Thanks for smashing that like button. I really enjoyed this video. It was great getting out if only for a couple of miles. This series is intended to be the foundation for upcoming videos where we will start to move towards using this equipment to execute meaningful emcomm and public service activities. The EmComm Tools project is starting to use this equipment and software suite to make digital message passing field expedient. My hope is that people can see what's possible on VHF/UHF outside of simplex and repeater. 73

A great setup . I hooked up my old VX-150 exactly like you did with the FT-60 and Digirig it performed well . I hooked up my young FT-70DR same way and it showed vertical noise on the waterfall using UZ7HO and it wouldn't key up or do anything used the same settings that I used previously with VX-150. What could I be missing? Anybody else with a different Yaesu HT acting differently in the same environment with a correct acting Yaesu Model....?

Great Videos. Have you tried Winlink with the Ft60 and Digirig. I have not been successful yet. I turned off SQL and Rx Battery Save. When I the Digirig using headphones it seems to work. I get a force disconnect. Using the KISS for TNC Type.

Yes, it works fine. I use this setup to check into Winlink Wednesday. I haven't tried VARA, but I have no issues with 1200 bps packet. The audio levels are critical to get right. I found calibration easier under APRS first. I would start first with getting the audio right for decoding (RX) and then encoding (TX). Then, right down your settings for later reference.

@@donnawurster1044 I'm glad that you figured it out. Getting the audio levels right is a bit more involved on HT's. You may want to keep a "doping" chart with your settings (volume position on radio, radio settings, and audio levels on your computer). Have a blast.

Why not send messages via APRS? What's this buy you over that?
@TheTechPrepper
@TheTechPrepper 2 года назад
I am a heavy APRS user, but it's very limited compared to sending data using flmsg. 1. APRS is limited to a very small character limit, whereas flmsg is limited by the length of time you're willing to transmit. 2. We're using the MT63 modem which encodes the data redundantly and is forgiving of audio levels, so the data will get through here when APRS would fail. 3. The data received on the remote station is an actual CSV text file. Can't do this with APRS. 4. flmsg is suited for sending structured data where as APRS is not. Imagine a scenario where I wanted to track a larger list of data, like runners that did not finish. Let's say 50 runners that dropped out. I can do this in single request, where as I would have to send 50 or so individual messages via APRS. Good question.

So you have your laptop riding alongside you to the right . You happened to notice a friends callsign Icon come up on the screen running your APRSIS32 software and UZ7HO soundcard modem. You click on the callsign and it comes up with the raw data and has a nice "CHAT" function icon you click on that and a message chat window pops up with your callsign and his callsign you type in your message from the keyboard hit send and instantly you send your message to your buddy out there somewhere in the world over RF. Internet just shut down for some crazy reason you still got APRS relaying the messages all over the world. How could you go wrong with being a ham and digitally mastering your world you live in...?
