Quit crying about the contract, basketball, baseball, and hockey players all get guaranteed contracts, yeah it's a bad contract now, but there were 3 other teams that were going to give him a similar deal. Everyone thought he'd play at mvp type levels like he did before and he isn't, he looks like the worst qb in the league right now, maybe he is. The fu**ing contract, maybe it's just the hate he feels from Browns fans.

The contract prevents the Browns from "moving on" from Watson. The cap hit for cutting him would handicap the team for the next 7 years. The salary, the bulk of which is guaranteed prevents any team from kicking the tires on him in a potential trade. The contract is the worst contract in the history of the NFL. The Browns are damned for the next 6 years. This mistake is entirely on the front office. Its like buying a bag of shit from a bum for a years salary. It was also obvious at the time the deal was made, a deal for a player that had not played for 2 entire seasons, never mind the character issues. Its laughable.

There are quarterbacks who make bad reads, bad throws, or can’t remember the plays. But Watson looks like he can’t even remember where he is or what’s happening around him.

@@gunsarefun4618 Baker had high highs and low lows. Not nearly as low as DW4 but was too inconsistent. He wasn't ready to be a franchise QB. Now he is. He is a QB you want to root for but it wasn't going to work out in Cleveland. He was drafted into pure chaos, saw some success but needed to be humbled and grow.

To answer my own question, they’d have to get back under the cap by cuts/restructuring. Considering the size of this hypothetical cap hit, it’s unlikely they could release him. So they might bench him, but he’s going to remain on the team for the foreseeable future. At least that’s my uninformed best guess.

@@Otis151as a Browns fan, I know pretty well what Berry is doing, and the aspect people are missing. Berry has two years in a row predicted within reasonable margins the increase of the salary cap. He navigates it pretty well. He’s pushing money down the road so that it hits later, but given expect cap increases, it should be a less of a percentage against the cap than if they didn’t restructure. Of course, the original hope was to push it down the road, let it balloon, but extend Watson to spread it out again. So, clearly they aren’t gonna extend Watson, but the subsequent cap hits, even if Watson is “paid to stay home,” are hoped to be not as bad given cap increases. Therefore, they won’t cut Watson; I think they’ll eventually tell him just to stay home.

Watson ran a very easy offense to perfection in Houston. That coach destroyed that team. Watson ran a very basic offense at Clemson. The motions and misdirections created big passing windows.

In Watsons 2 best seasons he only beat 1 Top 13 Defense The Patriots twice Thats it!

His athleticism has 100% changed, I disagree. Watson's throws have no zip on them and his release is much longer than it used to be. He does not have an NFL arm anymore.
