The Han navy only follow the coastal/shore of the mainland china and Hainan to support their campaign for conquering Northern Vietnam. Vietnam is using the East Vietnam Sea around 1000 years before W. Zhou rulers mentioned it (that's another story). The earliest record the that the chinese cross from mainland china or taiwan to Philippines is during Tang dynasty around 9th century CE, for trade.

Part I fact/history - there is no historical evidence that the WPS belong to china. The south china sea was mentioned during Western Zhou dynasty around 700BC, they call it "pinyi" correct translation is South Sea, not South Zhou Sea or not china sea. W. Zhou dynasty, never conquer the china's southern/Coastal provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong Guangxi. W. Zhou never conquer of Taiwan or Hainan, let alone navigate and record the WPS. The only known seas to W. Zhou is Bohai, Yellow and East China. The "South Sea" that the W. Zhou referring is the waters around and south of Taiwan and as far as Hainan, Not the WPS and surrounding Island.

Ask this....1. Show Me a 9-line map of the South China Sea, dated back during Western Zhou, Han, through Yuan, the Ming and Qing Dynasty. NONE!... 2. What is Latitude and Longtitude of each so-cold 9-Line?, What is the distance to the Land mass / or nearest coast? NEVER STABLISHED...3. What is the name of the chinese maritine navigator who map-out the 9-Line? and What date?. The only 9-Line Map of (WPS) that I seen is dated back 1947.
