You know what? After waging pros and cons I've ordered one through your referral link - enjoy whatever percentile of sales you're getting in that partner program. Who knows maybe I will actually like it ;) Btw. I've found out how to change battery, they use generic battery pack available all over Chinese websites - worst case scenario you can ever cobble together your own battery pack and reuse the controller. It's a bit disappointing however there isn't easily removable battery as there IS plenty of space inside to add casing. Battery pack is literally held in place by thick pieces of foam to not rattle around.
@@Micromation if you ever tackle this please make a short video. I wish they would just design to use the L2 battery on the majority of them and offer the smaller as a downgrade if it’s not needed.
Can you do me a massive favour and measure the length of seatpost jutting out of the frame for your height please? Sooner rather than later would be greatly appreciated as I've bought a seatpost which may be too small ...
Some thing worth testing is the ability to wheel it around after its folded, many folders can be pulled around by their seat or handle bars because otherwise they are very awkward to move..
I bought the d2s for 482 euros. Has rear suspension smaller wheels and battery 2kg heavier. The reason why these bikes don't have regen is because they are geared motors. Direct motors have regen. This is also why there is a weight limit on these for the gears inside the motor. A lot of users change the front chain ring to 58t and change to cheap 30 euro mechanical-hydraulic hybrid caliper for better breaking power and less need to adjust the alignment of the break piston.
I brought the Fiido D2 wheels at 16 inches with rear suspension which makes riding over bumpy ground with out a lot of vibrations, giving less punctures, strain on wheel forks and components. The weight is 19.5 kg = nearly 43 lbs which is too heavy unlike other folding bikes like Brompton which some people say its a heavy bike at around 28 lbs! I really peddle and just use electric power on mid throttle to have the bike do all the work and enjoy the ride taking me around 4 miles (6.4 kilometres) to and 4 miles (6.4 kilometres) back before the battery runs out. My improvement on the Fildo (D2) wound be to make it a lot lighter, fold down a lot smaller so you can take it on a bus, coach, car, train, office and air plane by putting it in your hand luggage compartment like a Brompton bike and travel a lot further just on electric power and faster just on foot power since its 52T chain crank moves you along at snail pace Achieved by using the Brompton vertical folding mechanism which patency has now expired to fold it up very small, the battery placed in a removable (long down) bag on the bikes front handle bars where you could store up to 4 extra batteries to travel much further and more foot power bike speed by using bigger chain cranks from 52T to 58T . The reason I brought this bike and my 1st electronic folding bike was its competitive budget price around £500 to £600, variations in models eg 3 gears or 6 gears , quality construction, looks and RU-vid recommended reviews but because of the improvements needed you can see why many people buy the over price Brompton's due to folding down size, weight and speed.
Really enjoyed this review and the presentation. Thank you for not being afraid to venture into the budget e-bike category out of your bread and butter of phones, tablets and laptops etc. - This would be ideal if they had hydraulic brakes. I have had mechanical disc brakes in both the shimano and tektro guise and they are fantastic at stopping don't get me wrong as its still brake pad on steel disc but it's not fun day in day out. - Re-gen is not the end of the world imo, the removable battery too isn't as it can be folded nicely and brought into said home/apartment. - I wonder if the r&d needs too much effort with the routing of hydraulic brake cable routing relative to the route of the mechanical brake cable through the frame to not kink horribly when in the folded state. Not a knock on your review as it is fantastic, only that this style of bike and price category in my opinion should be another say £100/$100 with a good hydraulic system behind it before I whack my credit card details in. Thanks for the effort you put in to your channel, I always thumbs up and comment when I watch as I know that helps pump the youtube algorithms.
Thank you for the feedback and comments. I'm looking to swap to the hybrid hydraulic pistons via cable upgrade that some have recommended here. Front shock would be great since my local roads are terrible. I've been riding to and front my house to town with this bike.and it been great. I think only with those two additions I would be happy to pay a little more for it.
Thank you so much for the review. Was a bit hesitant about buying this because it's cheap and claimed to do 80km, whereas lots of ebikes in that price range only do "up to 20km". Great to know that it has at least 60km in it which is way more than enough for my 16km daily commute with some steep hills 👍👍
Hi, nice review as always. I'm buying one this week but worrying about changing rear tyre. Does the D4s have a connector near the back wheel like most ebikes or have they cheaped out and not put one. Meaning you have to pull the cable through the rear axel nut all the way from the controller?
Hend, I have the Fiido D1 with 36v10ah (the same battery) and I got 30-35km of range in full throttle with small tires and 65kgs. Perhaps with these 20inch tires, you can get 35-40kms of range. Great review, I love these ones about green mobility.
At least front suspension feels like a must - back doesn't really need one IMHO. So are fenders (what? it's always wet over here in the UK). I wish there was aftermarket option for the front. I would also replace mechanical disc brake with V-brakes. Decent V-brake will outperform this piece of rubbish.
@@Micromation look for the samebike xw-20ly, it has almost same design and the front fork has a suspension. So I'm sure it can be bought by itself.. And they do sell the fenders in banggood for like 25 euros. They're giving them as a gift for the first 50 d4s buyers or somtn like that.
@@klanko64 rear light you can add a xiaomi mi 365 back fender led light. Only costs about 3 euros... The d1, d2, d2s, d11 don't come with back lights.. I'm pretty sure the next one won't either
Good for around 500 cycles these batteries. It is removeable the battery, but not user removeable. A few screws to remove and then unplug and remove it. Fiido should have replacements
The handle folds inbetween the tires which is unusual. The handles should fold outside the tires to make the fold tight. This design makes rolling the bike with the seat in hand probably awkward as the tires are not going to be parallel. Your photo of the tight fold at 3.05 is a partial picture that doesn't show where the handle is. It this fold possible with the handle inbetween?
80km range? Beyond 25% power assist? 25% at nearly 20kg is net loss IMHO. Like, if you can do 80km on 25% assist with 20kg bike, you shouldn't have any issue doing 80km on 10kg bike with no assist. How far does it go on 75% assist? (I write this comment on unboxing part of the video so this question may or may not be redundant).
The back brakes are not well installed, or the wheel, it has a pulsing feeling which is very annoying. I tried to tighten correctly the back wheel spokes but the brakes keep to pulse. Has anyone fixed this?
Fiido X will come in June according to Fiido., but has it the same engine as D11? I was hoping for an engine with more torque. Fiido x seems to have a new locking device for the battery, it is one of my must criteria for buying the bike, but preferably I want better torque as well, Unfortunately maybe the price will be too high on X, Fiido. has already raised the prices of all bikes.
What’s the feel odd the grips and a close up on that seat rotors be good. These are items that often need to be replaced on cheaper bikes like this so seeing the quality would be nice.
The grips are average, not lock grips so if I put a lot of force on them and twist they will turn. Lock grips would be a good upgrade if there is a half one for the right side. The seat is good, no issues and good padding.
Better that it doesn't have braking with the recharging ability.. I had a scooter that had that and the second day I used it, it burned. Had to return that ish
Great video and very informative, thank you. One question though, what sort of speeds can be achieved on the flat by pedal power alone. If you have the number of teeth on the crank set and cassette then I can work out the theoretical speeds for cadence. Many thanks in advance.
Is there more distance between the handlebar and the saddle than there is with the D11? It is so hard to see but the M1 looks so much smaller with less room but the dimensions aren't really different in the specs. I am not tall but have alot of width lol. Deciding between the D4S, D11 of maybe Engwe C20 (pro or not)
The measurements are on their website. I would go with the these over the Engwe C20 which has a much cheaper build (see my review of it) it’s not as good as the D11 or even this bike.
@@Techtablets Thanks. Yes i checked the site but could only find total length of the bikes not the distance between saddle and handlebar. Thought maybe u remembered (not exact numbers but the feel) as u have used both. I think i would choose one of the fiido ones too. Saw they also sell alot of replacement parts. Just found out that for the D4S u can also swap out the controller giving it immediate Peddle Assist which would be great
Have mine 4 months haven't cycled once haha just pull the throttle and I'm away to work it's great I love it I heard there's a way to unlock the speed but I can't with mine
Nice! If you can't unlock it via the screen it might be a cable from the controller that needs to be unplugged. Have a search on Google for how to unlock the speed.
thanks for video .... was considering buying a second hand version of this, but seems electric assist probably needs that torque sensor that they are putting on their newer bikes . D11/21 just so much better design. No suspension,. I guess ADO 20 much much better.
@@Techtablets I don't think you've mentioned it in the review (or maybe it slipped my attention) - can you get fenders for this thing? Either official or aftermarket that would fit? I understand you don't need them in Spain but it rains elsewhere xD
@@Techtablets Well batteries degrade with each full charge cycle, how about replacing battery after, let's say, a year of daily use? It doesn't make sense to get electric bike if one isn't using it often and using it often = chewing through batteries. There is access to them via philips screwdriver I believe, how about getting spares though?
TechTablets.com It’s more about charging off the bike, as I don’t have an electricity hook up outside. But I get that the bike is built to a price, so this sort of feature would cost more. Anyway, great review Chris, hope to see some more electric bike reviews on the channel.
To film those types of "flickery" screens, you either need to wait for dark/dusk to do it or put a neutral density filter in front of the camera lens. That prolongs the shutter speed and captures the whole screen in the picture.
Yoo great review I got the bike a few days it's a cool product. BTW I can read in the user manual that frequent braking is bad for the battery: perhaps someone here knows why? and what is the best way to use the brakes without damaging the battery.
I think I figured out why, for those wondering: when you start pedaling there is some lag before the motor kicks-in to give you that boost, if you brake frequently the controller may engage the motor at the exact moment you press that brake causing the motor to run against the force of the brake and consuming too much energy.
@@accelized3599 thanks for the info. I think you should just avoid unnecessarily playing around with the brakes. Use it as much as you need to, however, if the situation calls for it. For example, when biking at a crowded street. Btw, hows your D4s doing? It’s on my wish list, after shopping around. 🙂
@@MasterKoala777 it's doing great after more than 1 year of usage and I'm still using it! Like any other bike in the market, it requires some maintenance, especially the wheels that needs to be true once in a while (very common on Chinese bikes). For the rest it's really basic maintenance
@@accelized3599 thank you! I was trying to choose between this and the Himo Z20, and really leaning towards the D4s. Cheers and may you enjoy many more years with yours.
Hello! Somewhere I red that if you want to use only pedal you have to turn the bike computer off. Does this affect the functionality of light and horn?
This one is maybe the closest you'll get I find the others the frame is too small, wheels too small. But this one I can put the seat right up and the handle bars
@@Techtablets After seeing your review of D4s I looked up other products they have - I wish they had M1 but without fat tires as it sound like perfect bike (also has easily removable battery). I guess you can just change front wheel but rear would require a lot of work to change :/
Hi, yes full electric is possible with the accelerator at any speed you can take off. For the assist modes it's 10 km it seems to kick in always for me.
@@Techtablets I think twist and go is illegal in the UK, we have ancient laws over here (electric scooters, electric uniwheels, etc. are illegal to ride outside of private property with it's owner permission :( ) and it doesn't look like it's gonna change anytime soon. Assisted pedaling is legal though. Nevermind, UK is not in Europe anymore apparently xD
@@Micromation UK is currently under EU law for Ebikes (I don't think the government will change it but you never know). And in EU law throttle is legal capped at 6kph. Full throttle assist is not.
@@Techtablets In my case, it would be a part time job. In your testing experience, can you recommend a bike with good range but not as expensive? Thanks!!!
I’ve bought this bike recently. I only tried it indoors. My question is when I start pedaling on level 1, after a while el. engine launches and accelerates the bike. However when I stop pedaling the engine keeps accelerating (without using a throttle). In order to quit engine support I have to press the break. Is that normal that after stopping paddling the engine keeps on going?
Several hours to charge for a possible eighteen kilometres , you would walk that and back and still this battery would be charging it's a cheap and cheerful bike but the range is very poor old Tec...
That's with hills and big climbs only motor power and no peddling. So really like a scooter I've reviewed then. But if you peddle a little you can get double and triple the range and much easier than if it was peddling only.
@@Techtablets You don't get nearly enough popularity you deserve. Thank you for that Cube i7 Stylus recommendation back in the day, serves me very well up to this day :)
I would love to know how many prosecutions have occurred in the uk for riding an ebike with a throttle . I will hazard a guess none, another draconian uk regulation.
@@mozzjones6943 I dont think it matters it's the 250w motor and speed not being over 15.5 mph that matters in the UK. Below that its a bicycle above that it's classed as a motorbike. 2 months time EU law is not something that concerns the UK anyway waahoo.
