FILLER GOAT??? Zatch Bell vs Hyde & Rematch! (Zatch Bell Review) 

Bit of a surprise this time around; some anime-only demons! Since Zatch vs Hyde was for the most part non-cannon, and I only really read tte manga, I've never really payed attention to them. It's cool seeing what I've missed out on. Great video!

WHOA, this is quite the surprise! I thought you would've avoided all of the filler, but it seems you've got a soft spot for filler episodes that involve demon battles! That's very good to know. I thought for sure that this week was going to be covering Tio's introduction, but looks like we've got ourselves a bonus! Like you, Hyde was one of the first mamodo I ever saw back when the show was airing on Toonami. This episode was actually the 2nd one I ever saw all the way through... so it holds a lot more nostalgia for me than it normally should. I don't think Hyde and Eido were introduced for censorship, but I do think it was specifically to showcase a second mamodo so that they could immediately establish the theme of the series... Oh, you and your wiki spoilers. xD I agree that the Megumi foreshadowing was well-handled! All should beware Ogre Kiyo lol The idea that Eido is just this lazy teen who promises to make good use of the power he's given... and then ends up doing nothing out of pure habit... is such a mood. lol I feel like we can all relate to some time in our lives where we talked big about something and then just didn't follow through because we prefer convenience. "Eido even goes so far as to litter after stealing" Good HEAVENS..... First we have bank robbers with rifles, a toned down metaphor for school shooters (Eshros and Shin), and now LITTERING??? What's next for Mochinoki City?! Okay, I can believe that Zatch was able to track the scent of the yellowtail burger all the way to the back area of the school where Zatch first told Kiyo about the Hero of Justice plan.... that's not much of a stretch, since they were already in the vicinity. But for him to track it ALL THE WAY to the WATER TOWER that Hyde and Eido were hiding out at? That's abnormal. And it happens to be because Zatch Bell has a VERY sensitive nose in general, not just for yellowtail! This actually comes in handy a number of times in the future. It's a slightly overlooked detail for our little lightning breather. Oh, Hyde doesn't blow Zatch away with wind. You can see in the original Japanese version that he actually KICKS Zatch into that wall. Whenever you see stupid flashing colors (seizures are no concern for the FCC I guess), exclamation points and stars, or a blue slash striking a black background (except for episode 8 where that slash clip originated from)... it means the dub censored a violent or suggestive scene. Hyde and Eido's ability to stay airborne is definitely a cool advantage we haven't seen in this series before... to be able to push their opponents back with only one spell just by using stealth and flight... is surprisingly effective! Those two have a scary amount of potential. The one thing that bugged me about this episode was that you could tell how filler it was by how VACANT all of Kiyo's friends looked in that water tower. Just getting blown away by all that wind and seeing Zatch shoot the lightning and they're just... TOTALLY oblivious to it all. It makes sense that Suzy would be, but those other three seemed to have almost no personality at all except for the one quip that Kane made before Eido started the conveyor belt... and that's probably because they haven't had an episode yet where they got to show what their respective personalities or hobbies are like. That's how you could really tell that this was filler. Oh, nice use of the High and Scream track from Tenkaichi 3! Toei was pretty real for doing this... the obligatory lightning powers combined with water to make for super-effective damage. It's crazy to think that Zatch and Kiyo never really use water to conduct electricity this way in the manga, so I'm glad they put it in the anime at least. I will say though, at some point Zatch ends up confronting a mamodo with water-based powers in the manga and... well, you'll see for yourself how that battle turns out. lol And yeah, I think most of the fandom agrees that Hyde is more likable than Eido (at least until the character development you just saw). Hyde's just this chill, precocious kid. Probably a lot like Reycom or Sugino would've been if either of them were a little more neutral. You hit the nail on the head when you described Jikirga. Highly pressurized blast with more penetration power. That's exactly what it is, and it's not the last spell you'll see with that kind of property. I'm curious how far you are in the anime, and that reaction to Hyde coming back in chapter 395 is freaking hilarious lol If you thought Bakura taking like 150+ episodes to become relevant again after Battle City was bad, then just you wait xD Oh, and for my favorite mamodo so far... from all of them that you've met so far, I'd have to go with Brago. Second choice would actually be Gofure, the rock dog. I've been playing as him in a gacha game lately and he's really great! Brago did him dirty, but that's just what happens when you end up so far out of your league in the battle for king. Looking forward to Tio and Megumi next time! And this also gives us an additional week to get even more reading material done for you ;) Volume 6 is currently underway!
