I’m going to win. I have watch a lot of GCN From my sofa for the last couple of months. Watching GCN is the best kind of preparation for winning a bike race.
Between Vlasov and Lutsenko Astana has a good chance. Put Lutsenko in the break on day one or two to get some time on the pure climbers. If that works he can sit on during stage 3. If not have him attack from the GC group up to Chalet Reynard while Vlasov can sit on the other contenders (Poels, Haig, Mas, Mollema, De Plus, Bernal). Vlasov for the dub.
No way Piddock ran 13 anything for 5 km. Alex Yee is roughly the same age, is arguably the fastest multisport runner in the world right now and his best, mid season, is 13.26 from racing against the British record holder Mark Scott. Pidcock running close to that in his trackie top, solo, a week after the cross season is utter nonsense.
Right ? can't believe how many times I have seen this information already, they don't even check if this is possible ? The first thing I said when I saw it was "No way" and when you check the strava run and the video of him running, you understand very quickly that this is bullshit lol. He is a great athlete but I don't know why he posted this and even Ineos reposted this...
They banned doping, but not TUE... They banned long socks, but not long shorts... They banned the super-tuck, but not the finish line photographer scrum...
There are cyclist who can descend faster than others on the supertuck. Cyclist have better control of the bike, plus should he crush, he has a lower gravity to reach the ground on supertuck. Its definetely not necessary and it takes away some the fun still left in road cycling
Like the new format. The quick highlights are great and Dan is definitely stepping up the presenting! Still want to see more urban and city bikes on the channel
Yes , agree with you on the safety changes, all cyclists need clear advise on how far we are all able to go and still ride safely, particularly upon the open road which have enough hazards already, barrier types need looking at at finishes some are unsafe in design to be placed next to 100 plus fast moving riders all attempting to win
Exactly what you said Dan regarding the aero tuck. I'm the first to harangue the UCI for their usual nonsense, but it looks like they're finally taking safety seriously. Not just about the pros, it's the youngsters and punters who copy it, on open roads, without the skills.
Will there be an app available for GCN+ so I can watch it on my TV? As much as I want to subscribe it’s going to need an app for a fire stick if I am going to swap my subscription from Eurosport.
Road bottle safety - use steel bottle cages. You can bend them to make them hold bottles more tightly, plus they help the bikes get back to the non-sensical UCI weight limit.
Hey Dan, I'm sure you've thought of this but it would be great to do a bike power test: 1m, 5m, 20m, before your runninng1/2 marathon training hots up to see if your fitness translates at all. I'd appreciate that. I'm sure others would too!
For me, supertuck is a part of cycling. I think UCI should concerned with safety on finish. Corners 200m before the finish line and descents before finish...
Love your channel and definitely going to join gcn plus. But I don't think anyone cares about your first documentary hahaha. We all lived it we all hear it every day all day. Who thought that was a good idea? impressed.
We used to do the 'super tuck' as kids hurtling down superb hills on our bombers, grifters, bmx's, racers etc, but not choppers for obvious reasons - that would be plain daft :)
Speaking of supertuck and Dan riding down hill. Does an ebike have a braking effect going downhill similar to cars and trucks - having an engine brake effect?
They can already make the bikes light enough to have a dropper post on a 6.8kg bike. That would be pretty sick but you know the UCI would ban “active aero” the next year... Just like motorsports taking away all the innovation
Pros: The UCI don’t take safety precautions seriously until it’s too late! Also pros: Why have they banned the super tuck when there hasn’t been a major accident yet?
@@richardking7058 With that mindset, you wouldn't be able to change anything at all as you could always find an argument that something else ought to be changed first.
@@DirtyPoul Not at all. What i'm saying is that we should fix things that already have an effect as opposed to pre-emptively altering things that haven't caused any damage.
@@richardking7058 Why not both? Riding on the tube has not caused any major damage yet because it's such a new thing. It seems to me that it's only a matter of time before it will. Do we think this is a risk worth taking? Some will, but I don't. I think it's good that a dangerous style is getting banned pro-actively before it causes injury or death.
So, there are three or four years of data on the books now in regard to the super tuck. If there is a data set that shows that crashes are caused by, or are more frequent, from the position, then by all means there should be a ban. However, if that data does not exist, then the conjecture may be unfounded. If the data shows we have more crashes while sitting in the saddle, should we ban sitting in the saddle? You see my point? What is the actual potential for crashes caused by the supertuck position? Show me the data!
I can kind of see why the UCI have banned the supertuck... Its not all that safe out on the real roads when budding Fromes and Sagans are trying to emulate it on the Sunday club run with traffic, bad road surfaces etc etc. However, something tells me the UCI didnt have THAT much foresight though.
I call "bullshit" to Pidcock' 5k. If anybody can get hold of Mike Woods he could give you an educated evaluation of the claim. He's a sub 4min. Miler who only managed a 14:14 5k . Damn, just when I thought Pidcock had learned a bit of humility and maybe I could cheer for him, he says something stupid like this.
the UCI are amazing, they ban a descending technique which has probably caused less then 3 or 4 crashes in the past year which pros train to use for years and are incredibly good at hence the low amount of incidents, BUT THERE ARE STILL F-ING ROUNDABOUTS IN THE LAST 500 METERS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS COVERING LITTERALLY HALF THE ROAD A COUPLE OF METERS AFTER THE LINE
When I was racing about 1000 years ago I ran in the off season (and XC skied too).... my best 5000m on the track was 14 and change and I clearly was not a WT rider. I don't doubt Pidcock is quick, but do it again on a track for exact distance and timing and shut those naysayers up.
If any of you remember the movie "The Program", and how knuckleheads were laying in the street and getting run over after seeing it in a movie . I believe it's to prevent young knuckleheads from trying this
I use the supertuck on most rides on fairly short not super steep descents and it actually feels quite safe. Admittedly I am on my own but I don't think the riders should be too annoyed as if no one's doing it theres less of a skill gap and confidence advantage. I shall await the dropper post in the road tour...
About the supertuck ban, this won't prevent amateurs from using this position on the road. Amateurs will continue to use this position. Following this logic, then the UCI should impose a speed limit on the descent, perhaps 30kmh or 40kmh and would continue to be dangerous in case of a fall. I don't know, maybe they should force pros to use training wheels, just in case!?
Hello friends. How can I suscribe to GCN+. I'm in Mexico so I should not be able to see all the races, but I'm looking forward to watch the documentaries. Can you help me?
If the supertuck is banned do you think we will see the return of the Pantani descending style with the belly on the seat and the butt over the back tire?
Can the ban of supertuck lead to the introduction of dropper seat posts? The weight of the frame + wheels + gruoupset + accessories (incl regular seat post) can be easily below 6.8 kg, adding a few hundred grams due to the dropper is therefore more than reasonable to get the total weight above the UCI limit and legally use the supertuck position. I can't see UCI banning riders from sitting on the saddle :)
Im pretty sure carbon top tubes are not designed to be sat on, thats the only good reason i can think of to ban the supertuck. But then how many frames get broken this way?
Maybe, the UCI should regulate the top speed to, lets say 15Km/h... much more safer! Oh of and of course, ellbow and knee pads, wristguards, swimming wings, working boots...
Problem with rider safety is, where is the line? Once you introduce rules, it means there is a line. Any fast dissent is risky, no matter what position. In the past it favored the brave. You could just put a speed limit on it and really make it safe. Eventually cycling will become unrecognizable from its roots.
It will change the dynamics of stage races. Not only that descending position is banned, but also forearms-on-bars aero position is banned as well. We will see way less attacks out of the peleton, especially successful ones, and we won't see any attacks on descents anymore.
Top tube riding given it's illegal: From solo enduro rides, tuck an arm behind one hand on the stem where most phones/computers to steer & can jump both wheels ok. (If ur hand's off_center not so ok) Open roads are bumpy, tt tuck a risk just for racing ok vs barriers, a tight 90° turn or a bottleneck on a sprint day too close to the finish my N⁰ 1 for too many injuries a season. Unspoken, run road sweepers on crits, finish approaches & high speed descents before a race, sacrifice white stripes in rain to steel brush roughening, make luck less a factor. Cheers 🍺
#GCNRacing Keep an eye out for the 25 y/o American Zach Nehr in the Movistar e-racing qualifiers. He’s had some impressive results on the road at the regional level. Good to see young talent getting a crack in the emerging indoor racing scene.
GCN+ is available in Denmark, but we don't have the rights to show the Tour de la Provence there. And yes, that's because somebody else already had the rights in Denmark. Dan.
Is the Superman position also banner , or can it be used instead? How about sitting your butt on the hoods, while resting your head on the seat? I would also add, you shouldn't lift your butt off the saddle. Is UCI legal at all?
Although I cannot decide, whether to think of Arsenal or a formerly shipwrecked mate from the Italian shoreline and what Italians made of him, Ganna's performance is somewhat miracoulous. Just a few months ago, Ganna became a figurehead of the Italian media when he reported about his serious Covid disease. Can anyone else explain his speedy recovery to uber-level from that (mortal or what) virus?
I guess I can get on board with the supertuck ban. I've never had a problem with it except when another rider was doing it next to me in an elite-level CRIT! That's poor judgment.
I take issue with the narrative that procyclists don’t bother to attend their own safety committee meetings. Kiel Reijnen asked to attend the one Gilbert and Trentin were present at and was refused. Who knows how many other riders were refused. Frankly I find it hard to believe only two riders in the whole of the pro peloton were interested in attending.
