Audi describes the 5.2-litre V10 as a 'derivative' of the Lamborghini's V10, and in fact the 5.2 shares very few components with the 5-litre Lamborghini unit, the only significant shared parts being the drivetrain for the four camshafts. The reason is that the Audi V10s are built at the same factory as every other Audi engine, which, for economies of scale, has been configured to produce engines with a common 90mm bore spacing. The bore spacing of the Gallardo engine is 88mm. This is how the Audi V10 ends up with a different cylinder block, a new crankshaft, different pistons and new camshafts, while the more restricted engine bay, plus Audi's desire to give the engine its FSI direct injection, result in bespoke induction and exhaust systems and a new sump.
I wish we had a few unrestricted stretches of road here in the UK. The government should do a big 5 lane autobahn that goes from north of London all the way to Scottland. Make it a (reasonably priced) toll road, so drivers have the choice (and keep vans and lorries well away) I'm sure that plenty of people would be bang up for giving that a go!!!
@@incognito96 yeah, Germans are the ultimate in efficiency, no doubting that!!! The UK is generally ok, but could definitely improve on their lane discipline (we get lots of drivers that just sit in the middle lane and refuse to move over) Half of the problems we get are down to foreign drivers who (maybe) are used to driving on the right or just shouldn't be driving.
We have plenty of open space here in the USA, but as was stated previously, more than one somebody would mess it up here, too. Slow drivers are constantly driving in the passing or overtake lane here in the States which is illegal in most states.
@@rusty3831 yeah, plenty of open space is a big understatement I hear haha!!! Do you not have any stretches Stateside that you can do big speeds??? Surely some of those desert roads, or other secluded roads are not heavily policed??? I've not been to the US so I dont know what the situation is there. In the UK we have well made motorways and ring roads that you can build some big speeds up on, but you are risking at least your licence (if you are doing big speeds you might be going to prison if caught!) I live in a small town in Essex that has a decent bypass/ring road that I used to do 130+mph daily for around 4 or 5 years in the 90s. I was driving my Astra GTE 2.0 ltr 16 valve hot hatchback in those fun/crazy years, and 135mph was absolutely flat out in a little 1989 car that would definitely killed me if I'd crashed haha!!! I never got caught, and even to this very day have never been caught speeding although I have slowed down considerably nowadays (I'm married with 3 kids now, so I have something to lose!) Cars are so much faster now too, with a lot of hot hatchbacks now doing 150+mph and 0-60mph in 5 or 6 seconds (my car used to do 60 in around 7 seconds) The AWD superhot hatches are doing 60 in under 4 seconds and some are doing 170mph at the top end. I think I would have died if I'd driven one of those bad boys!!!
David Kennedy - We have many highways that might be suitable for high speeds, but like you say, one risks the proverbial speeding ticket, loss of license, etc. Local police in any given jurisdiction can be nasty to deal with. Most highways have a 75 mph speed limit, and there might be some with an 85 mph, but not too sure of those.
I'm not saying you cant. I'm saying it is a bigger trill and adrenalin rush then much faster driving in big powerful car engineered to do so. At 120 mph the Audi is like stationary wile those little cars you quote are over thee limit and you feel like you die en the next moment
My 1972 Rover 2000TC will do 100mph quite happily, in fact it was designed to cruise at that speed until the 'temporary' 70mph limit came in... Fuck the government, 70mph with modern cars is a joke of a limit
Nowadays it is a completely different thing. Loads of road works and the density of the traffic got more intense so during the day it is now almost impossible to go Vmax. If one feels the need for speed you have to do that on a Friday or Saturday evening when most trucks are not permitted to drive and the daily traffic has come to its minimum.
Yea we dont have the infastructure for this. Build them and yes but the roads are too clogged and too full of incompetent drivers who are not used to this as they are on the continent. Need to ban lorries buses coaches too and anything towing anything.
Imagine having unrestricted sections of motorway in the UK. With 95% of the population having zero road sense, common sense or discipline it would be carnage.
Ah yes, the good old days when I owned a 90 hp diesel and 155 mph seemed like an insane and impossible speed. Now I go 170+ usually every two weeks when I start to miss it 😂.
0:20 "most boring cars launched this year, you need a jewelry's eyepiece to spot the discrete changes" but has an engine from a Lamborghini - beautiful V10 and four exhaust pipes and quite big changes to the bumpers and massive wheels. that does not scream 'boring' and definitely easily recognisable that it's not just a normal A6!
@@joshbacon8241 it was detuned to prevent it from eating into the profit margins of the S8, R8, and gallardo, why the fuck would you buy a Audi s8 or gallardo for way more money when you could get a s6 for a fraction of the cost, that’s your answer
@@bfctz632 Dude, it simply is a statistics question. China has the longest road network in terms of KM covered. USA now comes second, Germany comes third.
And all our "Super Highways / Smart Roads" in the UK have silly restrictions....About time we took this into account. Speed obviously doesn't kill.stupidity does.
There is a word called accident. A definition is here; "noun 1 an unfortunate incident that happens UNEXPECTEDLY AND UNINTENTIONALLY, typically resulting in damage or injury: he had an accident at the factory | [mass noun] : if you are unable to work owing to accident or sickness." Now, as it's something that often cannot be predicted stupidity doesn't have a say in it. Your cliche is false.
@@gottliebdee263 They are called road traffic "Incidents" Now... not accidents. an event that is either unpleasant or unusual ..not sure what the point of all this was ..
@@AdeReeves Stupidity suggest it's the fault of the driver. A blow out probably doesn't come under that banner. A blow out at 155 is a lot more of handful than a blow out at 70. That's what the point was, lot's of things can happen at that speed and you don't know how you, (or others on the road at the time), will react. It's pretty stupid to say it's just stupidity.
@@AdeReeves That's not my point or intention. The rules are there invariably because there are too many people that take the piss and that has a bearing on us all. That person that pulls into the fast lane at the last minute with one flash of the indicator. This may be because they can't judge speed, or because they think it is their responsibility to slow you down, (or both). People like that are not exposed by speed cameras, (neither are the speeders), so we need some way to manage everybody. Police are too expensive to fill up the roads with and they are not as objective as a camera, (at the moment).
Autobans are different to uk motorways in every way. Every corner is made like a race track with all angles kept etc. Watch documentary about it. Another thing is they are not going uphill and downhill as much as uk roads so visibility is greater and even with a greater speeds you can still anticipate. Lastly lanes width are greater also.
Isn't it true that you CAN do any speed you want on the Autobahns, but if you crash, and insurance can prove you were doing over 130kmh, they won't cover your car, only the car you hit?
@@PlayTVwels Not false at all..... Some of us know the facts!!
Why did Audi have to detune the S8’s V10 from 444bhp to 429bhp in the S6? carmagazine.co.uk said that this was apparently “to keep the marketing men happy”. Now, I’m not sure what keeping the marketing men happy has to do with the fact the engine had to be detuned for use in the S6...
well, I suppose they need you to have a reason to go for the more expensive S8 over the S6, if they had the same power (and presumably less weight in the S6) it'd be really tricky to market the slower S8 to anyone
KarlosBricks Because if the S6 and the S8 had the same power as each other, the S6 would be quicker, so why would people buy the S8 when they could buy an S6 to get better performance for less? They wouldn’t, so S8 sales would plummet as a result!
my audi a6 3.0tdi will do 155 as will most larger audi, bmw or mercedes and looking at the slow speed that speedo went up i wasnt overly impressed. not to say i dont want one.
What a random comment 😂😂 155 in 2006? Was achievable by many a slighlty warm compact exec diesel 6 cylinder! Even mainstream hot hatches were nudging 150. Golf. Gti astra vxr focus st 5 pot.
It's pretty easy to go this fast and you don't even need to be in Germany. That Audi should have been able to hit 200 mph without the limiter easy. That would have been a more worthwhile video
@@groupb5420 i find these videos hilarious cuz legit everybody who doesn’t own an Audi S6 likes to talk ab the Audi s6 but meanwhile I’m over here sitting in my v10 Audi s6 eating McDonald’s, this RU-vid shjt is stupid tell me why mfs tryna tell me I don’t own my own car
RU-vid is worldwide, gotta think there are millions of people who might not of seen this. In a few years there could be lots of people watching who weren't even born at the time of it originally airing. The internet is a powerful thing.
Thats ok then. I have a reminder that bongs when i do 95. I cant afford to get a ban. Not worth it. You get most places in the uk fairly quick you do a solid 90.
It is very funny to see exited people on the Autobahn. But the disadvantage is, that "slower people" with 120km/h need to fear the fast ones...this is not that nice and this is an untold fact
Not if it isnt restrictet. There are Zones u can only drive like 50mph in the wet but only if there are some dangerous things like hard turns or from a mountain. Sry for bad eng ^^
2006, 13 years ago. 2019, today - don't even try it. Morons everywhere, that will change lanes just as you drive by or worse, they will block the lanes for tens of kilometers. Once upon the time...you could try reaching vmax. Not anymore. At least if you care about yourself or your car.
300 hp might not sound much but it’s way more hp than what regular family cars got. As I said my car got 300 hp but that’s not the reason it’s so fast. It’s fast because it got a sport chassi and tons of torque
ReflexFusion98 I don’t even know why I said that, I guess I was trying to say that: just because a car got like 460hp doesn’t automatically make it faster than my 300hp car because my car might have better aerodynamics, less weight, better grip etc. Imagine a race between a 500hp mustang and a 300hp Kawasaki H2 motorcycle. The motorcycle will win so damn hard even though it got 200hp less than the mustang. Why? Because the motorcycle weighs a lot less than the car. and my car got a lighter chassi than the Audi and that’s why it’s faster. Also I was lying all the time because my bmw is a touring model and it’s heavier and got a slower acceleration than the Audi. But it does have a higher top speed at 172mph
michael gill depends when and where: on an Autobahn in a clear weather it’s perfectly fine to do more than 130km/h (provided you follow the other rules like safety distance, Rechtfahrgebot, etc)
