A good friend of mine from college turned me onto this band many years ago. I was a metalhead, he wasn't, but he played this for me one day saying it was "about as close to metal as I get." We jammed to them on numerous occasions afterward. James passed away 20 years ago today. R.I.P. brother.
I always loved it, it has power & aliveness... And I really don't get people who don't love it, yet if everyone did, & it were mainstream.. that'd be.. so strange..
It would be cringe if it became popular. Kinda like what happened to punk. Went from the Misfits and Dead Kennedys to Blink 182 and Green Day. I dont mind it being a niche taste to be honest, plus its one of those things that when you meet someone at a party or a bar and they love the same weird bands as you. Insta best friend for the night.
My Dads the beardy bloke at the beginning and the one riding the horse called Corrieander, the little one with the Top hat was my brother Lee Upson (deceased) the dreadlocked mutant is my bro Darran Upson, I still see Nod and Paul Wright now and then.
Well he talks in confusion And he faults your point of view You talk about his apparition And he talks, I hear him laughing at you Contamination and radiation Let it crawl while the city sleeps Your turn to lay for bait for a while Now you're melting through your burning fields And all my people say oh Stop! When he talks Connected scars reopen A thousand fingers Reach out for you We don't feel no contamination We don't feel no contamination We don't feel no contamination We don't feel no contamination Oh keep talking You're a hunter, I'm a wolf Yeah, keep talking I'm the preacher you're a fool Contamination and radiation Let it crawl while the city sleeps Your turn to lay for bait for a while Now you're melting through your burning fields That's when my people say oh We don't feel no contamination We don't feel no contamination We don't feel no contamination We don't feel no contamination We don't feel no contamination We don't feel no contamination We don't feel no contamination We don't feel no contamination Radiation, contamination Radiation, contamination Radiation, contamination Radiation
All these years never knew the lyrics; I thought burning fields was 'buttered figs' - I knew it was unlikely, but when you want to sing along you go for the sounds.. 😂 Didn't see the video till RU-vid; God bless the digital age! 80's had some great Alt' music, Pubs, gigs - & better, laxer, civilised UK licensing laws - but I like these times more. Except for being old. 😂 A luxury not all my lovely Alt/rocker/Goth friends got; RIP/RIG xxx
im only 21...and i love these kinds of bands(the cult, the damned, sisters of mercy, ect)...i dont know anyone else that even knows who they are...its sad really
I win cos I'm 51.. 😂 - Since I was a teen I knew most people didn't know about the music I liked - Sisters, Danielle Dax, New Model Army, Gun Club etc - but I've realised it isn't sad, it's just that only the few have ears & that's how it's always been, & it's fine, 'cos you can always find your tribe :) x
I am likely the only Elder Goth who loves Neph, lol...and even the whole DustGoblin Aesthetic..and since i live in the Ozarks, i can rock the Aesthetic just fine and chill with ChristoGoths. Weird fekkin 50 years, FOR SURE! Hail Apophis!
This is great, been listening to this band for about 3(?) months.Moon child popped in my recs one day and I gave it a listen.Awesome band I’m so glad I clicked on it and gave it a listen.
This group was one of my favourite bands years ago and they still send shivers down my spine! They were awesome on disc and more so live. Makes me wish I was Dr Who
This is the very first Fields of the Nephilim song I ever heard. It was on a compilation album called Gothic Rock that I bought in the early 90’s, and I was hooked the moment I heard it.
I followed them until the early 90's....They were Gothic, not like some cheap Yank shite like Marilyn Manson, OR Evanesence, or whatever. The whole Gothic stuff was a youth sub culture, but somehow became a friggin 'lifestyle choice'. Here...this is a band in its heyday, prime. Nod's drumming is awesome
It could be a very cool character for the game Fall Out New Vegas. A post apocalyptic preacher living a scorched church in the middle of Wasteland. The look is perfect to include him in the game. BTW I like Fields of Nephilim as like Sister of Mercy , which is very similar in style.
I think Dawn Razor was the first Album I catually brought with my first wages as an adult....what an album....I loved Dust.....and I loved Burning the Fields EP.....Yes...I still remember, my youth
@Synnystr it wasn't steam punk. it was gothic rock with a post apocalyptic western vibe. they didn't glue clock parts to their hats. what is it that everything that has a 19th century vibe is labeled as some form of steampunk these days?
I convinced my best mate and a pub full of locals they had never heard of the nephilim is a tragic accident happened making the video and the lead singer was accidentally killed by hanging during the video, the pup watch and went quiet, when blue water came on and the lead singer star singing, the whole pub erupted in laughter and I got free beer all night this was over 30 years ago, and I had the videos on vhs ! Awesome memories
When I listened this in the 80's here in Brazil....it was like a Nuclear assault to my brains...(we didnt have internet...no UTube....had to hunt 4 new stuff)....I loved the message.......and surprising....listening to this now....I still admire your work mates!!! Cheers!> add me on Face!
Richard Stanley directed this vid and Blue Water and also put him in the movie Hardware and although I dabble in the Goth scene, following Stanley got me interested in Fields Of The Nephilim =D
To me best band ever after The Mission Uk and Bauhaus though with a clearly different sound. Not many other bands could create the feeling of speed and power and darkness all together. Their live performances though I never see them live look and sound awesome till today.
been doing a bit of research for my podcats as we are doing Hardware and I havent seen it since it came out....turns out that the lead singer please the desert wanderer and is actually supposed to be the same character as the director of hardware directed this video!! www.imdb.com/title/tt0099740/trivia?item=tr0719907
Hello Hannah I am also a Christian and have been for a long time I also love fields of the nephilhim. Yes they are not exactly pro Christian but songs like fallen and last exit for the lost touch me spiritually in a very possitive way. When I dance to those songs I feel in touch with God even if that is not what the band intended. BTW threatening people with meeting their maker does not enamour them towards asaid maker.
Fields of the Nephilim are the last truly big Goth band. Who took it as far as anyone did with centralised imagery and a determinedly inward looking sound.
Thank you nephilimfan for posting this but I want to give a shot out to Dresdendoll for original post taken down by youtube for copyright violation. I am sure the artists had nothing to do with this and am confident this amazing video will be up for all to see for a long time.
so i've listened to 4 song so far, their style just keeps going left and right the vocalist goes from different ranges every song..and it's not a bad thing at all.
I saw these guys back in 1989 at the original 9:30 club in Washington DC they double billed with Skinny Puppy and these guys opened the night. They scared the shit outta' me..I was all stoned and buzzed and didn't know what to think about these guys. I betcha Rob Zombie and Slip Knot listened to these guys.
