The official start of sales for FiiO M11S will be at the beginning of September, but I wanted to share my excitement and released this review a bit ahead of time. So, please do follow FiiO's official social media channels to get the most recent updates on availability in your region: facebook.com/FiiOAUDIO/ twitter.com/FiiO_official
Great review as always. I wish I could get these people to follow three basic rules: Outputs belong on top for docking. Type C charging in the middle of base. Two micro sd slots. They are 1 for 3.
You're the best sir! Thanks for helping us with your reviews. Which do you think is the best overall in terms of sound quality and hardware? Ibasso dx170, hiby r5 gen 2 or this fiio m11s?
Thank you! In terms of hardware, I could be wrong, but M11S has fastest CPU In terms of sound I didn't test DX170 yet, as for R5-2 - I mentioned it in the comparisons at the end
@@PortaFi thanks. I'm still considering what IEMs to get. I've updated my 8 year old shure 846 to use balanced 4.4mm cable now that I have a device with balanced output! It sounds better than the 3.5mm cable I had before and it's more comfortable/less stiff. Also, I can use the same cable on my 7hz Timeless. I considered headphones but decided to go for a newer IEM and I'm considering the Sennheiser IE600 (I can't justify spending out on a Monarch Mk2). I've also been going through getting old CDs so that I can use WAV format where ever possible - I found that it sounds better for a lot of the recordings I have than the FLAC version (and I have enough storage space on my devices now).
@@Andyhandle unfortuatenly I didn't test IE600. Local distributors focused on wireless models and some cheap gear, as it has the highest interest. Audiophiles are rare clients nowadays :) But luckily we have lot of choice anyway, and a pretty good prices, compared to EU as taxes are lower
@@PortaFi and I've just discovered that using 4.4mm balanced cable and the increased power from the A&K dap has given my very old Audeze LCD2c headphones a new lease of life. Previously, I had been a bit disappointed by them in some of the upper mids compared to my IEMs (they are quite heavy though in comparison).
@@Andyhandle sure, in terms of speed in treble balanced armature drivers will give a different perception compared to full-size headphones' drivers. But after some time my ears accommodate to difference. As for weight, yes, audiophile should have a really strong neck :)
Thank you! Unfortunately, I didn't test any of Focal models, so I can't say anything here. Based on other reviews, Stellia can benefit of a more high-level DAP that will be more technical, but it's an assumption
Nice! I just preordered this bad boy. I was wondering what I should go with. I haven't owned a DAP since my DX150. I was wondering if I should go with a DX170 or this. And well I already have the Fiio IEMs lol. So may as well stick with Fiio. Lol can't wait.
Might be a stupid question, but when you were comparing 11S to BTR 7, was the M11S the device you were referring to when you described it as “more focused on the micro contrast & analytical?” I am thinking about returning my BTR7 because I need something with a balanced line out…is the M11S at least on par if not better in sound quality?
No, I meant M11 Plus there. Compared to it BTR7 is more focused on microcontrast and thus sounds a bit "thinner" and more analytical. But for me M11+ sounds more natural as it's better distributing weight As for M11S, it's slightly better than BTR7, but I won't call this difference big. So BTR7 is a pretty decent option for that size and price
Fiio's prices are really legit. I own many of their products and they are all hands down some of the best stuff I've seen as far as quality goes for the price that you pay.
Thank you for revew! Am I right, that Fiio M11S better than iBasso DX170 in terms of natural and balanced sound? I've had Opus#1S for 4 years and now I'm looking for smth new...
What are your thoughts between the now "older" Fiio M11 pro vs the Fiio M11s. From all of the reviews that I have seen it appears that many like the sound of the Pro but the OSof this. Your thoughts?
I'm kind of agree with that reviews. Sonically, M11 Pro is slightly better, it's more balanced and organic, while M11S is more monitoring. But M11S indeed has a newer OS and chipset, so I'd probably select it, as I use streaming and other stuff that benefits from a faster CPU
Hi, thanks for such nice review. Actually I’m waiting your review about ibasso dx 170 before making my mind. I was about to buy the m11 plus ess but i was not totally convinced about sound dynamic and the dap was pretty bulky. Shanling m3 ultra is now launched, maybe it will be a dap to consider. Not easy to choose especially when can’t try them.
Unfortunately, DX170 is still somewhere in the process of delivery. It takes a really long time for official cargo As for M3 Ultra - it's in the nearest plans :)
nice, another dap review, seems like fiio's & ibasso daps share the same sound signature, for me is too crispy & light / bright, make music not so fun anymore. as always great vid pavlo, God Bless u & fam
I know you haven't tried the ibasso dx170. But does this player sound almost as good as the dx240 with amp8 mk2? Or does that ibasso setup sound significantly better?
no, it won't be huge, M11S is more neutral and balanced. for me it builds a bigger stage too but it's not guaranteed that you'll like M11S more, as it's also a matter of subjective preference. do you like a signature of HIPDac? If yes, better consider something like Shanlings
Eyeing for my first DAP still saving which one Is shanling m3x or Fiio m11s can you take note? or photo comparison, in your review channel like in headfi
Great review. I stream lossless using Apple music. Is there any system wide eq I can use for Apple music? Does poweramp app work on this device to eq apple music?
Very appreciative for the review. Solidified my desire to preorder But a small suggestion as this is what kept me from subbing to you 10 advertisements. TEN! For a 26 minute video I was interrupted 10 times.
hey porta... is there any chance u will check out the HiSense Touch? its an hybrid of an e-reader and portable hifi player. petty interestsing device actually. would love to hear a opinion of a hifi guy like u
Hello, unfortunately chances are low. Idea is brilliant, and I thought about the player with E-Ink screen for so many years, but it's not available at local distributors. And purchasing it from abroad will cost me pretty much in terms of tax
I don't use Apple Music for offline, I have a good collection of tracks for offline usage. But in general, Apple Music here is simply the Android version of official client. So, saving is the same as everywhere
R6 2020 is more focused on microcontrast and sounds more monitoring. as for interference - I didn't experience it, but maybe it's a matter of band selected by phone/router
This or the Shanling M3 Ultra? Mostly listen to electronic, house/trance/progressive, dub, reggae and very few instrumental bands. I already have a few Fiio products, FHE Eclipse IEMs, K7 DAC, Fiio UTWS5. I prefer the form factor of the M3U and all reviews I've seen so far say that it's a warmer sound signature. Plus Shanling support seems crap, their website won't even open for me to download updates. Would appreciate your input, thanks.
Well, if you like FiiO's sound (K7 for example), M11S will be a good choice for you. But Shanling is indeed warmer, so first of all it's a matter of your preferences here. For updates, yes, indeed. Shanling hosts their update on something that is really bad accessible from the rest of the world, so it's often necessary to search for re-uploaded firmware on Head-Fi. I don't know why they didn't use some regular CDN
unfortunately, I didn't test AK-120II, so I can't tell about the sound, but in general update to a some newer model with faster UI and features like streaming is a good idea. At least to my subjective opinion
Shanling is warmer overall, so it's a pretty obvious matter of tastes here As for DX200, "by memory", DX200 is more focused on micro-contrast and because of that sound more monitoring
@@PortaFi i just think did you remember what better source will be for kinera na na? v1 i m puzzled i want just end my mid fi jurney and wana have fun with my music library . Or is better to buy a portable dac amp my price rang be to 600$ ? Did fiio 11s or 11plus be better overall in sound or other devices like this ibasso dx 200 ? I want expose the crisp heights and well definied mids bas can be just avarage is fiio or ibasso are roll off?
@@epoza8552 if you want to highlight treble, then more energetic DX200 will be a better choice for you. Of course FiiO or iBasso aren't "roll off", but representation is slightly different
@@epoza8552 I think you can't go wrong with either one of those soundwise. Although FiiO's might be the safer option since those are much more recent models than DX200, and as such have a considerably less outdated hardware & software. Hence they're more future-proof and will provide a more pleasurable overall user experience. If you have got no need for a dedicated standalone device for audio playback or might have a second smartphone/entry-level DAP in your possession - going for a DAC/Amp may be a better option.
