I have been hoping for this interview for many many years. At last, the humble, quiet, unassuming, giant of a man amongst men who originated the Selous Scouts now gives us tiny snippets of his career. Every Rhodesian owes a huge debt of gratitude for his dedication and service. What a legend. Respect.

What a great soldier. Sadly many of us never knew all the incidents and events that he had intimate knowledge of. Thus so very important for Hannes , John and team to get it on record while you still can.Thank you Winston

a few years ago, I attended a BSAP Association dinner in London. I knew very few people there, but by great good fortune, I found myself sitting next to Winston Hart. An utterly charming and modest man who humoured my endless questions and told me much that has been covered in these videos. I had been sitting with one of the great figures of Rhodesian history. one of the best evenings of my life.

Apart from his great contribution to the war effort, I think that Winston's humour and love for others were his outstanding qualities. It was a real pleasure listening to him after all these years.

Thank you Winston, your account is one of the most valuable we will ever hear. The fact that Hannes had to remind you about which Operation the Nyadzonya raid actually was, is a testament to how much you were cramming into a "working day" back then, for it to be relegated to the back of your memory!

The bulk of that is quite mindblowing. As a barely jnr then, leaves a lot to think and question about it. Both interviews well worthy of comment in any form. As for me, leave of absence required for now as the vino has won this round for now; But what an honour it must have been being privy to those inner sanctums and some pretty damn interesting folks all around. Salute mates.

Legends and brave men. Interested in the pre Altona farm attack time frame. If the specific threat was known why were the farmers not warned? I was only 16 and part of one of the Centenary farmer families. We knew generally that there were increasing threats throughout Rhodesia but I don’t believe we were told they were in the area. After Altona our world changed.

Great Chat thank you. Such a pity this series wasnt started some 15 years ago or so when we all had our scruples😂. Funny trying to see us older buggers scratching heads to remember things. I saw a whatsapp today from a mate that read: "Nobody told me that when you get a husband the ears are sold separatly". Can just imagine the wives discussing their husbands. Anyway thanks and God Bless. Respect Winston.

V interesting. I was at Churchill during the hot years 1976-1979. We had so many old boys killed including a head boy. Their sacrifice is something that I never forget. I remember a guy in the same house being picked by his family mid term. His older brother had been killed. I felt so much for him. After that as a senior I kept an eye on him in case he got into trouble with anyone or all the little rules we had in the hostel. I thought he’s never going to have another reason to be unhappy. Emotional when I think about it 40+ years later.

Bland was a connex officer. He was killed, and the vehicle buried, but his partner herald hawkesworth was kidnapped and taken to Mozambique. I met Gerald on a call-up and spoke to him at length. He said he was not treated badly. The Zanla spoke to him reasonably, explaining that they were victims of racism, did not have the vote, were robbed of their land, the best land was taken by white farmers, etc. He personally told me that they had a good case. Later, I met Gerald in the Guruve commercial farming area. He was a farm manager during the hondo ye Minda.

Fletcher, selous scouts, from Chinhoyi [Sinoia] was THE poacher. He intentionally poached and hooked up with the ivory mafia. A person was planted in his organization. This informant told me about it. It happened in the last few months of the war. After all the danger, sweat, and hard work, the mafia took the ivory and did not pay him.

Just watched this superb video from you guys (Thank you ,Hannes and John) with Winston. My book deals with how the supposed missile parts (and they are not definitive) got into the wreckage. A couple of things are not quite correct given Winston's fading memory a) The flight paths were not known to the terrorists, these were random as decided by the pilots on the day. It was Dennis Croukamp who planted the device, it was his wife that worked in Ron's office. Dennis wrote about it in his own book. Its very interesting that Winston has pointed out that the bug in Ron's office was not a SB one. So who did it? Dennis spoke about a guy named Redfern in the Army. Not sure what that connection is.
@colinriddell9553
