Here I review the Hasselblad 503CW! I'd never gotten to play with a Hasselblad before, so this was quite the treat.
Thanks to Englewood Camera for letting me use the unit.
Check them out at: www.englewoodcamera.com

Vello Flash Bracket: amzn.to/2gv8BaM
Panasonic G7 Camera for filming: amzn.to/2gv5aUT

The lens has a proprietary coating from Zeiss designated T*, simply verbalized as "T-star". It's a fantastic coating that Zeiss still uses today on their autofocus lenses. Just google it and you will find everybody rants and raves about it, and for good reason. One thing worth noting in a review is the fact that the lens/camera uses a leaf shutter in the lens for exposure so flash can be synced at all speeds. I love Hasselblads and they are indeed comparable to leicas in terms of build quality. But overall, great review! Keep it up!

Thanks for the great info! I'm glad people are chiming in and pointing out things I may have missed since I can't go into depth on every camera. I hope to build a community so people can share their experiences with the cameras I get to play with for a few days. Thanks for watching!

Not complaining but trying to be helpful: You can measure the condition and how well carefully a hasselblad was used in a few ways. The easiest way when buying one is the square frame on the back of the body bordering the auxiliary shutter (barn door), hasselblad that are thrown about and used rough in a studio where they slap the backs on have the black paint worn away showing a silver square line. Long story short, placing the hasselblad back down on the table will eventually chip off the paint on the back. Also, the seals on the hasselblad backs have a shortish life and often need replacing. Putting the dark slide in corner first isn’t good for them but isn’t a big deal. Lastly, I see in a lot of places advice that you shouldn’t ever force the back on to the body. You should hold the latch open and then close them together.

Love this. I have a 501cm for 14yrs and its vintage 1982 body, and prefer it to any digital or 35mm I have. Google hasselblad flash shoe, it slides onto the camera on left side of body, to mount a flash. Rare but worth looking for one.. Also as someone said, be careful handling this baby...

It's great to see more vids of this camera, especially the 503. So thanks for putting out this vid. Now for some pointers as far as handling. You need to make sure when re-mounting film back, be sure to use lever and not simply snapping it back on. Over time, you will damage that attachment if done incorrectly. Seems like you're new to using the camera as I watched how you were handling the camera - I cringed for the folks that let you used it. There are many more other aspects to be careful about camera handling - lens cocking for mounting, etc.. that you didn't reference but I'm sure those that are serious about this camera will have learned from elsewhere on youtube.

Teng Vang thanks for the pointers! I only had the camera for about a week, but if I get my hands on one again I'll certainly be more careful. part of what I'm doing with these videos is showing the fun of exploring the different cameras that are out there. I'm the first to say I'm new to most of these cameras and if someone can learn from my mistakes I'm all for it. thanks for watching!

No worries. I enjoy your vids. My 503 and Leica MP are my two work horses. I consider one a work truck and the other a small sports car. Gotta love analog! Btw, I attach my pocket wizard via velcro right onto the lens hood of my 503 when using off camera flash. Your methods works too.

Because it is a square format, just like a Rolleiflex or Yashica twin lens, if you need to get your camera higher with the waist-level finder, just shoot it upside down or sideways.

Thanks! I can't see myself standing sideways to shoot forward, but I bet this is useful to a lot of people who prefer the WLF to a prism.

Which camera has best image quality RZ67 or Hasselblad 500cw
@HansRosemond
@HansRosemond 5 лет назад
For film it isnt as simple as "image quality," per se. Both systems have great lenses and both can use the same types of film. The Mamiya has a slight advantage in overall potential resolution because the image is larger, and the Hasselblad lenses are known for their quality. It's probably a wash. Both use the same film, so theres no advantage there one way or another.

@@HansRosemond The zeiss lenses were much more neutral than the japanese. Also I found Zeiss much better with shooting into the light. Hasselblads had some funny quirks especially mounting and unmounting lenses, also the backs needed regular service or frame spacing got interesting. I would take a 'blad everytime over any other MF system, but if you just intend to use a standard lens (and why wouldn't you:-)) a TLR Rolleiflex I think is nicer, unless you want to shoot different film at the same time. Then you need two or more Rolleiflex! Back in the day you might be requested to shoot B&W, colour neg and transparency, plus the ton of polaroids to check all was as it should be, so the interchangeable backs was necessary. Now for my own use I shoot the Rolleiflex by choice, despite a bundle of Pentax 67 gear. But thats another story.

Why not Hasselblad 203 FE? It's a focal plane shutter, but it has a self timer, and 1/2000 of a shutter speed.

Self timer, & faster shutter speed easy to live without.

One of the high points of shooting square format cameras is learning to see compositions "square." Square frames aren't too hard to find and it allows you to see in a new creative way and not waste any of the negative.

I confused the review of a 503 with a review of the V system itself, and you even didn't properly get it in the first place. If you like watching at the same level of the subject just buy a prism. It is modular dude

flip the camera over if you are short and look up.

man the Hasselblads are so svelte compared to the Japanese MF cameras. I love my RB but it's a heavy tank

If someone pronounces Zeiss in a way like this gentleman, I immediately have doubts about his elementary education. Sorry...
