Hey Dan, love your courses. Is this a short version of a course on your paid website? Was looking at your colour variants section but missing the part where it explains the naming. Thanks Dan
I've bought a lot of your Udemy courses, Dan. And also recommend them to my friends. Just because you are the best design instructor I have ever had. Your courses are so funny and well organized. Thank you so much for your hard work!
The biggest revelation for me has been the world of plugins! They have been a lifesaver. It got me so excited to explore them and see how many plugins I could potentially use to make my workflow more pleasurable and efficient. Thanks for the free advance course, by the way! I'll definitely be checking out your paid course in the future!
Wow.. I've been reading comments about everyone buying Dan's courses from udemy. I don't have the money to buy any of the courses but your channel on RU-vid is just amazing. Thank you Dan.
I usually don't write reviews, but Dan is the man. I watched through this video, then signed up for his course. I'm currently 110 videos deep out of 200. I couldn't be happier with how in depth and comprehensive the course is. He's taught me so much that I'm contemplating making a 'credits' page in my app to show my appreciation. Best $10 I've ever spent! Cheers Dan & BYOL team : )
Hello Dan! I cannot express my gratitude enough for your course. Your ability to simplify fundamental rules and use cases in UX/UI has been immensely helpful. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to you. You have made it incredibly easy for us, and I hope to apply your teachings to contribute to creating better designs for the world.
The BEST Figma Tutorial I have had the real pleasure to follow. Wayyyy better than the Figma original ones! The pacing, the tone, the details, the ADDITIONAL explanations, they why and how of critical features! What a delight and luck you are out there! Thank you!!!
This masterclass is awesome, I might subscribe to course the after finishing this. In the meantime: I learned that 1. Elements in a nested component can't be deleted, they will just hide. 2. I also learned that even if the 8-point grid is a good practice, we should check Material design guidelines, Bootstrap and Tailwind frameworks to know the recommended spacing for gaps/gutters, and that complying with the framework specs used by the devs will make them happy :). 3. I learned that to save the constraints for a component, the component needs to be inside a frame, this way, the constraints will apply in all instances it's going to be used, nice!
Hi Dan! I’m a 26-year-old full-time mum and I’ve recently discovered UI/UX Design. It’s fascinating! I’m a beginner and I’ve already watched your Essentials Course and was considering subscribing :)
I have Tried Many Figma Courses From Many Respected instructors but You are THE BEST FIGMA INSTRUCTOR to ever exist No question about it, I'm actually a student and trying To save money to buy a membership on your website. But thankyou for this free preview.
That was structured differently than other Figma tutorials I've watched, which is great, and I learned some new tricks! I appreciate that it was focused more on documentation and structure than making one flashy design. Thank you!
I finally understand that in order to get developers to code my designs pixel-perfect, a designer has to set it up correctly so they can easily see the spacing (margins/padding) to be used and so on. Thanks for a super thorough explanation!
The key revelation for me was how to structure nested components by putting instances of components inside container components so you can control the contained instances from the master components. Very insightful.
I bought your courses last month. I'll never regret this decision. It is sooo much fun. I'm half way through my figma essentials course. Can't wait to finish it, and start the advanced one!
just doing the first course now. moving along pretty quick, so will be on this one next! loved your AE course. had me animating for work immediately. best adobe instructor out there.
Hello, Dan! My revalation as a beginner was Alt + L, for those who don’t know it collapses all opened layers - like if you’ve got a frame with 10 things in it, it will collapse it to parent frame and thats been super useful to me, hope it helps someone else as well!
For users having problems with the Autolayout's automatic icon spacing, go ahead and deselect 'Absolute Position' for each individual icon that has that feature selected.
ur actually the best teacher in the world u mention the tiny details that might not seem like a big deal but those tiny details are what really sets someone from being proficient to an expert and i appreaciate that because im one of those people that care about those tiny details :)
Resources to understand design standards on android, IOS, tailwind, and bootstrap were very helpful. quite frankly, I didn't know where to gather the knowledge from. Thanks.
I just would say that I finished this course, it was so informative, this course enable you to take the knowledge in a funny and excited way, I really recommend to follow this course. Congratulations for everyone who finished this course! you did it, keep going on! , and I want to say Thank you so much for making this video Bro I really appreciate your nice work and I wish you a bright future. 👌
Everything has been helpful and new to me, I’m new to figma and I have just been designing with boxes and going based on feel. This has been eye opening.
19:45 you can also double click the auto layout grid box as well and it will switch it to auto spacing too, Just another quick way. Also something that was my "I wish I knew this before" was the design doc for android (m3) and iphones, thats really helpful. Ive been looking for a more specific sizing for everything for a while now so that was really helpful!
Adding this to my Watch List! I can tell this is gonna be really insightful! I’ll come back to my comment and let you know how it goes! Thanks for creating this in-depth video!! 🤝
This is one of the best, if not the best course I watched on Figma. Well organized and super structured. I will definitely go to BYOL and be a subscriber to watch the entire course. Thanks Dan!
Mate, absolutely loved the 2 hours + useful content, learnt a lot of new things about constraints and auto layout , plugins, widgets, rows. Thank you indeed.
Thank you so so much! Not only you're an amazing teacher but you're also really kind to share your knowledge! This is the best online class I've ever seen.
the power of auto layout, crazy i had designed some project previously without properly utilizing auto layouts but this knowledge has been a game changer
Thank you Dan for all your videos!!! Such great material for a beginner like myself and understanding the functions of Figma. I have learned some great tips and shortcuts along the way so far. Looking forward to completing more with you!
Vectorize is my favorite Figma plugin. The prototype feature is by far my favorite, as a designer to see your design finished and its functions working is a great feeling.... similar feeling to taking your socks off after a long day.
How much I appreciate your amazing Figma tutorials on your channel. Your videos have been incredibly helpful and have made learning Figma so much fun! Your clear explanations and practical examples make it so easy to follow along and improve my skills. I do have a question though - where should I submit the assignments you mention in your videos? Is there a specific link or platform you prefer? I'd love to get your feedback on my work! Thank you for all the hard work you put into creating such valuable content. Keep up the great work!
This video was very helpful. Lots of useful tricks. I wish I discovered Dan earlier. Watching 30+ courses is a lot. If it was broken down to groups of topics I would be interested. Seeing how you teach it in a tutorial format really helps. Eg small group of videos on the topic of animation. Another one to create responsive website etc...
I had no idea you had to be zoomed in to a certain level to see elements like 'tidy up' etc!!! bahahah crazy. Also I took sooooo long to realise my mac mouse could in fact zoom in super quick! Sometimes I just feel so dumb and other times I feel like a figma champ! I guess we all go through it... Dan is definitely one of the best figma trainers I've found for sure!
Helpful tip, changes to constraints on a main component don't seem to copy to instances (it's why he had to keep making the change manually when he was talking about the first task)
You are very wonderful at explaining and the information in this course is great, not found anywhere else My notes: 1- Please speak a little slower while explaining 2 - I hope you can make a video about building a website from scratch 3- Continue publishing what is useful on your channel because you are amazing
1:37:30 - Knowing this shortcut could have saved me so much time, I thought this was a feature that is missing in Figma. Thank you for this video, it helped me
OMG, this is exactly what I have been looking for... You are amazing! Other people are charging heaps and they aren't even covering everything that you have taught in this video. Thank you so much!
Dan Scott, I love you. I love your style of teaching; the best online Tutor I've ever seen. Already finished the beginner's essential's, and now on the advanced course. I'll join for the full course very soon. Thanks man.
Thnak you! those small tricks I didn't know existed. 💯 One of the unique thig I leart was how we can not make components within components. I was suprise to see how figma threw out the componest within the organism. Maybe that's why I like the atomic theory of making desing systems.
I honestly love all of the plugins! Coming from the Adobe suite, I was hesitant at first to give up what I knew, and realizing figma can do everything I need and more. #BYOL1
Thank you for giving it for free. i saw many of your udemy courses being provided for free on youtube. We appreciate you sir. I benefits a lot for students form remote Asian countries where buying a udemy course is just impossible. We have no method to pay the amount since no payment method is supported in our region. Thanks and we appreciate you sir ❤
A 2-hour Figma masterclass - now that's a deep dive! We at Ceros appreciate comprehensive tutorials that provide an in-depth understanding of key tools. Your content is a great resource for designers looking to level up their skills. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the incredible resource. I did not know about the scale shortcut (k) and have been scaling things all wrong. Lots of other great tips, but that one was a real obvious tip that I've totally missed and appreciate
At minute 44, you ask us to share what our 'aha' moment has been so far - mine is that you can't add or change an icon in a component (ie, nav bar) unless it is the main component. That part also cleared up for me what an 'instance' is. Hoping we talk about variants, too!
Thank you so much for this toutorial! its teach me a lot nore than just a figma. I like the idea to give the phone frame size as the same size as my phone. and that you shows all the ather tips and grate plugins that could save my alot of time if only i discover tham half a year ago...):
Advanced copy and paste, i frowned my face, only to hear Daniel say "yes copy and past" like he was talking directly to me😂😂😂. Well I learnt the past to replace.. pretty advanced. Thank you Daniel
the content of the training is wonderful, but if I may suggest, it would be perfect if the shortcut keys were also displayed on the screen separately for UX purposes.
