Breaking down some of my favorite plays from Justin Fields in the first half versus the Denver Broncos. Become a channel member: / @steelers_db Check out the Steelers gear at Homage: t.co/9a60Nchvnf
Great content as always DB. That 51 yrd pass on the run was incredible. Justin has many of the same strengths and weaknesses as Lamar. Watching him develop and grow within our teams framework will be exciting to watch. FYI, Noel put up another 135yds and a TD this week and looks like he's heading into day2 prospect zone. If we keep Justin I'm more in favor of tall, big wingspan receivers.
The last couple years and we aren’t the only team.. they need to be fined they are ruining the nfl and calling plays at pivotal times that change games for other teams also you can throw a flag on almost every play and they are choosing favorites and also swaying games
I think it’s important to point out w fields is a lot of these plays weren’t going to be made by QBs after the Big Ben era. Don’t want to speculate too much but Rudolph, Pickett, trubisky more than likely take a sack on that first play. It feels good to be able to watch a QB who can extend plays.
Nice breakdown as usual. The aggressiveness early on was really encouraging, especially the accuracy on the deep balls- it’s been like a half decade since we’ve seen that type of throwing talent. Looking forward to the second half breakdown, though if your reaction was anything like mine while watching the game it’s not gonna be pretty lol.
4:42 that play was worth the game to me! It was my favorite one. Congratulations to Mr Washington! I’ve been waiting for that one. My biggest crush of 23 draft
Alot things people aren't factoring in reviewing the two games so far is the defense we're going up against are very underrated. Atlanta is a surprise defense this season, and we saw Monday night they kept Philadelphia in check most of the game, and the Eagles are a team that if you have a weak front seven they can drop 30 on you easy, and control the clock we're actually expecting Justin Fields to play like a Pro bowl form Jalen Hurts, and he's doing that so far if you consider the bad officiating JF was cooking. The Broncos defense even better than Atlanta, and they don't get the credit Jonah Ellis from Utah was a guy in the draft I felt like was a really good fit as an OLB for the Steelers, and reminds me alot of Alex High-Smith, and he actually got drafted right around where Alex did third round I think for Denver, and he's going to be one of the better rookies this season plus they got Patrick Surtain ll a top 10 CB in the league, they have Riley Moss, and Denver defense is very solid, and the fact we did thay in Denver is even more impressive. I think the Steelers can improve the offense in a few areas starting with bringing back LaMichal Perine, or Daijun Edwards as a third runner, and trading CP if we can, because I feel like he was just an Arthur Smith guy like MyCole Pruitt, and Scotty Miller to help teach the offense, so they served there purpose but we can upgrade those three positions with Brandon Johnson, Rodney Williams, and LaMichal Perine. I understand though those guys are waiting in the wings and will eventually take those positions over they might bring Perine or Edwards back, but could also elevate Colletto there, and that would take some tread off Najee in short yardage situations Colletto, and Heyward is a load on the goal line.
As a Broncos Fan, I was really surprised by Fields' performance, he put together a really clean drive against us. I feel like the QB situation in Pittsburgh might not be crystal clear, based on what I saw from Russ. Good things can come for you guys if Fields continues to grow in the new situation and can show up and perform in the right moments.
@@Steelers_DB*Derek. So I'm curious where you put #14 in WR ranks ?? Based off the eye test and Pickens actual skill level, traits, and overall talent ??*
You can tell Arthur Smith is brining him along slowly, so by the time his confidence is high the real Fields is going to flash with his dual threat ability.
Thank you for the video! I had some words back and forth with Greenface34 on another Steelers video, and some other guy that were harping on Kenny Pickett and how Justin Fields is not an upgrade at the QB position. I disagreed, and pointed out the arm talent, mobility and running ability. As far as physical talent it’s not even a fair comparison between the two. I like what I have seen so far, because he played better in game two than he did in game one. They kept saying that he can’t throw for 200 yards, but as stated take away the penalties and the stats look great.
as a bears fan im disgusted in our organization we could of had harrison jr moore and fields i loved fields so much ive watched more steelers games than ever since hes joined eberflus is a moron and doesnt know what the hell he was doing w fields
So many people overlook the cumulative effects of playing at the altitude in Denver the drop-off in the performance of the offense in the 2nd half was likely an effect of it.
13:18 I was never really anti Fields besides thinking he would give Coach T a heart attack but he is growing on me as far as i am more willing to take some lumps with a grin wishing he becomes a true Steeler. Enjoyed the show
I must Admit JF2 has surprised me with his excellent QB Play. No Turnovers! Reading the Defense and completing passes over the middle of the Field, Throwing the deep ball with deadly pinpoint accuracy. Using his legs wisely. Executing the offense within the structure of the offense. He is shown tremendous improvement as he learning his 4th offensive scheme under his 4th Offensive Coordinator. JF2 orchestrated a 12-play drive that went 78 yards and took 7 minutes and 34 seconds off the clock that ended with a Darnell Washington TD pass. If you factor in the 51yd Catch that was negated by questionable penalty and the 6 Yd TD pass to Pickens that was also a questionable call. JF2 is 12 -14 158 yds 2td's 0 int which is a perfect passer rating of 158.3 And Steelers lead at Halftime 17-0. The Second half offensive execution and play calling would have been much different. At the moment, JF2 is growing and must continue to grow in this Arthurs Smith Offense. JF2 is 12 -14 158 yds 2td's 0 int which is a perfect passer rating of 158.3
Let's open up the play book!!!! Lets a tree route going!!! Stop doing the same BS plays y'all been doing the last 6 years. Run that 4-5 WR plays. Have Najee run some wheel routes!!!! Run some play action pass or play action run with JF.
If you think they are doing the exact same plays...your basing your opinion of results and not context. 1 play disproves the same offense...Washington was used on a goalline fade in the endzone... not once in 3 years did that happen with Canada. They have used play action a lot as well.
We need better play calling when we get to playing better teams. Atleast throw rb screens in the mix r something. Arthur literally ran into the blitz the whole 2nd half
Since Ben finished out after 2022 season, Tomlin is up to 6 QB's...three are gone. What Fields has accomplished, the 3 QB's from last yr would have done the same. Our current 3 QB'S are signed for only 1 yr ea... honestly, Kyle Allen is prob the best of the 3, but like Rudolph, he will be lucky to play until Tomlin's win stat is in jeopardy.
As always great breakdown DB he obviously leaving to much on the table! the first play you show should be an easy bang bang play to George that’s basic QB 101 soon as he recognized the blitz hit back foot and let go and George takes it to the house even him drifting out takes away the natural throwing lane It’s great he can run but as a coach you want him making basic throws like that?? He played good in first half and made some wow throws but clearly buy how they kind of shut it down tells what they think of him he isn’t a rookie QB so the room for growth window closing really hope I’m wrong
On the very first play you showed am I wrong to think Russ rips it to GP for a big chunk and maybe even a TD? don't get me wrong I think Fields made a nice play to escape and get the first down, but I think that's the difference between the two QB's and why we will see Russ play when he's 100%
as a. 49er fan, back in 2019 we ran our way to the sb with jimmy g, obv fields has much better tools than jimmy like his arm n scrambling, just keep runnin through teams with the "boring" offense but utilize fields ability to run n throw deep to keep defenses worried. Plus yall somehow make playoffs anyway.
I think we gotta stop blaming OCs as the offense only has slight changes while the gameplan failure has remained the same since the last years of Big Ben, someone else has their fingerprints on the offense 🕵️♂️ . But this has been the better than what we've seen for a while
It wasn't that the Steelers looked great playing against the Donkeys, they just make the Steelers look like a team going to the Superbowl lol. When the Steelers play a real team, the hype will die!
That has been illegal since 1980 I believe. This is Patty Cakes Football. You know the QB falls down instead of keep running, all kinds of neat stuff like that as Ballerina Dancers on the field after a making a first down. Patty Cakes Football, enjoy.
On the dime to GP if jones doesn’t hold I’m not so sure he gets that throw off again would like to see him make the play to Pat on his first read because it’s the routine throws that lead to good offense
Flashes early and fades fast. Typical Steelers! They need to play the second half like it's a new game. They seem to come out in the second half of games unchanged from the first half. If you had success in the first half you have to know the other team is making adjustments! This is nothing new! Also, 13 or 18 points isn't going to cut it when we get into the tough part of this schedule. We couldn't crack 20 last year, and despite a ton of changes, including QBs and offensive coordinator and O line, we still can't crack 20! What will it take?

Wilson hit GP on that hot route and it’s a TD. Fields runs for a 1st that only he can do… that’s the difference as Russ is know to throw a good deep ball as well. The OL had a clean pocket for the most part, not a slight on JF just pointing out the difference in QB IQ and playing styles.
