This and One-Winged Angel are just a fraction of what Yoko Shimomura is capable of doing with Nobuo Uematsu's works. Square, please, let this woman cook
I can only imagine what it must have been like to experience this as a long time fan of the game imagine, 27 years after you beat this fucker originally, he finally returns. Mastering the third dimension, just as promised
I was hoping and praying that Culex would get an arrangement in the remake. When I finally got the remake myself and got to Culex, I was so disappointed to hear the original theme even though I had the orchestral arrangements selected. After I beat the game and unlocked the sound test, I checked to see if there were arrangements just there as a postgame easter egg. And I saw "It's been sealed" and nearly had a heart attack. I played through all the postgame rematches, beat Johnny Jones, got the Extra Shiny Stone, grinded up to Level 30 (max in SMRPG), and when I unsealed that door and walked in, I was absolutely delighted that this incredible arrangement of FF4's boss theme had graced my ears. Between the leaks and people figuring it out before me, I had somehow managed to remain completely unspoiled on the Culex rematch. And holy shit am I glad.
I wanted to remain unspoiled so badly. But I saw a RU-vid thumbnail and I almost cried I was so upset. I want to know what my reaction would've been if I hadn't been spoiled.
So it becomes evident that Super Mario RPG derives its gameplay in reference from Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. From underdogs to a secret superboss, always train hard to fight to the finish.
If Soken has challenged Yoko Shimomura for the crown of best FF music arranger, then it would seem she has more than risen to that challenge, because WOW!
Kinda gives Kingdom Hearts vibes, specifically that one track called Wave of Darkness. Not surprising, considering both games were soundtracked by the legend herself, Yoko Shimomura.
@@DavidCosmology It seemed that he made the music for the official Inazuma Eleven games first and then made renditions for the anime adaptation. So yeah, the music is pretty memorable, but not as memorable as Chrono Trigger.
He’s not that bad if you have a good strategy, and if you’re quick on the revives if any party members go down. Peach with the Lazy Shell carries this fight as always. And remember, start with the Wind Crystal first, and attack it with Mario’s jump. And always make sure ALL your party members are at full health when Culex does his “once per 5 turns” Meteor attack. Final Claw’s not that bad though because you can block it with good enough timing.
Nintendo would never do it because FFXIV is multiplat and iirc not even on Switch so can't even be platform-specific. Square co-owns Culex, Mallow, Geno, and %100 owns the song because it's literally just a remix of FFIV's boss theme. So with Nintendo's significantly more likely approval of Mallow, Geno, and Culex, it could theoretically happen. Just without the Mario characters or branding.
@@TheRedCapI can see that, or how did he managed to get the 3D To finally be part of him. Someday it will happen. I would love a extreme level raid where we have to keep track of the crystals and his near-one hit move
i love how yoko shimomura made this version more threatening and (kinda) less heroically epic then most of other recent renditions of theme to be trully fitting of culex (since og theme was almost undistinguishable from ff IV's theme)
@@Ghosthitman387 to each his own but again, not a fan of Sokens work in general. Too much messy over the top ness and it’s never really cohesive like Uematsu or Shimomuras music. Like no offense he somehow manages to make remixes or his songs sound… generic?
*"Aqua" appears* Sora: Aqua, what are you doing here? "Aqua": *laughs* Isn't it obvious, Sora? I'm here to finish you off! Sora: Do I really have to fight that impostor? I know you like recreating boss encounters, but this is of poor taste. Ludwig: Now don't be so huffy mein boy. Besides, if this Aqua is a copy, then where's the real Aqua? Sora: Where she's always is. Isn't that right, Aqua? *Aqua didn't respond* Sora: Uhh, Aqua? Aaaqua? AQUA! "Aqua": Time to die, Sora! Sora: Why isn't she responding? Oh no, don't tell me that's really Aqua?! What am I gonna do? I really don't what to fight her! *after "Aqua" took enough damage, her face became scary with jagged teeth and deranged eyes* Pseudo Aqua: YOU'RE FINISHED!! Sora: WHAT THE WHAT!?! Man, glad I chose to attack. Pseudo Aqua: FEEL THE SHAME!! DIE ALREADY!! *after defeating Pseudo Aqua* Sora: Take that, you big fake! Pseudo Aqua: At least I'm beautiful!
Has been for a while. Give Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story's final boss theme a listen sometime. Makes sense, considering Yoko Shimomura, who composed for SMRPG (both the original and the remaks) and all the M&L games also composes for Kingdom Hearts.
