God this makes me wanna cry. It's fucking awful that the community have to protect themselves from these horrible gangs. And the Police and politicians do nothing.
+Joan Cassie the worst thing is the guy on the video Dr. Mireles, was arrested by mexican goverment for guns possesion, and mexican army arrested many more guys that were just defending themselves. Goverment doesnt protect us nor let us protect ourselves.
+AssaultRiffle37 Also has to do with the fact that the cartels aren't really asking for favors when they give cops money. Cops in Mexico get paid shit, they either take the money or someone takes their family. Televisa and the government work hand in hand to dumb down the people. They censor anything regarding cartels and corruptions. The corruption is prominent from every part of life, and other countries are not exempt, in Central America the situation is probably worse.
government sucks and that the reason why so many immigrate to the states.. what Mexico needs is another civil war,, mexicans are good warriors and they defeated the government twice..!!
Kristy yea but don’t they just do it anyways, I’ve been to Michoacán and don’t plan on going for a very long time due to this, but don’t they just harm people no matter what?
This is the kind of guns you own when your country out laws them. Sub machine guns AK 47 full auto and AR 15 pistols converted to full auto, why fart around with the little stuff.
Was told a story of a gun shop owner in the US that had suspicions of some Mexican men trying to buy guns. Later the FBI told the guy to sell as many guns as they will buy as they are going to charger them for illegal guns. So he does. For months and months. Later, he calls the FBI to see whats come of the situation and they say, "oh yeah, we scraped that". Guy thought about getting outta the business. Couldn't sleep over the possibility of what those guns that were sold was apart of.
@@decembersveryown5935 they did the same with nyc gangs in the 80s, arming them and giving them cocaine and heroin i think it's been confirmed from declassified documents but before it was an urband legend
Vice, I have to say - you've been absolutely phenomenal lately with uploading videos and sharing what's going on the world lately. Thank you very much for that!
I was born in apatzingan, Michoacán. Luckily my parents brought me to the us as a child, but my family still lives there and it hurts to see my people going through this shit.
If drug cartels continue is because of the blessing of the US. Don't forget it. Mexico is wonderful, but we have to remove all of this. Don't forget your real land. 👍
Have you ever seen rotten corpse on street ? All we know cartel does brutal kills as enjoying. I've even seen them take out their hearts and chew them without killing them.
@@darren561 They are now Los Viagras of the United Cartels, they’re currently in a long war with CJNG. I think Mencho even helped these guys against the templars back then.
I dont know why criminals in Mexico, Guatemala, Salvador, Colombia , Honduras do such things. There are same as ISIS, they torture and decapitate people as well. Satanism in its purest forms. I know for violent civil wars in central america but that dont justify mutilations on that massive scale. Take for example Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos,Thailand, they had brutal wars, CIA involvement, dictators like Pol Pot but now there is almost no violence . They make opium , heroin and other drugs there too but there are no head hunters
I work in a company with a large majority of Mexican nationals and they are the hardest working people I have ever come across. Mexico is a great country with a beautiful landscape and a large potential to be even greater, but these cartels are ruining it. Seeing the old man sitting in the church looking up at the ceiling with tears in his eyes makes my heart break. No doubt majority of the Mexican people want peace so they can work and prosper and its really sad that so much of the Mexican government is so corrupt. I will pray for the innocent and hope that those responsible will one day be held accountable for their actions. A strong Mexico benefits everyone. My heart and prayers go out to the people that are suffering and may God help those working to fight the cartels and the corruption, future generations depend on it.
as long the usa keeps funding the cartels and the war of drugs is actually done and not just a catchy motto, nothing will get done. if an investor of elon musk money actually funded the beautiful people fighting against the cartels, nothing will get done quicker.
@@spencerwimmer2120 as someone who has smoked both and is mexican that is 100% how a mexican will smoke weed smoking it till the very end cuz every g matters
this was in Netflix they were supposed to fight the narcos sad thing they became the narcos themselves through time, and the saddest part was that they were close freedom
Yup you're right a majority of them became traffickers and thugs themselves, it's sad cause they were actually doing good work for a lot of small communities
Luke Lamanna. They were thugs to begin with. Most of them were in rival Cartels that thought hey we should disguise ourselves as Auto Defensas and get rid of the Knights Templar Cartel. After they did that they turned to kidnapping, extortion, murder, robbing, drug trafficking, arms trafficking, sex trafficking, and many other sick shit. They are brutal, ruthless, killers.
nope the people you were thinking of were mercenaries fighting communism in Colombia. they were recruited by narcos to kill the other narcos. and if you are going to team up with narcos its obvious that you would become one
Realize that some men are born that way... They suppress all their fear and meet danger head on, regardless of whether they may die or not... Whether they do it to show others how badass they are, or they are motivated by a political or religious cause, it does not matter. Some are just born to be warriors, not soyboys. I am born and raised in America. I have never fought in a war. However, I am a hunter and a gun owner who shoots hundreds of rounds of ammunition in target practice and training every month, and if evil comes to threaten those who I care about, I will not hesitate to engage this evil until it is neutralized, or I am dead... I am just that way...
Jack Mc Mr Mireles wasnt. Papa smurf joined the corrupt police department and El Gordo became a cop and part of the cartel. The government basically manipulated them so they can leave their autodefense group. Sad how they let themselves. Sellouts
These guys are not a cartel, these guys protect the communities that the government in Mexico let's the cartels run, the government over there partners up with the cartels so they see these guys as a threat
@@hellaflushhonda yea bro but look at what happened in 2014, they made a "deal" with the Mexican government under peña neto and the auto defensa group broke apart. Some of of them directly resorted to producing and selling drugs. It started out with the right intentions but with money, power, and outside influences it's become just as bad as the cartels they were fighting. And yeah 100% the Mexican government was involved.
Vice News you guys are geniuses!! Rarely do I watch a documentary and I just want it to keep going, seriously I didn't want it to end. I could've watched this for hours. Keep up the great work!!
Looking at this video was surreal. I live relatively close to those communities, yet I feel safe. I really hope the self-defense groups maintain their integrity, and prevail.
I'm very happy and proud that some people in Mexico finally picked up arms and said "enough is enough." I only hope that they don't fall into the same old cycle.
Fn Skrillex yeah I lived in Mexico for 7 months about 2 years ago, I can assure you that it's pretty bad but they're talking about the headquarters and such, Brazil and Honduras the killing and crime is much more senseless imo the cartels kill for power not $10
How about the druggies stop their fucking addiction? No demand = no drugs The consumers are the REAL problem! i wish i could shoot every single drug consumer to death
+Frozen Tundra There's plenty of countries in Europe that have legalized drugs. All those countries have less drug users now than when they were locking up drug users. It's counterintuitive but it's true.
I hope they keep functioning as vigilantes, fighting back for the cause cuz lotta groups like this turn into street gangs and continue the cycle. Good luck to you guys.
The guys on the video became sell outs only the guy who started the cause didn't sell out but the rest did, there is a documentary about these guys on Netflix
Jay Moran Dr.Mireles was the only one that didn't sell out Pitufo and other leaders sold out same cycle the 💰 is to tempting for them some are really poor not an excuse for no one my uncle's are from Michoacan!
Adrian Barriga I'm not talking about cartels, though. Cartels are usually built off for drug operations originally. Street gangs originate from the idea of protecting a neighborhood but get outta hand if unorganized. That's why I mentioned street gangs
Ave Stamp Well the autodefensas are now a problem due to their new allies the drug cartels. They kick them out and now set their own rules on what goes on. Basically the cartels pay them now to operate.
You Guys are amazing Vice , not only do you guys cover stuff that no other source does but you guys do at a very high quality ! thank you guys for being fearless ! Peace to Shane Smith and the whole crew !
Sorry to say this but this problem will never go away .. it might look like it went away but it's there & as long as there's that demand from the US there will always b some organization to accommodate that huge demand.
Frozen Tundra But it's mostly the USA, son. Stop letting blind patriotism make you look like a moron. To love a country blindly, is to damage it beyond repair.
Perrus Marranus U r fkn right but we're is the line? who's to say where patriotism lives and there Anarchy start? How can anyone differentiate? Exactly u can't and neither do they.
This just makes me want to study politics so I can go back to mexico and run for president and take out the corruption but yet I don't a bullet in my head
Filiberto Camarillo The Cartel will just give you cash and tell you what they want you to say. Cartels runs Mexico. If the US took down their walls the Cartels can penetrate their police force and they already did. Cartel can dominate the US and Mexico at the same time.
Im from uruapan michoacan, I live in canada now. Luckily my family saw what was happening and moved us out, we sold everything that we could possibly own and moved to ontario (there wasn't a guarantee we would stay because they could've kicked us at any time). At this time they didn't think mexico was in such a bad state (2009), so we had to lawyer up and begin paperwork to prove ourselves to be worthy Canadians. I miss my family back home, curently the situation in Uruapan they killed a bunch of kids in a cyber coffee shop randomly when they were having a birthday party, and the violence continues to this day. My city doesn't tolerate and blood is payed with blood, there are many outposts of civilians at each entrance. @VICE should really look into that city because alot goes on in those hills and the corrupt government.
Not precisely. I'd bother explaining again, but I'd hate repeating myself for the tenth time. Maybe you could take the time to read through some of the comments. I expect that if you commented here, you have an interest in the matter and a spare minute to inform yourself a bit better.
Yes, and they can cause severe injury or death. That's not really much of a problem in rural areas, but the people who do it in major cities are assholes. Of course here in the US ammo costs so much we couldn't afford to burn a full clip like that even if we wanted to. Looks like I need to head south of the border if I want affordable brass.
Summer Winter Mythbusters is fun, but it's more entertainment than science and it sounds like they didn't quite nail this one (I know I've seen the episode, but I don't remember specifics). It is almost impossible to fire a gun straight up, so most rounds will maintain a ballistic trajectory rather than tumbling. They lose much of their kinetic energy to the atmosphere, but most are still very dangerous and some keep enough energy to be lethal (just what % is impossible to say since most thankfully never hit people, even in cities). The simple fact is there are dead people to prove how dangerous celebratory fire is. At least two people died this way in the US just last year. A study by a hospital in LA reported nearly 120 injuries by falling bullets between 1985 and 1991, almost 40 of them fatal. In Puerto Rico about 2 people die this way every year according to the CDC. I hope that Mythbusters episode didn't do more harm than good by downplaying the risk. :(
The Trump fence on our Southern Border needs to be about 100 yards north of the actual border w/Mexico. Then ALLOW our mitilias to man the fence with well trained snipers. If any steps foot in "no man's land"...they are fair game....adios !
Bear Trap if that was to be implemented they need to let citizens have much more than pistols and semis, these cartels have RPGS full autos and grenade launchers - lets just hope the civilians don’t make a cartel themselves like has been happening on repeat in Mexico
The worst misfortune that has ever happened to Mexico is having the U.S. as it's neighbor. All the extreme violence and most of the criminality that exist in Mexico right now is related to the drugs trafficking business, and the drugs trafficking is a direct consequence of the amazingly huge number of Amerijunkies in the U.S. demanding their daily dose of drugs.
your stupid if this is america fault. Why get drug from mexico when we can make it ourself. I.I have don't know any one who buy mexican drugs.I live next to border and smoke 100 american Weed.Drug cartel make their money from taxing poor business owner, sneaking people in usa for up to 30000 head per. kidnapping and asking for ransom, gambling,Prostitution.selling arms, land everything you can think of to make money .selling booze.sneaking medicine in usa Do you actually think drug is problem lol.please drugs are only a small percentage.
To the guy that said that people do not use Mexican drugs is hugely mistaken. The only drug that is not being imported anymore due to legalization in the states is weed. Anything else, you name it, will usually come from Mexico. Cocaine comes from South America but will 9/10 times pass through Mexico. Pharmaceuticals like Xanax, hydro donor, oxycodone is heavily imported illegally here as well. Methamphetamine, crack, a vast amount of drugs have to be imported to the states. Tell me when you heard of somebody growing a coca plant and extracting Cocaine from it?
Marketa Martins it's easy to shift the blame and point at us. but in reality everyone wants drugs, and mexico happens to be an ideal climate in many regions for producing marijuana and cocaine. if the US didn't exist, you'd be shipping drugs to whatever the biggest 1st world country was. people will always want drugs, for you to say this is some unique property of americans is incredibly small minded. if you think americans, or anyone, will just stop using meth, cocaine, heroin, and weed, you're an idiot. mexico is fucked up not because of mexicans or americans but because of fate. a lot of us americans are praying for the people of mexico and wanting to see your country's situation improve. so stop being a cunt
+999a0s Look, you really need to educate yourself. All what you said is a lie! You Americans have always been blaming us for all the drugs that enter your country when you guys actually don't have an idea of what you all are talking about. Mexico has never been a big producer of drugs... Most of the drugs that enter the U.S. come from central and south America, not Mexico. Americans always think that anything that comes from the south surely comes from Mexico... I guess you all are too dumb to realize that Mexico isn't the only country bellow the U.S. southern border. Mexico is just a transit zone between the producers and the consumers of drugs. You Americans and south Americans are the ones who caused this problem and my country is a victim... Why the U.S. sticks its nose in my country to create and finance the war that's going on right now? We are not the ones who produce all those drugs... Go and nuke those dumb central and south Americans... The only thing they are good at is producing drugs and causing trouble to others. We used to live in peace until you Americans put pressure on our government to start a war against drugs when it wasn't really our problem.
El Americano was actually siding with the Knights Templar. He was also a leader for the Fuerzas Rurales and was ruled out because h ewas siding with the new CJNG Cartel. The First guy Estanislao Beltran was also a dirty guy, we since has dissapeared and removed himself from the spotlight.
It is truly appreciable to see the effort of the local population to stop the domination of cartels in that region. However, this is clearly the sign of an inefficient government, which could not provide security to its citizens (without disregarding all the corruption scandals envolved, according to some comments in this section). It's not only in Mexico that is having this "counterattack". My country, Brazil, is also having a tough problem when it comes to violence, which is rising in an alarming rate. Some people also have taken measures to fight back, which is also been highly debated between society, especially that it is the result of an inefficient state.
I would add that it is not only inefficient, but completely antithetical to the welfare of the general population. The government in itself is in cahoots with the cartels and forbids or makes it generally impossible for an average citizen to have weapons to be able to defend themselves. If each community could buy weapons and organize themselves into effective militias, they would kick out all the cartels of the region and replace them with farmers that have just gotten kicked out of their own land. Violence is a symptom of the problem at hand, not the cause. And the only way it is going to get better is if more communities organize to protect themselves and fight back. But I doubt the the Mexican government will get their head out of their own asses soon.
