Former F/A-18 pilot reacts to flying scenes from the 1996 documentary INDEPENDENCE DAY starring Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, and Bill Pullman. Fresh out of copyright jail, this was originally uploaded on July 4th to my Instagram (@cwlemoine) and Facebook ( cwlemoine) accounts. It just cleared content ID last week.

Interestingly, the aliens depicted in the film are said to be real, striking fear into the Star Wars film Empire, whom allegedly controls and feeds off this planet in a strange Jupiter Ascending Abraxis Industry fashion. Luckily Captain Marvel and Star Trek Enterprise gots your back. As for these aliens? They actually allied with Earth...

Fun fact: During production , the US military gave full support to the film directors, offering bases to be used for sets and backdrops, vehicles such as helicopters, tanks, humvee’s, and uniforms for the actors and extras. It was a top secret mission that John Lennon went on years earlier faking his death and killing Kurt Cobaine to go under cover in his place on a top secret mission to infiltrate the alien mothership with soothing music. After he was found and killed, the government faked Kurt's/(Lennon in disguise) suicide to cover it up. @@nightofthunder5509 a harpoon is made for anti ship operations. It has the warhead to sink a destroyer sized ship after being hit 2-3 times The only thing it struggles with is the ship's defences such as CIWS or missiles. Even a super short burst of CIWS is enough to destroy the harpoon And bombs usually fall with gravity (yes they are guided, but gravity is what pulls them down to the earth) and are slower than AG Missiles. Making them even more vulnerable to the ship's anti missile countermeasure.

From what I understand the film crew was allowed to film some shots in side a hornet on the ground. Green screens where placed over parts of the displays so that the special effects guy could put what ever they wanted on the screens. That's why the stores display had all of warnings and cautions and a open canopy but a kind of correct stores display. Also looked it up B2 pilots do have mask.

23:37 ... I think that green light is sort of supposed to act like the alien version of a laser or something. Not that I know why you would need a typical laser at that scale, but if you check the scenes where the ships destroyed NY, DC and Los Angeles, the green beam is not what actually destroys the buildings, but the pulse that comes down along the beam is.

I assume it’s more like if you turn on a REALLY bright light down a tube, the energy was forming at the top but all the light was going straight down because of a funneling effect that the energy would go down once it was ready, so the light was t hurting him because it was literally just the light from the beam

FYI the end attack by Randy Quaid was initially filmed with him in a biplane with the nuke strapped to the side of the fuselage. Many of the harnesses used Capewell connectors which are only used with backpack chutes, and the ejection seats were Phantom H-7 seats. Lots to pick apart from an ejection seat nerd view. Did love the 'sack of potatoes' PLF

I kinda wish they left that in, to be honest. Russell getting kicked out of the jetfighters for being a screw-up, and then showing up anyway with a bomb/missile strapped to his biplane for the 11th-hour hail-Mary is such a great concept.
@anakinflair
@anakinflair Год назад
@@SynchronizorVideos They have that ending as a deleted scene on the blu-ray. It's actually pretty terrible- how is the biplane keeping up with Hornets and alien fighter craft? How in the hell did Russell get his hands on a nuke? How is the biplane even able to carry it? As for why the Hornet wasn't disintegrated as it flew up the beam, I always took that beam as a targeting beam. The destructive part is shot down that beam after it locks onto a target.

Great reaction video, Mover!! Just a couple of minor things... 11:56 The Alien fighters also have shields which is why it was able to survive impact with the canyon wall. 22:18 He said "flanking positions" not Viking. 23:36 No, it wouldn't destroy the Hornet. In the establishing shot for the Alien primary weapon, we see the same light (targeting indicator maybe?) shining on the people standing on the roof of the high-rise. The light did nothing to them, it was the energy pulse when the weapon actually discharges that does the damage. Thanks again--love your videos!!

I still love this movie too... I remember being up on Cape Cod at my dads house and we went to go see this on opening night. I've never seen a completely packed theater who had an audience so engaged with the feature as this movie. It was just opening night at a random cinema, nothing special other than it being the initial showing of the movie at that theater, and at the end the entire theater gave the movie a standing ovation. Something I can easily see for a good official premier with cast & whatnot attending but a standing ovation without any of the hype around cast & crew is something I never expected and have never seen since despite catching many good opening nights for other movies since then. It might sound sappy, but that was a night that I will remember till the day I die. (and yeah, that has to be the most epic speech in movie history, the only other speech I can think of that comes close is Commander Shepard before the end of the suicide mission in Mass Effect 2... Mark Meer is good in his delivery but Jennifer Hale knocks it clean out of the park)

As for whether President Whitmore's character had experience in the Hornet, I believe it's mentioned early on in the movie that he'd flown combat missions during Desert Storm prior to his presidential campaign, so it's possible that he was either in the Hornet or something contemporary to it such as the F-16 or F-15. Also surprised you didn't comment on how they seemed to be calling AGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship missiles "AMRAAMs" and using them in an air-to-air role instead of air-to-surface.
