Am with the federation on this, i play fifa player career mode and the amount of matches i have to play a season is crazy 🤦🏿‍♂️

It’s about time. As a fan of the sport, I fully support having less matches each season and taking much longer breaks. American football takes off 6-7 months. American baseball, basketball, and hockey all take off 4-5 months. Football needs to follow suit and add at least another extra month of literally zero matches. As a fan, I feel like the jeopardy of matches has slowly declined because there are too many matches all year round. The economic term is diminishing marginal returns. And it increasingly applies to football. Let them rest.

Can’t just blame fifa and uefa for this, the clubs are equally complicit for lobbying for all these changes as the extra games make them more money too. Players should bring up their complaints to their actual employers as well. They can always demand to not have to play every minute for their teams, squad rotations exist for a reason.

It was the clubs that petitioned UEFA to expand the Champions League and FIFA collaborated with the clubs to expand the Club World Cup also. They were not unilateral decisions. The players should also direct their angst towards their own clubs for being equally complicit.

They should force a 'player-minute' cap, where each player is only allowed X amounts of minutes play per year, with the rule that players are told 3 days in advance if they will be playing. This will make for: interesting tactical decisions that coaches can make with different players their minute budget, and allow for more opportunities for players that struggle to breakthrough, to get more time off the bench

Ridiculous. If they are so concerned they should have been voicing their concerns to UEFA for expanding the Champions League and the Euro Champs and adding in extra games as well. Not just to FIFA. As rubbish and corrupt as FIFA are and has been, the only things in the Calendar FIFA have control over (in the men's game) are the international windows, the World Cup, and the Club World Cup (which has been changed from every year to once every four years). The new CWC has effectively replaced the old CWC and the Confederations Cup (in terms of calendar timing) and impacts only a small number of teams from Europe every four years. If FIFPro and the European Leagues complained of both UEFA and FIFA, I wouldn't have much of a problem, but it seems to be only FIFA they have an issue with which is ridiculous.

I think the expanded World Cup is pathetic, but this is just a PR war. FIFA is the least responsible for this. It’s UEFA that’s added two extra games to the club calendar. Moreover, UEFA’s qualifying format for the Euros and World Cup has too many teams. Teams like Gibraltar, Faroe Islands, and other minnows should play pre-qualifying games. Filtering out the weak links would make the qualifiers much less rigorous on the players. Top European teams play anywhere between 4-6 games per year against opponents that are of amateurish level.

Football is eating itself, I now watch fewer games than I used to as it has indeed become saturated and a little stale. When you throw in all the off-field court battles, click-bait talk shows, FPL, etc etc as well it’s too much. 1 premier league game a week (for 8 months of the year), the later stages of the champions league, and an international tournament every two years was the sweet spot.

I am a fan of the sport but I fully support having more games each season because that means bigger squads, more players for your favourite club. I agree that the playtime should not increase for a player but a player doesnt have to play all games, get two A squads and rotate them. WIN for the fans and WIN for the state(=taxes) and WIN for the sport as such and WIN for the players...maybe not so much for the club since they now have to increase the expenditure but I am sure their revenue will also increase.

no one cares about International friendlies, the Nations League. All pointless. Scrap the Euros, the Copa America, African Nations and just have a World cup every 2 years and make that a bigger competition. FIFA are scum though, proven in the past to be corrupt. Scrap the Community Sheild, it's just an exhibition game and at the end of the season when people say how many trophies a team has won, that never gets counted so what's the point. Carabao Cup, who cares about that. Also UEFA need to do one too cos the new Champions League format is a joke. Have more teams but so many that don't meet the standard of high level football. Dinamo Zagreb losing 9-2, Celtic losing 7-1, Young Boys losing 5-0, Crvenza losing 4-0 Slovan Bratislava losing 4-0. It makes a mockery of the competition. The gulf in class is there to see and no one wants to watch a team like Man City playing Slovan and have around 80% possission and 28 shots to their 3.
