Thank you for the side by side comparison from three machines, love my D2 especially on the beach, I hope Mindlab fixes the nail issue showing as a good VDI and tones in future updates, Still waiting to see what XP can do on full tones and pin pointer issues in next update and they sure are taking a long time on it, nice to see the legend as sorted it’s aluminium problems out next to good targets ect with latest update 🥳🥳

The MCore was showing iron to me on the ones where you actually show the screen but I have over 150 hrs on it and over 30 years detecting. If you are hitting the upper or lower regions on the screen trace, even slightly, turn 90 on it and switch to all metal and you will hear it scratch and grunt iron. Walk away unless you are chasing iron. BTW I do have a D2 and both are great machines.

I have been Detecting for 40 years lol and that philosophy while works 80% of the time I have dug coins with the manticore that only hit one direction. I’ve also dog coins with a manticore that appear to be iron but it’s a deep coin. I only hunt in all metal.

I ordered the manticore and expect it in about a week or so. After watching these videos I’m heartbroken. The videos make it appear as if the D2 is more is more accurate and gets better depth while the manticore seems to have a problem misidentifying iron.

I think those low single frequencies always work best especially if you're coin shooting. Maybe if you're looking for smaller jewelery the higher frequencies might be of an advantage but I always liked the low frequencies for coin shooting. One of my old water machines way back in the days was a Fishers 1280X. It was a really low frequency machine and I noticed it was a silver dime killer on land. It stayed stable in most places and I was digging a lot of old coins but it's only issue was it was hard to ID non ferrous targets being it wasn't really designed to coin shoot on land and it got heavy after a while. But if I put up with digging up everything (aluminum crap) it was killing deep silver.
@danblankenship5744
@danblankenship5744 Год назад
With the Manticore falsing on deep iron, I have seen others double-check these awesome-sounding signals with single-frequency modes and the iron shows its true nature. One other symptom is when the target beep isn't happening exactly on top of the pinpointed center. The beep tends to be slightly delayed, beeping on the far edge (in the halo) as you swing over the target. The Equinox 800 will struggle to get as deep as these new monsters, 4 kHz mode Park-1 might help get those extra deep silvers.
@DetectorComparisons
@DetectorComparisons Год назад
Totally understood about Target centering when it comes to a false-positive on iron. Even with the D2 I always check the all-metal pinpoint to make sure I'm right on top of it before switching back to discriminate and checking again. In this video you can see Jimmy dead centers his Targets in all metal pinpoint and then still gets a sweet response. In most cases when the Manticore is fooled on deep iron, it is a bent nail that is not dead center in the hole. Next time out, when the Manticore hears a good deep Target that the D2 reads as iron, we will change the frequency on the Manticore from multi to 4 khz to see if the signal changes

Pinpoint behavior using Manticore on suspect targets is a key imo. Iron gives more broad pinpoint on average. Coins more narrow pinpoint.
@DetectorComparisons
@DetectorComparisons Год назад
In general yes, but many times when there are multiple targets around, it's hard to get a real accurate pinpoint so you have to go by the discriminate response. In a couple of the false positives, you can hear Jimmy pinpointing and it sounded pretty tight

OUTSTANDING series of vids for comparison/contrast analysis purposes. non-biased and informational VS soooooooo many other tubers are CLEARLY trying to sell you something....so THANK YOU for laying this shit down straight. i was a minelab guy and loved to death my Etrac and then Eq600 found tons of stuff at myriad sites thought to have been hunted into extinction but a few people would not leave me alone about the damn D2 so after listening to them chirp till my head was exploding.....i broke down and paid up for the D2. i was not wild about the idea of french engineering first off....and when i used the darn thing the 1st 4-5-6 times, i was super angry//felt like i got jobbed and ripped off. i missed my minelabs so badly and had to literally FORCE myself to keep using this fickle french POS!! why the hell can't the french stick to cooking and fashion for gods sakes is all i kept thinking.....BUT THEN....through trial and error and perseverance, it started to click and make some sense. i started going back to ALL of the sites that i completed wiped out with the Minelab machines and was blown away by how much was left at some of them!!!! i would have bet my house that there was nothing left!!!! but there was ALOT left and i had killed these site with the NOX and Etrac!! did very very well.....but the D2 started grabbing stuff deep and close to lots of trash that the ML machines missed even going lowwww and slowwww turned up full bore!!! so this video points this phenomenon out very clearly and concisely. some sites...my Etrac and NOX got almost everything and the D2 found very limited leftovers....but other sites(obviously the ones with lots of IRON and trash)....the D2 slayed and knocked me on my ass with its performance. so the upshot is that this troica//trilogy//triumvirate of videos has confirmed to me that there is literally NOT a better machine available than the D2 and i already have that baby mastered!! i found over 300 silver coins in 2022 predominantly with the D2 and stuff back to the 1600s over a foot down.....

Settings can have massive effects....I wouldn't come to a conclusion based off of one comparison video. People are still trying to figure out the best way to adjust the Manticore for the different conditions. I've seen comparison videos that show the Manticore to be superior over the Deus when it comes to iron falsing issues. Iffy Signals seems to think the Manticore is far superior in this regard.

Another great video Carter. great to see Big John joining too. I have a proposition, being I have over a decade with the Etrac I want to do a comparsion with the Core and D2. I want to see if the Etrac truly cant hear some targets. would make a good video I told Jimmy that. Also as I told Jimmy I go by sound like he does not numbers and Im not happy with the Iron false on the core. I like the D2 from these videos but still want to see what the old FBS has on these machines. In the favorite park I pulled indians down 10-12 with the Etrac and they came in good.

I enjoy your comparison videos. You are really in tune with the Deus II at this point. It will be interesting to see what you find when you have had a chance in using the Manticore for a while. In the comparison with the Manticore, was it running in all metal mode, or was the hole checked in all metal mode? The 800 can fool you in trashy areas if you do not run all metal. The single frequency trick is necessary in my area (so many power lines and transformers in suburban streets). Sometimes 10hz is stable enough but usually you need to go 15hz-40hz. Both machines are good in so many ways!

Have you guys tried temporarily cranking up the sensitivity on the Manticore when it's detecting a target it's calling good...but the D2 is calling iron? I do that with the 800 on the beach when I get a good but deep/soft sounding target. I crank up the sensitivity a couple of notches and if it's good it gets stronger but if it's junk it starts sounding and displaying nonferrous.

Sounds like all you need to do is adjust the discrimination pattern on the Manticore to help discriminate iron better. A U.K. detectorist, can't remember his name, said it was a simple fix. He just changed the upper gray pattern by bringing it down a bit. Sounds like a good idea. If the factory pattern is hitting on iron, change it. Makes sense enough to try.

$2000 detectors that can't discriminate ? it's the same old story. any detector is only as good as how heavily the area has already been detected and picked previously. the more it's been picked, the less good. I'll give them this, the new detectors are smoother on what they do find. but it begs the question, what would an old Whites 6000 do there in the hands of an experienced detectorist. hmmm....

As pointed out at the end of the video, Jimmy still had four silver coins while I had found three silver coins, as we all know you can't control what you pull out especially since we both dig everything that sounds good and deep. With that in mind, what matters is the number of target's that you find. Both machines pulled out a pile of coins in worked out areas. I don't think it was me that outclassed Jimmy because if I was swinging the Manticore, those deep iron signals would have fooled me as well. We still have more testing and tweaking to do
