The Filipino community has deep roots in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood and now there's a push to put their cultural district on the map. Kelsi Thorud reports. (7-27-23)
SF and CA in general needs to curb its crime, drugs and homelessness before businesses can start to really thrive in these big cities. Not enough tourists/visitor foot traffic to make it profitable especially for small business.
if the large area where the new st mary's school on kearny and jackson was not burned down by accident, filipinotown will be next to chinatown and italiantown. it is good to have a place called filipinotown! but the city really needs to clean up the area! too much crime, drugs, and homelessness!
The difference is that neighborhoods like that come out naturally like the mission or Chinatown which were areas were such races ended up establishing themselves and they have their own architecture and schools and stuff, it’s different for soma were there isn’t even a big Filipino community there and it’s more known for urbanization and homelessness than for a couple of Filipino restaurants coincidently bunched together there. When you walk in soma you don’t see anything remotely Filipino there unlike Chinatown or mission or Japan town
It won't bring more people into the city. Make more districts like Little Italy with sidewalk cafes and restaurants. It'll be a cash cow. Perhaps turn Market Street into Champs Elise? San Francisco has good bones to do it.
BRO, THEY CALL HOODS.....AINT NOBODY BE VISITING NO RUN DOWN PLACES LIKE THAT.... EVERY MARTIN LUTHER KING STREET GOT THE HIGHEST CRIME....YALL NEED YO CLEAN UP YALL JOODS FIRST....YALL KNOW THIS FACTS....
