Hello. You happen to have come across my video on filling a Lay Z Spa hot tub with expanding foam. I hope you enjoy. Please Subscribe if you can.
I've also thrown in an EO2 impeller repair too.
Please do so at your own risk, I wouldn't recommend unless you're willing to risk damaging the tub or associated parts beyond repair. You have been warned.
Things I forgot to mention:
The bubbles. I no longer have the ability for bubbles. I never used them anyway so no harm, but that may deter you.
The weight. It is a bit heavier. Not too heavy that I couldn't move it around and lift it up to give it a good clean, but bear that in mind. You would have no chance of shifting it when there's any amount of water in there (even a couple of inches at the bottom).
It took me 70 x 750ml tins of expanding foam to fill the tub and 20 x tins to fill the lid.

Well done dude! Glad it worked for you too 👍, just so you know, almost a year on and mine is still absolutely fine.. this seems a good long lasting fix

I'm really considering doing this. Mine I have to put air in every 24 hours at least, or there will be no air at all in the walls. I think today it might not be a cost effective plan, cause now, you'll spend about $1000 to do the same job.

Well done! Mine has a massive split along the bottom seam, I have tried patching it and if that doesn't work I think I will be filling it with foam.

Holding up really well. Only issue I’m having is the floor stitching/glue deteriorating which is unconnected to the foam. Still going strong 💪🏻

Doesn't it make more sense to just replace the hot tub?

I couldn’t get one at the time due to demand. Plus this saved me a fortune because it held onto heat.

Could just buy the new upgraded lay z spa much slimmer less air and a lot harder to puncture and cheaper to run i used to have the same as yours but it was rubbish an the the pump was junk but my new one iv had for about a year and a half now an it's still good

@karlbigmore7949
@karlbigmore7949 2 года назад
@@cbsreed8217 its liquid latex rubber put in air hole and takes few day to set just keep spinning the hot tube inflated if you see the rubber coming out from eny holes put some water proof tape over them and the rubber will seal it from inside

Hi my hot tube size is 4 person how many cans of foam i need ? do i need 40 ? Or I need more 🤔

This is a six person which isn’t that much bigger. I’d definitely same more than 40.

Just a thought..... when the outer finally gives in, could you fibre glass over the foam?

Great job but I'm wondering about the amount of cans you ended up needing. Manufacturers reckon a 750ml can yields about 34 litres of foam, my sums for my LayZSpa Miami (approx volume of the liner is 1681L - 1000L = 681 litres) .. by Soudal's claims, that's about 20 cans.. Am I missing something here? Are Soudal just flat out lying or might there be a better way to get a decent yield from the can?
@ABell676
@ABell676 3 года назад
Something was fishy because it took double what I was expecting to fill it. Probably cheap cans for a reason.
@JustinHornsby
@JustinHornsby 3 года назад
Further reading between the datasheet for the foam and your experience maybe the ambient temperature played a part too. 90 cans is only about 50 quid shy of a replacement liner so until lay-z-spa get stock I'll be leaving an air pump attached, run on a timer LOL. Tempted to buy a few cans to fill the inflatable cover though, and do it inside my house with the heating cranked up. I'd love to crack the expanding foam idea without as much expense.
@JustinHornsby
@JustinHornsby 3 года назад
The inflatable lid thing we've got has always had a puncture. I've got a plan to try some of that foam indoors (with the heating cranked up) & see what the yield is like. I've got a feeling that ambient temperature might make a big difference & save a fair bit of money.
@janinasesmith
@janinasesmith 3 года назад
@@JustinHornsby have you tried it yet? Thinking about doing the same with the lid myself.
@HGSuper
@HGSuper 3 года назад
Soudal say moisten the surfaces with spray to maximise yield. If I remember polyurethane mixes contaminated with water do bubble more. Ambient temp is important too if that cannot be optimised then I am guessing it might pay to gently warm the can in warm (not hot) water before application.

What size tub is yours as I have a 4-6 and so far used 34 got another 6 cans but I don’t think it’s gonna pack it out fully?! The other guys vid says he used 33 cans unless his was a smaller tub? Iv sent a message to ask him jus wondering about yours?

@@ownit5782 yea I think I saw on the subtitles of the vid it said 70-90 cans? But tbh Iv realised why now as all hot tubs probably have different width walls mine is quite wide hence why I got confused at first I didn’t realise this so far Iv used 42 now but think I’m gonna order another 12 cans jus to make sure it’s packed out fully the walls are standing up pretty well as it is but will try to get more in but yeah there’s 2 vids like this one guy used 33 other guy used 70 or 90 then all good so pleased I came across these vids as would have ended up binning it 👍🏼

About 70 for the tub and 20 for the lid. The other lads video is a different type of spa with much thinner walls. I’m loosing 1-2 degrees overnight in this weather and my electricity bill is way down.
