Great car! My father bought one in 2006, a 1.8 petrol with manual gearbox. He sold it to me 5 years ago. It has almost 180.000km (approx. 111.000 miles) now and had no single repair since the beginning, not even once. Perfect reliable car. I want to keep it and see how much longer it holds...200.000km, maybe 300.000km...? Who knows?

The 2.2 cdti has so much torque you think something is going to break, it is that good. Ignore the fact that it has just 140bhp and think about the way it moves effortlessly compared to the petrol equivalent. To be honest I don't mind which as I'd be quite happy with either engine. My friend has a 2.2 mondeo tdci with similar performance figures and I appreciate what a difference having that little extra engine capacity can do to the torque figures. The civic is a damn fine car.

I bought a used 2010 1.4 automatic sport edition of this car about a month ago. I used to have a 1993 Toyota Carina 1.6 sedan so it was a big leap and it took some time getting used to my new car. This car is definitely growing on me, it's got a quite fresh engine, Honda upped the 1.4 petrol up to 100 HP in the later models, this combined with a relatively low weight makes it quite "zippy". The 6 speed automatic gearbox suits the engine well, it keeps it within an optimal rev range and it never feels lacking in power really. The suspension is quite firm and isn't very comfortable on bumpy roads, but the steering is very sharp and it feels very stable even when taking sharp turns at relatively high speed. I don't like how the head unit is integrated into the dashboard, but this is common in pretty much all newer cars. I don't like it because I like to upgrade the stereo to get higher sound quality, the factory system is quite good, so it's no biggie. The rear visibility could be better, but the parking sensors somewhat compensates for this when backing into a parking spot. The automatic transmission is a bit illogical sometimes, but most of the time it adapts well to my driving pattern. The "manual" mode is useful when I want to dictate gear changes, for example for more "sporty" driving. I adored my old Carina, but it was a very old car, and the rust was beginning to get the upper hand. It was also quite primitive, didn't even have ABS, so i felt it was time to retire it when it didn't pass through the latest MOT test. I've only had my Honda Civic for about a month, but it's proving to be a worthy successor for my trusty old Carina. Now I just need to figure out how to get a proper stereo installed and it'll be golden. :P

@RupOase
@RupOase 6 лет назад
Bought one last year, and it's a pleasure to drive with. Mine is a 1.8 litre petrol, from late 2008, executive, EU, at 61,000 km. Wheel arches, are indeed a bit annoying, since they tend to stick out sometimes, thus I think I might need to replace the plastic 'bolts' that hold them in place. Except for that, panoramic roof is useful on long runs and mostly for the ones in the back. It can become a bit annoying if you forget to close it during the hot season. Apart from that, the suspension seems forgiving for the ones in the front. Some said it feels far better in the back (short gal) than on some VAG cars, but I do know that the Civic is infamous for the stiff suspension. It might have to do with the fact that i use R16 wheels, instead of the R17 which most reviewers make their reviews on. On a side-note, R16 wheels do increase the overall comfort, so you might want to consider that. I currently use 205/55 R16 tires (both winter - Michelin and summer - Continental) and they seem to handle pretty well small bumps in the road. Over tram tracks however you do hear the suspension rocking a bit... and on high speeds it could do with a bit better sound insulation, but I think you can play some music to get rid of that. Maintenance wise... pretty cheap. In my country I got the yearly one with ~ 125$ /108€ / 94 £ (filters included, full oil change). Some recommend 0w20 oil, but previously the car ran with 5w30, so I use the 5w30. Currently I passed the 75,000 km mark, and I didn't noticed any oil drop on the stick. High mileage Civics, usually need about 1 litre of oil to be added for every 10-15k km, so watch out for that or expect that to happen, particullary if the prev. owner didn't had such a good care of the car. Anyway, the car is great and even in 2018 (soon), it twists heads around of how good it looks.
@cstrx11
@cstrx11 6 лет назад
Dan Mihalea mine 1.8 from 2011 consumed 0.1-0.15 liters of motor oil every 1000 km when i bought the car with 92,000 km and the oil consumption is exactly the same now 3 years later with 183,000 km. I use motul 0w30 or 5w30.
@cstrx11
@cstrx11 6 лет назад
Dan Mihalea btw I also dont kmow what to buy when i sell mine. Maybe the new 1.5 turbo civic. But the thing is that my fk2 is just so good and nice (ionized bronze), practical and good to drive that sometimes I would keep it for ever. I mean I tried a lot of cars in the same class, but none of them was sool and practical and nice to drive. Only thing i dont like is the high road noise level.
@RupOase
@RupOase 6 лет назад
Szabo Balazs hello neighbour :) the brand new generation on civic lacks on of the most practical things ever, that I like on my 2008 civic: the Magic Seats. Just brilliant. The new hatchbacks look a bit disappointing with all the plastic on the rear of the car... The sedan is the more good looking, but again, the magic seats system is gone.
@losmeets98
@losmeets98 5 лет назад
Dan Mihalea I actually have a Civic of the gen before years, but after the facelift. It's a 5-door with the 1.6L petrol. It has done over 200.000km now and hasn't let me down ever! (Apart from the battery once when I left the interior light on for a week, oops) ;) It does consume quite some oil though, but as long as it doesn't increase I'm fine with that.

Fantastic car. My only issue with it is that on our roads (central finland) the tyre noise gets pretty harsh. Our roads are destroyed every winter by stud tyres. 'Course I could fit smaller and narrower wheels, but the 17" alloys make it look fantastic and 225/45 tyres make the steering so sharp! Guess I'll have to add some noiseproofing during the summer, the car is definitely worth it.

They should've given the entry level the 1.5l L15A7 instead of the 1.4l, which feel pretty underpowered in a car this big. Also what he says at 3:00, although the build quality is good, it's not quite VW or BMW good. It's still more on par with Ford. Also the tailgate leaks like a sieve after a few years. Still, amazing cars and worth getting because you get those amazing looks with Honda reliability

I've had my 2.2 CDTI for a couple of years now. To be honest, I could have done with a smaller-engined petrol car. This isn't really suitable for short commutes - I'm only getting 38-44 mpg and I'm not booting it. The ride is awful - you can feel every tiny bump in the road. The car is way too low as well - I keep catching high kerbs in parking spaces with the front bumper, which keeps pushing it even lower which means it catches more often etc. I'm going to have to take the bumper off when the weather improves and bend the mounts back up. On the plus side, it handles well, it drives lovely - grips the road superbly and the 2.2D lump is pretty sporty and super-torquey. The boot is enormous too. I don't want to tempt fate here but it's also never let me down - not even once. Mine is now just over ten years old and it's just sailed through its annual inspection with no advisories. Still..... I'm getting older now and I could do with something that didn't shake the shit out of me every time I drive over a small pothole.
@Negativvv
@Negativvv 3 года назад
I bought a 1.8 petrol. I did consider the 2.2 diesel but rejected it as there's talk the exhaust manifolds crack and the clutch can't really handle all that torque. Far less reported problems on the 1.8. My commute is a 10 mile or so mixed A and B road route, I get 39 to 41 mpg most of the time... Mine rides on 16" rims, I use Goodyear tyres and it's acceptable unless it's around town. The car is stupidly low yes, it's got worse ground clearance than my lowered V6 Alfa Romeo which is frankly stupid. Overall a likeable car, I bought mine so I could garage and pamper my other car with the Civic to be used and abused...

@RupOase
@RupOase 6 лет назад
- if it has high mileage, expect it to consume 1 litre of oil every 10 to 15,000 km. - you need to run a full diag. on the car beforehand. - test the folding mirrors: 1. Fold the mirrors then unfold them 2. Activate the mirrors heating, and get it running for like... 5 minutes 3. Fold-unfold the mirrors again. They should both fold at the same time and complete. If they don't fold (or in step 1) then the issue is with a electronic component which can be changed at home. There is a clip on how to do it and it will cost you far less than to change the whole mirror. - the paint... if you have some tool to test its thickness.... on the long run, I found that it gets scratched very easily, particularly with inexperienced guys at the washing station... they tend to use brushes which ruin the top transparent layer. Also... it's not good to go with it on the automatic car wash that uses brushes... paint on the car can be a fragile thing. These can be solved by polishing. - park sensors is a MUST. If you see scratches on the edge of the rear bumper then is a usual stuff... all civic drivers have this issue. The back is rounded so it's a bit hard to see the car's corners, that's why it is ideally if you can get one with (at least) park sensors. You might get bothered by the rear spoiler that separates the rear window. I find it useful at night when there is a car in your back with Xenon headlights, if it's right in the back, the rear spoiler will prevent the headlights of the car behind you to blind the crap outta you. Mostly complain about this, but I find it brilliant. Except for that, I think there are the usual stuff that you need to watch out for.

The only issue I have with the review is the notion that the older Civics weren't for young people or as precise or sharp - the VTi's and SI's were immensely more raw and lively than the FN, and had amazing multi link rear suspension that was frankly unbeatable - there's a reason EG's and EK's are very popular track cars. In comparison, the FN has downright boring torsion bar rear suspension, weights more than 1.2 tonnes and doesn't have a engine that screams its head off.

I just buy the 1.8 ivtec manual 6 speed. ES version with panoramic roof. Very cheap in uk. But have 136000 miles, it's too much but the honda engines is good.

George George 136,000 miles is nothing for a Civic, or any modern (well maintained) car. Yes Diesel engines usually last longer but Vtec engines have always been bombproof. As long as its been maintained, enjoy the next 100,000 miles 👍

I bought one with 59,000 km on the dash last year (2016) in October, and took it this year (2017) for the yearly general inspection. They've asked me why have I come to them, did the car showed me the service key on the dash? Because the car is in damned good shape. A friend of mine bought a car in 2010 (same 2008 manufacture year) and now he's on a whooping 500,000 km + without any technical faults. Just followed the service manual for parts that needed replacement, but even those parts were in good shape

This civic RX55AHZ seems to be untaxed from 2008, anyone know why? has it been in a crash?
@Hornby09c
@Hornby09c 5 лет назад
Likely destroyed as it's probably a pre-production model. If not then might have been exported seeing it's left hand drive.

@davidlister370
@davidlister370 3 года назад
This was likely a press car, so Honda would have literally thrown every single optional extra into it to show them all off to reviewers. Your Type R would have had the option of voice control and SatNav, but it wouldn't have come as standard.
