road for the long haul trips. Clean up the rust and put that Rino liner on the cab.

Car Hauler for sure. Finish the interior. Cummins diesel, leave the patina, wipe down with lindseed oil, no clear-coat. Check out Chevs of the 40's for all the interior parts, glass, rubber door seals, windshield rubber or most anything for this truck. I suppose a 800hp LS would work. that way you could have Vintage Air. Nah... go with the diesel.

There was a "570" on the hood of the Chevy. I'm not really into Chevys, but they used thousands in their models back then, I'm going to guess it's a model 5700, from the late '40s- early '50s. Cool project, go for it! The Ford pickup looks to be a "unibody". Only made in the early '60s (61-63?) Truck box and cab were one piece, hence name "unibody." Kind of rare I think, that needs a restoration. Cool old trucks!
