Eating for prevention is the key. Funny how so many people see eating healthy as a threat to them. It's just my choice to do the best I can for myself.... Thanks for all the great research and insight.
Unfortunately the vast majority of people want to live without a care and then frantically scramble for cures when it's too late. Education and prevention is the only way!
You are the best, Dr. Greger! I am reading your book, How not to die, right now and I am immersely impressive with the amount of profound information you shared in this book. What a brilliant book! I cannot thank you enough for all heavenly work you have done for all people. Thank you!!!
AAron, my Dad died of pancreatic cancer and I miss him so badly too. Unfortunately the 'Whole Food Plant Based Diet' movement wasn't popular back when our Dads were getting sick. I am a vegan now as of three years ago. I had IBD and was vomiting daily and was dying. After a 5 day stint in the hospital where they did tests and scans and procedures and bloodwork and antibiotics and iv drips...they sent me home saying, eat white soft foods. No. This sounded wrong. So, I researched. I gave up fast food and most junk food. I stopped bingeing and started looking at food as fuel rather than as a source of pleasure. Ironically when I started cooking beans, lentils and lots of vegetables and added fruits as snacks too, I stopped having 'accidents', was able to leave my apartment, give up adult diapers, and the constant lower left backache went away. My arthritis went away and my skin cleared up. I know this is all really gross, but our health is dependent on what we eat and our environment. Biologically, we may be genetically predisposed to certain diseases we inherited, but the food we eat can heal and prevent illness. I wish my Dad had known. My parents ate healthily, or so they thought. However, they ate processed meats, dairy, soda, and foods with high cholesterol like cookies and chips...yes always in moderation, but despite daily exercise, he still got pancreatic cancer. I hope medicine starts to become more about staying healthy than what pills and treatments can prolong your life or reduce your pain. It hurts to lose someone you love. I'm sorry.
I love how you presented your topic Dr. Greger. I have felt for a long time that cancer is already inside of us. The question is, are we going to eat to pull that trigger of inflammation or are we going to eat to prevent it.
My mother in law (god rest her soul) suffered for 7 years with pancreatic cancer. She suffered from celiac disease also and didnt have the proper nutrition information at the time of diagnosis because it was almost 40 years ago, long before gluten was seen as a wide spread issue. So her diet consisted of mainly animal products (red meat-almost always rare, cheese, etc) and very much enjoyed her wine. When she developed cancer, her doctors and the medical community failed her horribly by just keeping her alive on drugs and treatment. Granted she lived longer than the vast majority of pancreatic cancer patients, she wasnt really living. Her fate was inevitable because doctors would rather treat the disease than prevent it. We now know that red meat and alcohol contributes to pancreatic cancer development, however this information was never disclosed to her and now we are left with a gaping hole in all our hearts.
Medical doctors are trained to treat diseases and they are not taught anything about nutrition. It's up to every individual to make the right health decisions for themselves with the help of underfunded public health departments and initiatives to educate the public about prevention. You can always find a nutritionist or a nutrition based doctor-md's, dc's
Isn’t it so astounding, when we stand back and look at the whole medical-industrial complex and observe what is overwhelmingly taught in medical schools and what is practiced in clinics that the unthinking bias towards pharmaceuticals, invasive procedures, “illness“ as opposed to wellness is so deeply entrenched and has caused so much unnecessary pain, expense and sadness despite all our wealth, talent, and capacity for understanding…and this is changing at a glacial pace despite all the available evidence? My friend recently died at 80, having been diagnosed with two cancers at 70. She took very few meds, had a healthy skepticism of every doctor visit, turned down mastectomies and other treatments, and was fed (by me) a WFPB diet. She was an alcoholic with a lot of skeletons in her closet, but she had enough of a circle of friends and somehow was a vegetarian since her 20s, and gave up smoking at 45. The things that gave her quality of life came from her connections with her circle as well as her diet, I believe. It’s hard to say how much of a role favorable genetics and so many other things play, but all other things being equal, it’s good to learn how to prep and cook plants.
Keep in mind though.....even if you eat a whole plant food based diet you still NEED to get your cancer screenings......as this diet doesn't make you immune to cancer so don't fall into a false sense of security.........but I do think this diet practically eliminates heart disease........
@@user-bv7mk8id5t prayers out to you for a full elimination of it....my sister-in-law (25 year vegan) was diagnosed with Stage 3 rectal cancer 2 years ago and is now cancer free...she was also devastated, but she got treatment and is now cancer free so far, but its a life altering event....stay positive and stay vegan....at least they caught it early for you and I believe should have effective treatments to rid this from your body.
Veganism and vegetarianism still has to be approached with wisdom. As a naturopath I have seen MANY unhealthy vegetarians. There is a healthy way to be vegetarian/ vegan AND an unhealthy way. Please research and apply. You will definitely gain benefit by applying sound health principles.
@@noelenesharp9615 Sister in law is an MD and is very into the vegan WFPBD .....so not eating the junk food and is very selective in what she eats.....but thanx for the advice as I agree, there probably are ton of vegetarians and vegans that eat French fries.......
OH I can't wait for your book on cancer survival! I have a family member who will be getting that book the moment it comes out. Thank you for your work and great video xx
You should get the book by Dr. Henry S. Lodge called younger next year. I am not sure what happened to him or if he is still alive but he was an expert on diet, health and longevity.
@@StanDupp6371 Thanks! I just put a hold on it on my Libby app! Looks like he has a few books - can't wait to read them. Thanks for taking the time to suggest it :)
He used to have a series of videos that detailed exactly which veggies and fruits were the strongest at preventing cancer, but I can't find them anymore. From my memory though, I think raw garlic was number one out of all of them. I try to eat a clove or two of raw garlic per day. I use a microplaner and grind each clove up, releasing the allicin and then add the raw garlic to my food after I am completely done cooking it and ready to eat it. That way I get a burst of garlic flavor and a good portion of the allicin. Another method, if I am short on time, is to toast a piece of bread and then gently rub a raw garlic clove over the bread until it is all ground down into the bread. It makes the best garlic toast I've ever had, and I get the allicin that way.
I do something similar. In order to try and prevent that garlic breath, I chop them up finely, then swallow it with a glass of water, or juice if the taste is too much, the trick is to not chew them, but taking them like medication. 😅
@@koreyb If you chew some raw parsley after eating garlic it supposedly eliminates the smell. Give it a shot and let us know how it works out for you. You would make for a great testing case in that sense )))
Love it. Gotta get more seaweed. Plants provide all we need. How long will it take for the common person to understand this? I'm only uncommon because I undertook to learn all I could about nutrition seven years ago--and that's when I stopped eating meat and eggs and cheese every day. Life is so much better when those are minimized or eliminated. I only minimized my intake and the changes were dramatic.
What is wrong with eating an egg? Obama says he eats 4-6 eggs per day for breakfast. He has access to the best medical advice. Betty White who had superb health to the last day said she avoids anything green. Although it was a little vague by what she meant she stood by it. No kings, queens or presidents are eating what you think is good.
@@beepbeepnj2658 We do not benefit from the saturated fat, the cholesterol, or the protein found in eggs. We are an unhealthy nation with a declining life expectancy because of what we eat. It can pay greatly to study it a bit. I have and I am much better now that I changed. The fact is that the USDA flat out refuses to let egg producers who receive gov't money to say that eggs are "safe" or "healthy". Michael Greger (MD) has an excellent video on the subject titled "Who Say Eggs Are Not Healthy or Safe? ". Every source to his video are in the description such that doubting viewers can look up the research and see if they agree. That part can be very interesting-as I was looking for optimum nutrition for human health and athletic performance. I do not expect you to change your mind, bu thanks for asking anyway. Perhaps others will consider their best health options. Two celebrities are not a study with any significance. The goal is to live healthier without drugs, rather than debilitated and drugged as is the new norm for America. That is exactly what the best studies show, in many different ways. But look at all-cause mortality rates with regard to diet and it's obvious. Heart disease killed double what C19 did in 2020. Nearly 700,000 for heart disease and it's been killing 600,000 Americans per year since the 1960's. It doesn't have to. Eat what you like, I've made my choices and only hope to help others find optimum health through nutrition. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RtGf2FuzKo4.html
@@wadepatton2433 The part about unhealthy nation is because of junk food, obesity and overall bad lifestyle for those that choose that. However Japan is the country with the highest egg consumption rate in the world. They also have the highest life expectancy, a low cancer rate and one of the lowest obesity rates in the world.
@@wadepatton2433 Yeah and Dr. Leila Denmark ate 1 egg a day for over 100 years and has 15 awards and honors in just her name. How many awards and honors do the doctors you admire have, zero?
same ! Hodgkins type 3 ! 1 surgery tumor in neck, then 3 radio 12 chemi.. but 2 year no treatment i feel great oin plant based (ill continue eating well exercise drinkw ater not consume drug alchool, animal corpse.. and just not continue hospitalisation madness of toxic treatment)
@@XeLRU-vid oh man, that's a lot to go through. 🙏🏻I only did the chemo. No surgery or radiation recommended for me. Coming up on my 3 year anniversary since last treatment, at the end of March. Eating plant-based is way more enjoyable than I ever imagined. The biggest challenge is social, especially here in Alabama, USA. Plant-based eating is very counter cultural here. 😅 I wish you well❤

I look forward to your new book. I wonder what the perfect green smoothie for fighting cancer with diet for someone who can only ingest liquid would contain? That is a cancer diet all in one in liquid form
Check ✔️, check✔️, check✔️, but I have stage 1 slow growing bc 🤯😣…. Look my diet was not and isn’t perfect but nothing makes sense to me anymore, I thought I was doing things right. I do believe this is from the pollution, water and the pesticides people use. Sigh -I’m eating this stuff more than ever! Hopefully this will keep things where it is until my surgery. Best
Request : Since different cancers have very different combinations of foods that fight them, pls do videos of recommended diet protocols for each of Kidney Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Breast Cancer, Brain Cancer, etc. This is extremely needed, since the whole food plant-based diet for Breast Cancer is not the same as for Kidney Cancer, etc. I beg of you to make this series of videos. Then cancer patients will know how to attack with precision.
Just follow Dr. Greger's Daily Dozen, but increase the leafy greens to a pound a day or more, and don't forget the broccoli sprouts!. Emphasize lots of salads and berries, legumes, seeds, nuts, and spices. Don't forget the all powerful garlic and/or onions, lemons, cranberries, other small berries, nuts, legumes, spices, etc. Consider attending a clinic similar to Dr. Alan Goldhamer's clinic, to change your eating habits so that this way of eating becomes your preferred way of eating as opposed to the typical SAD diet. You can also change your palate by just following the Daily Dozen. Also, just follow Dr. Greger's past videos on the different types of cancers.
Everything everyone is saying here is true, turmeric too is a powerful cancer killer...I know its too much but am sorry you have to do it all, including low dose chemo. With cancer anything that has an effect on it should be tried, the disease is very complicated there's no silver bullet. I've seen people who took the healthy diet route alone but ended up being disappointed.
Keep sounding the alarm. The cognitive dissidence of the masses is at times, overwhelming. The multi-billion dollar machine spreading misinformation has the masses deceived. Keep sharing your personal testimonies and encourage others to leave the toxic animal & ultra processed food OFF their plate. Every individual's health success, is a success to us all! Never loose your empathy or compassion. Once. we too were under the strong delusion that the SAD was "healthy".
We are constantly fighting for health care to treat us once we are sick. We should be fighting to distribute and follow these type of guidelines to change the health narrative.
It's tough to acknowledge that the vast majority of people will ignore this advice but would gladly take a pill that provided the same benefits while eating the SAD diet.
Test tube or Petri dish is not the same as in blood. The compounds don’t necessarily make it through digestive process. We know there are benefits but it could be more of what you avoid that what you eat. Keep protein and bad chemicals low.
The body is a amazing machine , founded out that each cell has 150 trillion component. From lungs , spleen, kidneys even heart , so it would make common sense to eat foods that nourish these cells .
the main problem is foods that are convenient are simply evil and a lot of people probably rarely eat ACTUALLY WHOLE PLANT FOODS........you know....like eat Twinkies for breakfast, lunchmeat sandwich for lunch and who knows what the dinner looks like.....its rather scary when you start to understand the importance of good clean plant food.....
Chemoprevention is not a bad idea, depending on the protocol used. There have been some excellent benefits documented by administering regular doses of... *iloccorB* 🥦 😉
I believe so too. The pollution unfortunately doesn’t help. We are all not exempt! I learned this the hard way. But do what you can to try to prevent this from happening! Get screened though for early detection. Best
We’re not going to be able to change most people. They’re going to die from not eating like us. Let’s relish in their suffering; the world is overpopulated anyway.
