bengals drafted a injury proned o lineman in the past named anthony munoz that turned out to be one of the best.... every draft is a risk and he was the best o lineman left, im good with the pick

They said he never lost a 1v1 in practice for the BEST defense in the country. If hand placement and a little bit of footwork is all he needs, he will be a top 3 RT in the NFL in 2-3 years.

You sum him up perfectly. Not without some risk, but wouldn't be surprising if he ends up being the best player in the draft

Dude looks good. Even the criticized play where he side steps was a gain if 8 or so. Needs 3 or so for the first. He looks good.

Bengals need pass protection so bad. And regardless of his risky run blocking.. they got their guy to protect Joe Burrow. This is huge for them. If his strength is his size and pass blocking.. than the Bengals just banked on possibly the best tackle in the draft.

The Bengals wanted him all along. They knew he is raw and that is what they like to work with. He will be fine.

He pushes a DT 3 yards out of the play and that's not moving him as well as you might like? I don't know what you think dominating OL play looks like. Perhaps you think only pancakes count as impressive but Mims whooped dudes ass. You clearly don't know how to evaluate OT.

That was kind of what my comment about the Chip/LB block was meant to convey as well. It is a bit "try hard" to try to quibble when they were virtually all positve results? Will he get better with experience and NFL snaps - sure. If that is where he is starting from and develops as expected, he could be one for the ages. I have no particular prior knowledge of Mim's, but you gotta love the tape I have seen.

Your first example of a bad play was still a win for Mims. The linebacker only made the play from the ground Mims instantly put him on because the RB ran over him and he got him by the shoelaces.
@JH-jx1hs
@JH-jx1hs 10 дней назад
Exactly. Made this same comment as well. Not only did the RB run into the tackle, but Mim's appeared to have trouble getting off the chip (and the DE may have grabbed his jersey). He still got 3 yards downfield and got enough of the LB to turn a 3-5 yard gain into 10. A bit of a reach for something to criticize, but that is a good thing. Pobably means there must not be much to critique, although the limited snaps on tape may have something to do with that as well.

@chrisw647
@chrisw647 11 дней назад
Yeah, I'd say he simply lacks playing experience. "Raw" is a term more used for real "projects" & I don't think of Mims that way. The Bengals have had a yearly rotation at RT since Zac Taylor has been there, with this year being no exception with the 1 year addition of Trent Brown. That's perfect though. Hopefully they can get at least half a season out of Trent before Mims needs to play but the bar has been set so low at RT for the Bengals the last 5 years that Mims should have no problem stepping in & being an immediate upgrade, really. He could probably step in right away as a rookie & be better than any RT they've had under Zac even if Trent Brown wasn't there, but it's great that Brown IS there too & that they can probably put Mims in when he's ready & not just because they "need" to
@JosephGross17

I'm excited about this pick, with him and the two Brown's we are going to have some giants at o line. We need pass protection and that's what we need for Joey B! Eager to see what happens today. Hopefully we get a good D lineman and possibly corner or wr.
@carlbenson6412
@carlbenson6412 11 дней назад
Okay, I can dig it Jackson! Now they have 2 picks to get the best run stopping D-Lineman out there & at least 1 cornerback. These 1st 3 rounds will be significant players this season for the Bengals.

He's definitely gonna be setup to be the future RT, not LT. Trent Brown is only on a one year deal. Orlando has multiple years left on the deal. Maybe he becomes LT after Orlando leaves. Will be a swing tackle until something happens to the Browns.

He’s a Gigantic young man!! He literally makes Orlando Brown Jr look smaller somehow..now we got 3 6’8” 340 and up tackles..you can’t run through them and it’ll take time to try to get around them..protect the franchise player..Joey B should be pretty comfortable at this point..I wish we could have grabbed Cooper Beebe to take over LG..we gotta grab 1 early day 3 w Cappa getting older and the upgradable Volsom on the other side..shit, grab a guy who’s multiple that is a Center/guard player..

Great breakdown! Will say I feel like the pick was not necessarily a “current need” due to the Trent brown signing, gives him a year to develop that raw talent for the nfl. However, can frank pollack give him the tools he needs to be successful, I really hope so (bengals fan in me gets nervous when I see a high round tackle drafted especially with our track record)
@JH-jx1hs
@JH-jx1hs 10 дней назад
Ok. This is a bit nitpicky, but if the worst block you can find in his run game is one where (as 6'7" 340 lb RT) comes off a chip at the LOS (and looked to me that he was held onto by the DE) and stumbles a bit and still manages to stumble sideways enough to get to the second level LB 3 yards downfield and get enough of him for the run to get a 10 yard 1st down run - that is a win!!

I understand the pick. I'm going to be completely honest and say that I don't *love* it. I believe college experience and production is important with predicting success at the NFL level. It's just not there with Mims and I worry that he's too risky of a prospect for an organization who seemingly takes swings and misses at offensive line over and over again. That being said, he certainly has all the potential in the world to be a quality starter in the NFL. Hopefully this pick looks like a steal in a couple years.

You have no idea what you are talking about. The Bengals didn’t draft Mims to play left tackle. They already have a Pro Bowl left tackle. His name is Orlando Brown Jr. Heard of him? And Trent Brown will be starting at RT this year and trust me the Bengals feel real good about that. Trent Brown is an elite pass protector. Last year he graded at 85.6 for the Patriots. And also Mims is 6’8’’ not 6’7’’. He is 6’8’’ 340 has over 36 inch arms 11.5 inch hands and ran a 5.03 forty yard dash. He is a freak of nature. And the tape that he does have is elite. He only started 8 games but anyone who has watched those 8 games, like me, can clearly see the kid is special already has the technique down and has the length and power to make up for anything else that might be lacking right now. He has a Relative Athletic Score, RAS, of 9.48. A 10 is a perfect score. He has elite size which is something that you either have or you don’t, he has elite speed and explosion grades too. He only played 800 or so snaps in college but it was clear on the tape that he knows what the hell he is doing. No one gets around him period full stop. And he will only get better and better the more that he plays. Oh and he is only 21 years old and doesn’t turn 22 until til like November I think. So he is very very young. His ceiling is so god damned high you would need a telescope to see it.

I totally agree with you! I was high on him two weeks ago, and for some reason, had it in my brain that that would be the pick and it ended up being the pick. I just think it’s funny how this guy who created this video has never played a snap of football in his whole life but yet he is talking about the good and the bad of this offensive lineman lol I don’t know. I just can’t wrap my head around that one.

@michaelthomas4851
@michaelthomas4851 9 дней назад
@@zakarykeeling1497 the signing of Trent or Orlando is starting to be a waste then if your gonna move on from proven elite talent. Mims isn't bad by any means but he hasn't played much and even though he played in the SEC and for Georgia that doesn't make up for the lack of game experience. That alone makes him more a gamble than he already was. Again not a bad player but you could've went with someone else

He's not considered a risk because of technique. Interesting that you never actually elaborate on what is "raw" concerning his technique or what he should be doing differently. He's ONLY available at 18 because he has minimal tape to evaluate and has some injury history. A lot of people don't realize that tight rope surgery lead to hamstring issues when players come back too soon. See Cooper Kupp or Tua just to name the 2 that come to mind immediately. There are loads of examples of this. As far as technique is concerned though. No one is concerned. Is he perfect? No. Show me someone with this few snaps that is. Show me the player with this few snaps that can punk the OSU Defensive End though. That dude wrecked Alt, Fashanu and everyone else he played. Guess who made him look like a bum? Mims totally took his lunch money.

Insane take. We have one NFL caliber tackle on the roster in 2025 without this pick. This draft class is loaded with day two and day three interior offensive lineman. The Bengals screw up when they take tweeners and try and flop them around positions looking for their fit. Dax Hill Jackson Carman Dante Smith etc. This guy's built in a lab to play tackle And he already has better technique than Jonah Williams did.
@chrisw647
@chrisw647 11 дней назад
"Needs work" means he has lots of bad stuff on tape to correct, which Mims does NOT have. He has very good tape against very good competition. His issue is durability. The Bengals are gambling that his injuries are just bad luck, like they did with Anthony Munoz, who was taken much, much higher than Mims was. It's not like they blew a top 5 pick on an injury risk, they spent the 18th pick on a guy who would have not even been available at 18 if he hadn't been injured last year. Great pick, huge upside, easily worth the risk. Were there "safer" picks the Bengals could have made? Definitely. Doesn't mean taking a risk on a high upside guy is a bad pick, especially at 18.
@bd8037
@bd8037 11 дней назад
Fautanu is 24 years old and even his tape was not all that. His play style is wierd so he’s going to be a guard. YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT MIMS BEING A PROJECT BUT WANT A PLAYER WHO HAS NEVER PLAYED GUARD. Mims is not a project, he has just as good technique as Alt. Mims doesn’t have experience which is not the same as being Raw
