I looked this up yesterday with little to no good results. I search it again to find a result posted 4 hours ago! I was looking into getting into film photography because I wanted an alternative to Polaroid and the phone camera. This seems pretty decent tbh. Love the video btw, especially the High production quality (Edit: subbing at 1.2k, can’t wait to see you grow)

haha that's awesome! thanks! Glad you liked it! Yeah - I think it's okay, and in some ways would be an upgrade from Polaroid. But definitely keeping expectations low is a good thing for this camera - ha. Thanks again!

@@randomoneforstuff3696 last time I checked the µ sold for anything between 100-300 €/$.For that amount I would recomend any 90s Canon Eos (especialy the 2 Digit ones) over the µ. For point and shoots maybe look the pentax espio or nikon variants they seem to be often overlooked and sell for far cheaper.

I'm glad you uploaded this video! I never thought about using a film camera before but seeing it in target did make me curious to use one again because I haven't used one since I was a kid. I know it might not be the best but it's not too expensive so I might consider getting it as a first-timer. So thank you again for the review!

i just bought this camera the other day and i’m really happy to hear that it seems to be worth the price :)) do you prefer developing your film on your own or sending it out to be done?

That’s awesome! Have fun! I like developing my own black and white film, but I get my colour film developed by a lab.

The Onn version of this camera (from Walmart) is currently at $20 and it includes both the battery and a roll of 27-exp ISO 400 color film. I mean, the film is probably worth more than half the price of the camera! I got one today. :) Weird that they recommend 200 or 400 film; with an aperture of F8 and a shutter speed of 1/120, that places it right around overcast, light-shadow days when using *100* film. I would think 200 to 400 would get way overexposed.

Liked your video. My suggestion: never buy a camera without a brand name on the body. The Heyday camera looks like it's manufactured by the same maker of Kodak's M35, Ilford's Sprite 35-II, and AgfaPhoto's Analog 35. All identical in shape and features, and all have a one-element plastic lens. On the other hand, I paid $15 for a 10-year-old Minolta Freedom camera yesterday; it needs lithium batteries, but it gives you a glass lens and -- if you want it -- more control over your photos. You still get a film look, but with better results and fewer light leaks. Thanks.

What would you recommend for a tiny step up? I am looking for a kind of crappy film camera to take to Italy just for fun. @lukewtcleland
@lukewtcleland Год назад
Hey Mollie, You could check out something like the: Ilford harman or the KODAK EKTAR H35 Half Frame. Or if you wanted something even a little better you could get a vintage one. I haven't really used any ones like this but there are a lot of articles about different types you could get for pretty cheap: casualphotophile.com/2020/05/04/ten-great-point-and-shoot-film-cameras-from-25-to-99/ Hope that helps! I love having the one-time disposable cheap cameras, but I was hoping for a cheaper and more-earth-friendly option for someone who doesn't know a thing about film. @lukewtcleland
@lukewtcleland Год назад
Hey Allysa, If it's not winding to 1 that probably means its not catching the film at all. So the film probably hasn't moved - so I don't think you've wasted it! You could try opening the camera again, and making sure its catching those little advance nobs. I made another video about loading film - hopefully it's helpful! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CnWpkm2BxvE.html Let me know if you get it to work!

I have the issue of there still being film outside the canister and can’t get it back in… what do u recommend? Might just count my loss haha
@lukewtcleland
@lukewtcleland Год назад
It is a lot of film? Or just a little bit? Like an inch or two? If there's a lot of film out, and it's been exposed to light then that part of the film is no good anymore. It will just show up blank if you get it processes. But if you opened it in the dark and it wont go back in, you can hold the film canister in your hand, with your index and thumb on the bottom and top of the film roll, and if you rotate it with your other hand, it should pull the film inside the canister. Hope that helps!!

@dannygallagher9290
@dannygallagher9290 Год назад
Then you take the complete roll out of the camera, and develop the photos. Then you can put a new unused roll of film in.
@andrewkorzenik5952
@andrewkorzenik5952 Год назад
You can mail the used roll into a developing service or else see if there’s a photography store that develops photos in your area. Then you reload the camera with a fresh roll of film to take more photos. I’d recommend you look for an ISO 400 film. That’ll get you decent exposure outdoors and with photos indoors with flash. Good luck! Film photography is one of my favorite hobbies and if you stick with it, it’ll bring you a lot of joy!

Bought this today and cannot get the flash to work for the life of me 😅 even after switching out batteries. Is the flash supposed to be clicked to the left or right when you’re looking at the camera lens straight on?
@lukewtcleland
@lukewtcleland Год назад
I believe it is to the right, so you can see the flash symbol. There should be a red light on the top of the camera that lights up when the flash is ready to fire. If you've tried a few new batteries and it's not working, it may be that the flash is broken, I would take it back and get a new one. They are pretty cheap cameras, so don't be surprise if it doesn't work super well!

What would be the difference to using Portra 400 film & Fujifilm 400 film in terms of how the photos look?
@lukewtcleland
@lukewtcleland Год назад
To most people, there isn't much of a difference. They are pretty similar, but from what I remember (I haven't shot a lot of fuji 400) is that they greens are a little different, and Portra can be a little warmer at times. However, I spoke with a longtime employee at a film lab, and he said depending on your preferences at a film lab, you can make either of them look pretty much identical. Fuji does have chemical differences, part of which is why it is discontinued, because that one particular part they can no longer or don't want to source anymore - I can't remember the reason.

You have to wind the film back up into the spool. You take that out of the camera, send it to a lab that will process the film for you, then you can either scan the film yourself, or get that lab to scan it for you. Then you'll have the digital version of the photo.
