Its interesting that Filipino martial arts developed under the shadow of the spanish mandate that swords were illegal to the populace. Ironically as the sword became obsolete the martial arts of the philippines would become one of if not the most famous to be taught to commandos and special forces
SUGBU-ANON (cebuano), HILIGAYNUN, WARAY-WARAY. are the three mean Branches of VISAYA TRIBES of VISAYAS! We BISAYA TRIBES are Originated in SARAWAK, SABAH, MALAYSIA, BORNEO, INDONISIA. and we are the BLOODS OF MAHARLIKANS!
Ng panahon ng gyerang hapon maraming beses beses nilang napatunayang nilang napakapanganib ng pilipino martial arts kaya tinawag nila tayong the black current..
Some people consider the stick rediculous. But the stick alone is a practice tool, least its already deadly, with the real concept in mind is the use of bladed weapons. This is the art form of a combat system.
Tbf catching the blade is only useful if you're gonna do some kinda weird move or go for a kick, I'd just use one stick to parry and the other one to strike (at least that's how it's done in hema but maybe it's different here for some reason I haven't figured out yet)
Filipino martial arts is basically mixing asiatique martial arts and sword spanish conquistadors using. I dont know if it is really useful but I have to admit that this guy is really impressive.
Filipinos Arnis are so deadly that americans and olympic committe decided to did not include it as Sports...I'm proud of my Ancestors for decoding the ARnis secret...
I trained Escrima and did a bunch of tournaments and I have to say this gets slept on a lot as a martial art. There is a ton of empty hand training, the cardio and upper body workouts are awesome, your shoulders will be on fire in the beginning and it’s got a cool history. Glad to see it posted here. Doce Y Pares!
@@rodrigodasilva7862Apparently you haven't have a clue what the Filipino Martial Arts is all about like the one he's talking about, and also like Arnis and Kali. But I'm sure you've seen the movies that the actors have to be trained for months that these are being used like Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy, Captain America, I, Frankenstein, Taken 2, Formless, Furious 7, The Book of Eli, 300, and many more. You may want to research Filipino Martial Arts before you say anything that will make you sound ignorant.
It's called Escrima or Kali, I had a college professor who claimed he had a match against Matt Damon in a Kali tournament in the UK. He also showed our whole class photo's of the teacher he trained with in the Phillipines, they trained on bamboo rafts that were afloat on a lake, he also claimed that wrestling water buffalo was part of the training as well. Apparently, the trick to take down one of these water buffalo was to grab them by the ears and twist their heads until they lost balance. Cool professor, his name was Peter Conti, feel free to look into him.
It’s actually called Arnis De Mano…Escima and Kali are descriptors of the blade work.. But the Arnis is the art those umbrella under The starting concept is we use bamboo to not hurt ourselves while training and sometimes when good enough you use blades but essentially the bamboo is an extender to allow the practitioner to understand the exaggeration of the limbs and work back to the most sophisticated tool which is the hand Hence Arnis De Mano.. Art of the hand
@@SBHighlander_74 , It is spanish world, the local term is KALI... escrima is became International sport, it is differ to kali... You can see the called fencing sport, it is escrima in spanish
@JelajahNagariKitoOfficial Dulunya filiphina termasuk wilayah nusantara bos.. bahkan kamboja laos myanmar sampai india selatan dulunya juga wilayah nusantara
I love the fact thisguy looks like an average Joe. Better to respect everyone. Never know what another person knows. Short guy with a belly can actually ruin your day.
Arnis De Mano ….. quite deadly the Filipinos during the wars against oppression are often denied use of the machete as a result they trained in the Arnis De Mano ( Art of the hand ) using bamboo as the most unskilled practitioners could use them and eventually replace them With the machete … however the concept is the bamboo is to understand the exaggerated moves and extension of the body and as u become more proficient work closer to the body and master the fighting with the most sophisticated weapon which is the hand
@@sakuranohana1014 That is a great point. In the Philippines the weather is usually very hot and any extra gear is not desirable. Check out the traditional clothing its almost close to naked 😂😂😂
@@sakuranohana1014interesting. weapon to weapon version of mma. Westerners are already doing that kind of competition with claymores, halberds etc. Now let's see asian weapon martial arts.
I learned about this art from a special forces friend of mine who trained in the Philippines when he was deployed. We did a lot of grappling as well. I trained kung-fu and karate before we met, also had some backyard Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at that time.
