With all respect to Saimoni Vuatalevu and Kapena this rendition of this great song is in my opinion the best. To any Fijian people out there, who is the actual composer of this tune ? Roughly what do the lyrics mean ? The Web gives no information.
I'm glad that there a lot of people worldwide liked this song that I composed back in 1986. Despite pronouncing the words incorrectly by some Groups, I always admire them trying out the song and enjoyed singing it. "Tucake Mai" is the real title of the song & NOT "Tukake Mai" and simply means "Stand up Lets Dance"......no worries... only one or two steps you'll be alright " The song won the Best Composition in the Fiji Music Awards in 1886. International Awards : > February, 1998 South Pacific International Song Contest in Gold Coast, Australia, won the following Awards : 1. 1st. Prize in World Music Category 2. Best South Pacific Song 3. Best South Pacific Performance My Group performed live at the Gold Coast Arts Center, among'st 19 Finalists, Worldwide. > November, 1998, USA Songwriting Competition ; - Won the Overall 2 nd. Prize. The Song is registered with the Fiji Performing Right Association, Fiji Islands, in 1986 under my name, Saimone Vuatalevu as the Composer of the song. Hope the little brief on the Song would be appreciated by all who love "Tucake Mai".
Much appreciation for the reply. I am from USA and this song has gotten me very interested in All of the Pacific Islands thier incredible music, history and culture. I will look for more of your videos and music. Kapena does a good job on the song and for a few months I thought it was his . Your rich baritone voice really makes this tune shine ! Again, thanks.
Just some constructive criticism.. the pronounciation is tu-tha-ke mai and not tu-qa-ke mai...fijians would have picked this up also but otherwise great cover...your voice is sick bro! Look forward to more covers...
