Here we're working on a simple Kali sombrada or counter for counter drill called high box at the wonderful Legacy Academy.
We're doing a fixed drill for now, a fundamental drill as there's lots of moving parts to get down. Distance and timing being some of the most important.
This isn't free sombrada where you can hit any angle but it's a great place for people to start and also to hone the details that make you really effective later when you're just sparring or playing.
Notice my use of distance. I'm either in the middle (the worst place to be-like being in neutral in a car) then I'm either moving forwards or back. Fight or flight. So you've got a sort of three card trick. I learn to bridge the gap timing wise in true Jeet Kune Do tradition. Whether you call it Arnis, or Kali or Eskrima the principles of combat are the same everywhere.
