Nice modern sound...slightly more bright. I have a 1963 smaller sized Ramirez flamenco which has the traditional sound.

How do the (shorter scale/skinnier neck width) modern-day Ramirez 1a's compare in sound with the tradtional Ramirez 1A's of the 1960's and 70's?

@@joseph8947 It's hard to tell comparing them online. I could buy a current model and switch back and forth between it and my 1990 1A. But it would be simpler for someone who has tried both to give their opinion.

Unfortunately I’ve only had the chance of trying a new one and a 1993. I’d say the old one is kind of like listening to an old record. There’s something familiar about the sound that feels like home. The new Ramirez was loud and bold but not too bright. Definitely a fine guitar and I’m not sure why people my age (19) think of them as old people guitars because they are really great and I definitely played more expensive guitars that were worse that day. Overall a new Ramirez still retains that good Spanish sound but they’re not quite as mellow as the older ones probably due to ageing and maturing.

Modern day Ramirez guitars are more playable, more versatile and revealing instruments, with a wider tonal palette and expressiveness. Which is really good. With the right setup, they can be played across different genres and produce a variety of timbres and moods. They allow more, and as such, the player can't follow the old lazy approach "that the guitar will do all the work" regardless of clumsy setup and mediocre playing.
