Hi Lou! Thanks for the information regarding nematode resistant Fig trees! It's good to know what are the best trees and/or what type of disease resistant trees are best to grow! Again, thanks for sharing!!
I always start mine in May or June here in 7b ms. I know you asked Lou but thought I'd throw my 2 cents in there as a recommendation for you. Good growing to you!! 👍
Hi Lou, just wanted to mention that LSU Purple is unfortunately susceptible to RKN too. I don't know if it's resistant to some specific species of RKN, and it's more susceptible to others. Just thought I'd mention it that it's not a sure thing.
@onortosu Hi there! That's interesting! Why would you make that claim when it's contrary to every opinion that I've ever heard and the exact opposite of everything that I've ever read? Lou Monti
@onortosu Your experience with RKN infecting LSU Purple is very interesting. I can say that this is not the first time that I've heard that, as well. I did witness someone else's magnificent LSU- P where RKN is generally a problem, but I never confirmed the condition of that tree. I have a great deal of experience with RKN and the best resistant varieties for me have been Peter's Honey, Desert King, Celeste, and Feliciano Bianco. Oddly, the original Hardy Chicago is also resistant, but I've had very unsuccessful experiences with all of the other Mount Etna types that I've tried. Thanks for your input. Lou Monti
@lukeott58 Hi Luke! Well, to answer your question accurately, I'd rather say that I have several Celeste trees that I've noticed somewhat different characteristics from one another than to describe them as different Celeste kinds. Celeste is Celeste, but there are most certainly slight variants that perform better or worse in several important traits, as I have explained in my videos! Thanks for watching! Lou Monti
I enjoy your videos and channel. Thanks for all your information, I’m a fellow fig grower from down here in Louisiana. I’ve been watching your videos since you started. I’d like to give you a Black Celeste tree if you don’t have it? My tree comes from another well known fig grower in south Louisiana that has a huge collection and has been growing for years.
