One of the first film noirs I watched that wasn't The Maltese Falcon. So many great British Noirs between Carol Reed and Basil Dearden, the two directors I've seen films by. Reed's The Fallen Angel is another great one. Although not a Noir, I still think of The Browning Version as being part of this filmic landscape--a really intelligent, adult drama, as well as David Lean's The Passionate Friends. You expect movies about adultery to be kinda seedy or at least glum. Somehow Lean makes it into a fulfilling story.
