They're called "kakanin" because they're mostly made of rice (kanin), and they're like filipino "pastries." The pichi-pichi is also made of cassava. The maja is like a custard made from coconut milk. "Pandan" is a really aromatic grass used for flavoring.

No wonder we got full so fast 😆 rice rice rice! We really enjoyed the pichi pichi and maja Blanca, those 2 were 🔥. The buko pandan really messed with our taste buds (in a good way), we were trying to figure out the flavour but failed 😆 loved it though!

Most food products are made of rice flour. The cassava cake is made of cassava (root crops), and buko pandan is made of coconut, milk, and pandan(gelatin) it best if it's chill no need for additional ice, coconut flakes can be put on sapin sapin, kuntsinta, and makjablanka. They are not too sweet but in the sense you need to fill up your stomach while eating snacks.

Before when my Mom was still alive, she often ask me to buy these foods at a nearby "palengke" (market place) for breakfast or afternoon snack. Kakanins are also good with hot choco especially during Christmas season, hot tea / ginger tea (salabat in Tagalog) and of course... Coffee ☕😊 Take care always you too and thank you for always having Filipino foods in your mukbang sessions 🤗💟

In Iloilo Philippines, we usually paired puto with two of the popular noodle soups , La Paz Batchoy (from La Paz District) and Pancit Molo (Wanton Soup) (from Molo District) than Dinuguan. (Pork Blood Stew) ✌🏻 La Paz Batchoy is made of Fresh Egg Noodles, and broth made from boiled Pork Bones, Pork Meat, Pork Liver topped with crushed pork cracklings, minced fried garlic and green onions. Then add a little bit of soy sauce and black pepper to enhanced the flavor.. Pancit Molo is made from ground pork or ground chicken wrap in dumpling or wanton wrappers and broth made from chicken or pork stock sauted with minced garlic, minced onions, ground pork or shredded chicken topped with green onions and shredded left over wanton or dumpling wrappers.

11:18 thats why i think it’s best if you taste the food one of each or a portion of each. Don’t eat everything right away. if you eat everything immediately before moving to the next type of food, you’re gonna get full quickly. And when you’re full, you can’t appreciate the last foods you ate. you’re doing a disservice to the last foods you eat.

I very much agree. downing the whole huge banana turon at the beginning would already make them feel near full. and then they ate everything entirely along the way. sapin-sapin and pichi-pichi are very filling. i kinda felt bad for them forcing themselves eating the last foods because the guy on the left kept saying he’s full. can’t do a proper taste test when you’re already full.

As for the kutsinta, my auntie who isn't Filipino is the only one who makes it in the family for holiday gatherings. 😃 We sprinkle coconut flakes on top of the kutsinta. Love it when you guys do the Filipino food. it makes me happy seeing you guys enjoy it. Oh, a thought came to mind... would you guys ever try balut? Just wondering on your reaction to that. Filipino desserts can be broadly classified into two, the native kakanin desserts and the hispano-filipino desserts. The desserts you've featured are mostly native, called kakanin, a group of desserts made with rice flour or glutinous rice. These desserts remind me of when I was a kid and my mom would buy these for merienda (afternoon snacks). Puto usually has either cheese or salted egg on top. Personally, I think kutsinta is very plain on its own. It's usually eaten with coconut and yema. Buko pandan is basically like fruit salad, only its buko (coconut) and pandan jelly. Pandan has this vanilla flavor to it and I think it's what makes it really good. I'm glad you like sago't gulaman. Just thinking about ot makes me thirsty lol it's just so refreshing!

Those rice cakes are also traditionally paired with barako coffee (filipino coffee), tea, or sikwate (hot chocolate mixed with spices, cinnamon, vanilla, milk, and palm sugar). Barako coffee neutralizes the sweetness of the rice cake while tea is used as palate cleanser. Out of the three, sikwate is commonly used for rice cake dipping aside for drinking; to add more flavor. Hope you can taste them too as well. 😊
