This video puts you in the driver's seat and shows you how difficult it is for lift truck operators to see pedestrians. It also outlines simple ways pedestrians can help lift truck drivers see them to avoid a serious or fatal accident. This is the full-length version; this video is also available in five segments. (1995)

This video is so well choreographed and masterfully made. A whole lot of effort went in to this. I appreciate it! Amazing work

Despite the video being 17 years old, it is highly effective and relevant today. I'm forwarding this to my safety team right now.

A possible slogan for the pedestrian traffic is: See! Be Seen! Be Safe!

Seems to me some of those near misses could have been prevented by the driver sounding his horn at the blind intersections.Some responsibility does fall on the driver.

The Number 1 rule of fork safety is to use your HORN!!! common sense and it would avoid a nasty accident. especially in a timber yard when visibilty is bad, and people are walking around....come on guys....!!! when i was being trained for a forklif licence, i was shown to use the horn and drive slowly in a busy area....

Many are electric so they are quiet. Use the horn just before blind intersections and go slow in heavy traffic areas. Pedestrians should stop and listen and look around corners before just walking out and stay to the sides. No job is so important that it can't wait or cost someone their life.

Great video. I find these recreations much more interesting than the animation videos. Placing the camera where the driver sits really shows the limited visibility. Getting the timing right for all of the scenes couldn't have been easy either. Nice job.

Modern FLTs have much better visibility,i drive a two tonne lift truck,its shocking how little my colleages who are certified think about safety when walking in lift truck territory

When working for Central Transport in the mid 2000’s a associate was hit by a forklift coming out of a trailer on the dock, result was a fractured skull of the man who was hit, he missed about 9 months of work ! I was lucky because I did long haul line haul and didn’t have to unload my trailers ! I always believed that any company putting drivers in the lift trucks where responsible for more incidents than companies using full time dock workers !!

Has anyone considered redesigning forklifts so that visibility is improved? (i.e. so that forklift drivers would only have to reorient themselves when picking up a load that would be positioned behind them driving.)

Good video. Who's the actor doing this, I've seen him on some things before, but just can't place him. It looks like everyone at Shell Scotford(Ft. Saskatchewan) has to watch this, or has been suggested to.

I assume there is a part 2 where the forklift driver is told HIS responsibilities as well? It's not all the fault of pedestrians.
@justice_1337
@justice_1337 6 лет назад
whofandb Dafuq if it isnt. Pedestrians are retarded and have no respect for what it is to drive a PIV which is why they do stupid shit like walk out from behind blind corners without stopping or looking.

All of these close call/accident demonstrations were easily preventable if the pedestrians just would consentrate on the forklifts and walkin, rather than chatting and watchin their toes or papers

Why the hell isn't there a better design for such a vehicle yet in the streets? Cameras, sensors, 360degree cockpits. And that's from 10 seconds thinking!

How about we just have all pedestrians anywhere on the site wear hard hats with rotating lights? The company has to accept some responsibility or just ban pedestrians all together. I've seen a lot of safety vids but this one is a bit backward.

Surely modern day trucks like these use cameras, screens, drones, etc to wholly negate visibility issues? RIght? I am baffled at how poorly these trucks are designed. Needs rework
@hotaru8309
@hotaru8309 3 года назад
They just keep reusing and modifying what they have, like beating an old workhorse to death, just hauling loads and pulling makeshift wagons until it's completely and utterly deceased. A new vehicle can be designed, better to have multiple for different cargo, but one size fits all is more convenient. The many vehicles already out there do the work well, but are not safe for staff. That's what prolongs this issue. Deceptively and boldly plain inconvenience.

A drone? You think someone driving a forklift full of stuff is safer if he's also operating a drone? Judas priest have you ever had a real job?
