Fife - 1967. 16mm B&W movie 

I immediately recognise this clip from the sign on the road from lochgelly to glencraig the beware of subsidence ,road sign,as a bairn I always wondered what that meant,but seeing this film it brings it all back.thanks so much for posting this it should be in a museum it is priceless.

Incredible how much the landscape around Lochgelly, Lochore and Ballingry has changed since then. Thank you for sharing

Fascinating movie. The pit with the men starting and finishing their shift is the Minto Colliery or Brighills as it was also known and also shows Bowhill colliery in the background. Later on shows the Mary pits in Lochore, now Lochore meadows park.

My dad worked here until it closed,he took me to the canteen one day and bought me a pack of old English spangles funny how things like this stick in your memory

3.52 is Melville Street then looking over the plots and the Bosel (Boswell Farm)

I worked there. First as a picking table laddie, with last women in the UK who did this kind of work. I went underground as a coupler and. Snibler. I worked the very last shift before it closed.

Yes I recognize the Mary pit, near the end of the film. It's such a pity that in those days hardly anyone had the means to record sights, sounds etc. I would love to see more footage like this, but it's all too scarce.

Great memories looking doon the Lysie Brae frae Lochgelly ower tae Bowhill Pit the Meedaes looked better then the mess they made of it as seen today, the big loch on left belonged to Ballingry fishing Club and on right was the big pond where free fishing and big troot I will get my Poem about what it was like then my playground whin a wis a bairn ain whein i warked in thi pits.
